  1. The BR article is pure speculation... based on speculation from sportswriters. I have to agree with Invader -- there just hasn't been anything substantive enough yet to believe that Prince is headed anywhere this season. That could certainly change, though. Also agree that Hudson + Beckham would be a sweet return.
  2. I thought the reaction of the catcher was the most interesting thing. Prince nodded at him after the first one. I thought the catcher may have said, "Hey don't sweat it we aren't throwing at you." Then he gets nailed in an obvious throw. The catcher put his arms out and looked at Venters in a "What the heck are you doing?" motion. Made me think he was out of the loop on the headhunting...must have come straight from Cox or he went solo. Good point, SoCal. I remember seeing both Prince nod & McCann throw his arms out to the side(s). That whole situation was just strange.
  3. Overall, the contact made against him, and I think he only struck out 3 batters, was pretty weak. Just fwiw, his line today, per the T-Rats' website: 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
  4. Except that the Brewers basically need to treat Parra like a newly-called up prospect, letting him succeed & fail, to find out if he can be a viable starter. There is absolutely nothing gained from sitting him down, and you lose out on any chance to see if the lefty with the 95mph heater can pan out for you. Taking him out of the rotation would be indefensibly bad, there is absolutely nothing this team is playing for besides player development at this point. With regards to Manny, the state this team is in is a bit of a luxury, since the Brewers can actually just let him keep starting & not get hung up on whether or not he got shelled his last time out.
  5. It'd be one thing if this was an isolated incident to this series, but when that punk Hanson drilled Braun on purpose a few months back, he hasn't been the same since. I think it's way too easy to just assume that was on purpose. It might have been, but there was really no history that would suggest Hanson would've done that intentionally. I really don't believe that was on purpose. When pitchers hit guys intentionally, it tends to be in the thigh or back, not the elbow.
  6. Imo Bush + Hart to the Pads makes a lot of sense. Not very familiar with SD's prospects, though.
  7. http://brewersfandemonium...Gamel-.html#reply-638804 Figured I'd post this so kow doesn't have to again
  8. The way I read it is that Macha's saying that if MLB won't do something about it, he will. I guess I can understand if others are skeptical that he'll actually do anything.
  9. Macha really comes off great in those quotes. At first I figured it would seem whiny, but he's spot-on. "I try to play the game the right way and hopefully appropriate action is taken and if not we’ll have to make an adjustment. “I try to treat the game with respect. If appropriate action is taken … then so be it. If appropriate action is not taken, then I’m probably handling the situation as a manager.” This in particular made me smile. I like what I'm hearing here.
  10. Braun since May 11th (beaned on the elbow by Tommy Hanson May 10th): .249/.285/.412/.697, 247 PA This doesn't include today's game. If you look at Braun's game logs on Baseball-reference, the only phrase that comes to mind for me after May 10th is "freefall". Part of the problem is certainly his discipline/patience -- just 12 walks since getting drilled, compared to 18 in just 146 PA before getting beaned. However, something else is wrong, and the correlation with the HBP is too convenient to just be a coincidence imo. I really think Braun is hiding or playing through an injury. This is easily the worst stretch of his career, and it's getting to the point where it's hard to just write off as a slump. For comparison's sake, Carlos Gomez's line on the season is .239/.293/.368/.662 (230 PA). I hope the Brewers are taking this seriously & doing everything they can to make sure Ryan isn't hurting himself in the future by playing through this now.
  11. Dykstra hasn't been good in the field, what makes you think he could handle 2B?
  12. The question I have with Gennett is whether or not he'll ever be thick/strong enough to hit with power at the higher levels. The guy is absolutely tiny. Is that (overall ceiling) why he's not in the top 10? Could also be that he's not anything special on defense.
