  1. I'm not so sure it was about Fielder being hell bent on testing free agency as it is Scott Boras being hell bent on testing free agency. Prince has wanted to make it very clear in the past that Boras 'works for me'
  2. I don't really want to see Weeks resigned. I would prefer to see him traded so that we can clear room for Lawrie. I don't believe that Lawrie will stick at 2B. Imo he's a corner guy, hopefully 3B. I still think extending Weeks should a top priority for Melvin this offseason.
  3. Dawson posted an OBP of .340 or better five times in his 21-season career; it wasn't just playing too long. I can definitely get on board with the defense argument, but Rice was clearly the superior hitter. Rice's career park-adjusted OPS+ is 128, to Dawson's 119.
  4. The Walking Dead's producer has reportedly let go of season 1's entire writing staff Link
  5. And he's arguably the best defensive SS in the game no matter where he plays. I'd think that Jimmy Rollins in his prime would have been worth roughly $20M AAV, and I think Tulo will be as well. However, one potential problem with this contract is that he'll be getting paid $20M for his age 30-34 seasons. That could come back to haunt Colorado big-time. If the Rockies can put together some serious contending teams in the next 5 or so seasons, and find a way to sell high-ish on Tulo to a giant market team before he's 32 or so, I'd have to imagine that would basically be the best-case scenario with this deal.
  6. As long as the Royals wouldn't demand Jesus Montero, I could easily see Cashman going all in (as long as the Royals liked the offer) to add Greinke & Lee this offseason.
  7. On a 1-yr. deal that wouldn't be too expensive, the Cubs might catch lightning in a bottle with Pena. BABIP isn't everything, but his .222 from '10 suggests that he should be expected to produce closer to his '08 & '09 numbers next season. His out-of-strike-zone contact rate jumped way above his career norms last season, which might suggest he was chasing pitches & making a lot of outs that way. That kind of thing should be coachable, but you never know.
  8. Alomar gets downgraded for one bad non-performance related incident, but two of the biggest 'roiders in the game's history make your ballot?
  9. I don't think Braun would do that. The whole point of him doing it the first time was setting up financial stability, so now that he has that he has every reason to just hold out for that one last massive FA contract. Just my hunch, though.
  10. I'd offer Prince a 5 year/ 110 million deal with an option for a sixth year of $30 million that vests if he plays a significant portion of the games. I really want no part of paying a 32-yo Fielder $30M. I agree that kind of deal would be about as much money as he could get, though.
  11. In the case of Miller Lite they make a 9% abv "beer" then cut it about 50/50 with carbonated water. I'm actually kind of curious now to try that, pre-watering down.
  12. Here's the easy way to remember -- Lucas directed the awful ones, and A New Hope. Richard Marquand directed RoTJ. Lucas is responsible for every single line of cringe-worthy dialogue, though. He wrote (or co-wrote) all 6.

  14. Firefox 3.6.12 on a Mac. Hah, and now the homepage doesn't load for me either. I didn't clear my cache or history between my posts in this thread.
  15. It's working just fine for me
  16. I know you've liked him for some time, but he hasn't been much different so far in his career than Jeff Suppan at a similar age. For me, that's just not praiseworthy -- I'll agree to disagree on Garland; if my memory serves correctly, you seem to like groundball pitchers. I won't go into the Sheets comment beyond saying that I couldn't disagree with you more.
  17. Link Best known for directing my favorite movie, ever -- The Empire Strikes Back. Kershner was one of Lucas's professors at USC, and initially refused the invitation to direct ESB. Thank goodness he changed his mind. You'll be missed, Irvin. "I like to fill up the frame with the characters' faces. There's nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face." http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news_img/21918/Irvin_Kershner_21918.jpg http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news/21918/Empire_Strikes_Back_Director_Irvin_Kershner_Dies_87_1291039866.jpg
  18. From '05 to '07, he was a solid SP. Aside from that he's been nothing special or impressive.
  19. At this point if I'm the Yankees, I'd be a-ok with Jeter signing with Boston. The fans turning on Jeter would wash away any feelings of ill will towards the organization for not re-signing him, and the Yankees' biggest rival would sign an aging SS for a buttload of money that isn't anything much better than average at this point. I don't think BOS would be interested in spending that much money on him for those reasons, though. Jeter's going to continue to pout, the Yankees are going to let their (gigantic) offer of 3/$45M stand, Jeter's going to test FA & find the offers won't even come close to the Yankees'. Heck, at that point the Yankees could probably cut their $45M offer to ~$35-40M & still by far offer him the most money.
  20. Milwaukee's Best (& basically any macro-brew) is "beer" like foodservice Nacho Cheese is "cheese"
  21. This thread is awesome. R.I.P. to one of my all-time favorites. http://roflrazzi.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/celebrity-pictures-leslie-nielsen-ferrell-slapstick.jpg
  22. Probably due to my Packers hangover, but why would Vazquez care about the arbitration clause? Just to help make him more sign-able next offseason?
  23. Per MLBTradeRumors, the DBacks have acquired Duke for a PTBNL.
  24. The MLB Network is totally worth it imo. Great channel.
  25. He only needs to hit .260!
