  1. Yeah, the rain here doesn't want to watch baseball tonight. Everything is getting thoroughly saturated, and then some
  2. Link Am I crazy, or is this a ridiculous amount of injuries?
  3. I really like the Morris pick. Really kinda seems like the Brewers got good value there. Is there any glaring reason why he didn't go higher? 4th round for a guy that went 2d round out of H.S., and it doesn't sound like his bat has disappointed or anything at Auburn.
  4. Glad to see Rivas back to pitching so (relatively) soon
  5. That quote, no matter how many times you post it, doesn't say anything about his ability to play SS Yes, it does. Average 2Bman = inadequate SS. I'm really not sure why you're missing this.
  6. I like what I'm reading about Covey. A HS arm that has touched 96-97 with the heater & has a plus or plus-plus curve sounds fantastic to me. Hopefully Dylan can avoid the injury bug & head into 2011 with a clean slate.
  7. http://www.hawksbar.com/ This is the best place I knew of downtown Madison. Last WC, they hung the different nations' flags all over the bar -- it was sweet!
  8. I can't even bring myself to click that link. Why can't we get some good writing?
  9. You're nicer than me. *click* .... [dialtone] is what he would have heard from me. I'd figure if it's important to him, he'd call back.
  10. ha -- that's pretty awesome bcs
  11. His discipline is basically non-existent right now. It's really frustrating to see such a talented hitter go up there & flail around like Gomez. And his defense this season... OUCH. It's downright brutal. A friend of mine said tonight about Braun, "He's really only good at hitting, isn't he?"
  12. Hughes never realistically fell out of favor with the Yankees. He was always considered basically untouchable -- Cashman has loved Hughes from day 1, and iirc he was considered the best (or at worst one of the best) pitchers in MiLB before being called up. I think an offer for him would have had to have been pretty darn huge. I doubt the package for Sabathia would have gotten it done. I don't disagree that the Brewers had a chance to add a young arm instead of CC, though.
  13. It's just kind of disturbing to me that the Eckstein photo is from Maxim. Or maybe we should all just feel lucky that he has so much clothing on.
  14. I think it's happened twice... ? Not sure if that's accurate. I won't disagree, though, that he's (to borrow a term from Rock) "alligator-armed" it on those two (?) plays.
  15. TheCrew07's sig says it all. Macha needs to go, and not because of any results this season. A team like the Brewers is going to need a manager that is willing to play young players, and isn't going to play favorites.
  16. Not sure what to say about Gomez. He is what he is, a raw & unfinished product at the plate with stellar defense equalled by few active CFs. I'm certainly feeling good about getting his highest OPS output of his career, along with him hitting the ball harder. I freely admit this could just be "seems like" bias, but I swear Gomez has two levels of plate discipline. One is early in the count, where he freely whiffs at breaking pitches & fastballs alike, in or out of the zone. But I swear, Two is once he gets two strikes on him. He seems to really have solid discipline with two strikes. Tonight was another example where (iirc) he worked an 0-2 count full & just battled the whole way. I think we're really close, in terms of development, to seeing Carlos Gomez fully materialize. Keep in mind that by close, I mean relative to young player development... as in I doubt we see this progression until late this season or next sometime.
  17. Very good to see Parra turn in a strong performance tonight. Before he started to (assumedly) tire, he was flat-out overwhelming. I'm really looking forward to his next start.
  18. i just dont know why you wouldnt try and see what happens. i meant they bumped lawrie up and gennett is hitting better then lawrie did and gennett's defense is better then brett's. brett was also younger then scooter. The big difference, to me, is HR power. While Gennett has certainly been raking, he's just a tiny guy that can't project to hit for much more than decent to good gap power at any level. Lawrie, otoh, is a big strong build that both projects to, & has, hit for very real power. I'm all for Gennett getting the call to Brevard County, but there's really no reason to rush it imo. Gennett's line is looking pretty because he's hitting singles & doubles. Lawrie's lines contain a lot of 2B/3B/HR, which Gennett really doesn't come close to matching. As a tangent, my goodness, Lawrie is just a beast. He's got his OPS up now over .800 as a 20-yo in AA (iirc he's younger than most of the Timber Rattlers). To be blunt, I don't care where this kid winds up defensively (though I'd of course love it to be at 2B). His bat will likely play at any position.