  13. That is freaking cool, Sam
  14. The velocity display board isn't missing any bulbs, it's just that the upper left portion of the second digit is permanently lit up. As a result, all pitches that are 93 mph kind of look like 99 (even though the two nines are different, with the second one looking more like a lower case g). So actually Odorizzi was throwing mostly 93 with a few 94s while I was watching. If a pitch is actually thrown 99 (as a few Jeffress pitches were iirc) the two nines would look identical. Thanks, panama. Got my board defect mixed up. Appreciate the correction & your take.
  15. Kyle Blanks is another guy that would interest me a lot for Bush. There is no way the Padres would give up Blanks for Bush. That would be roughly comparable the Brewers giving up Cain to get a guy like Bush.
  16. Just wanted to check with you, uwis, but the times I've been to Time Warner Field, the velocity display board is missing some bulbs on the right-hand digit. Are you sure he was getting clocked at 99, and it wasn't just the defective light board? He was nowhere near the upper 90s when I saw him pitch earlier this season. I wouldn't question your firsthand reporting (thanks, btw) if not for the defective light board.
  17. Like throwing to the wrong base or missing the cutoff man. http://www.fangraphs.com/...he-fangraphs-uzr-primer/ As well, outfield arm run values are also computed separately from “regular” UZR. They are based on the speed and location of batted balls to the outfield and how often base runners advance extra bases (advances), don’t advance the extra base (holds), or get thrown out trying to advance (kills). Park factors are used in arm ratings. For example, because the left fielder plays so shallow in Fenway and balls tend to quickly ricochet off the Green Monster, it is difficult to advance an extra base on a hit to LF in Boston. In Colorado, because the OF is so expansive, base runners advance more easily than in an average park. The UZR “arm engine” adjusts for those things. It would seem that if throwing to the wrong base or missing a cutoff man has any tangible impact on baserunners advancing, UZR covers it.
  18. Judging from their most recent starts, looks like it'll be either Lasker (7.9) or Heckathorn (7.12) on Sunday. Odorizzi (7.11) starts tonight.
  19. True, but Gomez has had numerous misplays that aren't factored into his UZR Umm. What?
  20. I have no problem with you finding fault in WAR's treatment of defense, but nothing I've seen has McGehee as even an average fielder. His UZR/150 at 3B last season was -22.0, and this season so far is -13.3. Combine in the old 'eye test' where you can see in plain sight that he just doesn't cover much ground at all, and I think it's very safe to say he's a liability at 3B overall... but he's the classic guy that makes most plays he can get to, and fans tend to think those guys are good or solid defenders. Just like you saying McGehee doesn't have to be special (based on ZIPS, which would have had McGehee as garbage in '09) to be better than Gamel, the reverse is also true. Neither guy is a very special player at this point, but the reason I rally so hard in favor of Gamel is that he has room still to grow, whereas we're seeing 100% of Casey McGehee's upside. I think for him to get there he has some growing up to do. And I think for him to be better than McGehee this season, all it would've taken was some more forward-thinking roster management from Melvin & Macha.
  21. "Macha wasn't sure how much playing time Cain would get in center field with Carlos Gomez and Jim Edmonds already sharing time there, but he likes having the right-handed bat off the bench since everyone else on it is left-handed unless Gomez or Jonathan Lucroy aren't playing." Who could have predicted this?!?! Shocking! Maybe Macha can go manage a team in Schroeder's fantasy camp. He wouldn't have to deal with any zim-zammin' youngsters there.
  22. Wow! He should've landed ahead of Lamb just based on the fact that his picture isn't heinous-looking
  23. I really believe Mat will have a big second half & force himself back into the clubs' long-term plans, whether that's in Milwaukee or as part of a major trade.
  24. We should concentrate on keeping the team OPS as high as possible, while improving the defense and pitching. So, basically, we should try to make the team better. And not worse.
  25. I hope the move is Gomez to AAA. The comments Hart made earlier this season about feeling entitled & somewhat taking things for granted could really apply in Carlos's case. He's been a big-leaguer for a while now, and really hasn't earned it in any realistic way. And def. thank you trwi7 for the update