  19. They're both tiny http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And to Marseco's credit, he hit one that looked like it got out off the top of the wall in RF over the left side of the Miller High Life sign that's visible in the first Isom photo. It was a very questionable call by the ump, and that was the controversial call of the night, if anyone recalls.
  20. Sorry there are so many pics. Believe it or not, this is actually a whittled-down group. I have some shots of the ballpark I can post later on (in addition to other shots).
  21. Wasn't sure if this should be in the 5/20 link report thread, so I started this one. Feel free to merge if appropriate. Sorry it took me so long to get these posted, but here are the threatened/promised pics from the Timber Rattlers' game back on May 20th (against the Peoria Chiefs -- CHC) Carlos Gomez http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4676136771_88f07a7195.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/4676281808_803d341731.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4676765514_e0d7d75f21.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4014/4676134415_54a25a4b28.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4020/4676146623_7dd40e11d5.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4676162345_8f369c28f6.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4676790870_94fb8d8839.jpg D'Vontrey Richardsonhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4676284546_21856d32b8.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1285/4675663475_edcff268c3.jpg Cutter Dykstrahttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4676289892_7292a23a87.jpg Scooter Gennetthttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/4675668761_30567d4236.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1285/4677767200_a21c5a7f14.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4676305386_214dd47b08.jpghttp://farm2.static.flickr.com/1272/4676775050_ce4b791483.jpg Chris Dennis http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/4676294628_7df13bec50.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/4675678939_d952ce95b4.jpg Khris Davishttp://farm2.static.flickr.com/1269/4676299872_de3f9565ba.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/4677769262_a8fda58231.jpg Jake Odorizzi http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4676307990_9438915c06.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4675689335_71e6d923c0.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/4675686881_31eedb6c7d.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4675691853_f8fc850186.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/4676318030_2796800fb8.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/4676320586_12d65b8769.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4676323034_486df3d2df.jpg Efrain Nieveshttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/4676151245_860c957ec1.jpg Cameron Garfieldhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/4676786408_bbc36a5582.jpg Chris Dennis & Scooter Gennett http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4019/4676767782_e8319dba32.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/4676144045_209c670aae.jpg Carlos Gomez & D'Vontrey Richardson http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4676153357_b61c0fd4b1.jpg Jeff Isomhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4676157871_d2a8194c97.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1286/4676781978_75953e0748.jpg Kenneth McNutt (Peoria SP) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4042/4675673791_27a56814d0.jpg McNutt looked pretty good, featuring a fastball that operated at 94 almost every single time thrown Peter Fatse http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4033/4676793136_16a383b3f1.jpg Fatse is called out for the third out of the 11th inning, trying to tag up on a shallow fly ball. 22. All he has really done better this year is hit the ball harder. Well, that's kind of the biggest thing a batter can do, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I know your point is that his plate discipline hasn't really gotten much better, but I just think it's important to keep in mind how young he is, & how rushed he was to MLB. I disagree with your point that he "needs to show improvement" -- I think he clearly has this season, but I will agree he needs to continue to show more. I also agree on needing to give up on the bunting for hits (you & I agree on him basically not bunting at all, though)
  23. He's 24, and was rushed to the bigs. I think it's a bit early, even after this season, to say we know anything definitively. I believe he'll be able to hit well enough to justify being an everyday player, given his defensive prowess. I would think that, if anything, the fact that he's actually progressed at the plate this season would be considered a good sign.
  24. Link The injuries to big-name players leading up to this World Cup have been out of control. So fluky.
