  1. What a bomb from Arcia! One question I have, for anyone who feels like responding -- is his swing on that HR (in post #198) a bit long, or am I reading too much into how he moves his hands prior to contact? The (potential) concern I have is him developing a bad habit feasting on weaker pitching competition.
  2. Molina isn't a once in a lifetime talent defensively. Pudge Rodriguez was at least as good, & likely better (imo he was much quicker & more athletic).
  3. The Aoki-Smith deal is a good example of how many would like to see the Brewers focus on acquiring talent.
  4. Definitely. Hairston's reaction makes me chuckle, too.
  5. Found it today! This ball & flightpath is the way I'll remember Weeks when he connected (& the kid's facial expression in the crowd at 0:13-0:14 pretty much summed up my reaction at the time) -- http://m.mlb.com/video/v16726143/cinmil-weeks-crushes-a-threerun-goahead-shot/?c_id=mlb And here's the much-referenced shot off the NYCE Club in LF (I'd forgotten it was a back-to-back job with Prince!): http://m.mlb.com/video/v19734007/must-c-crushed-fielder-weeks-hit-backtoback-shots/?c_id=mlb
  6. I think that if the Brewers won 3 titles in 5 years, & the sports news/industry talk was how we weren't a dynasty, this board would be going nuts about the east-coast, ESPN, & anti-small-market biases.
  7. We added a guy (under contract for two more seasons) with a career line v. RHP of .293/.349/.510/.860 for one season of Marco Estrada. This might not be a franchise-altering deal, but it's still one helluva trade. I understand some folks not being thrilled about Lind, but he's been very good at the plate the last two seasons. What I usually look at when considering how a player should be expected to produce is career numbers, & the most recent two or three seasons. Even if you include his bad 2012 campaign, Lind's composite slash line the past three seasons is .287/.351/.467/.818. It's very reasonable to expect .800-.850 OPS performance -- with an upside around .900 -- as long as he's properly utilized. And again, this comes in return for one season of Estrada. Hard to view this as anything other than a very good trade.
  8. Seems like a AAA roster filler move. Can't imagine it's anything more than that.
  9. Nice! The one I'll always remember is the laser-beam HR he hit off the green wall behind the OF wall in left-center (basically the same general area where the HR in this video wound up). It was hit so hard that the ball bounced almost halfway back to the infield. I'll look for it this weekend, but if anyone can find & post that clip, it'd be appreciated! Seemed like the ball didn't get much higher than 50' or so.
  10. Hear, hear! Good luck, Rickie. Definitely one of my favorite Brewers.
  11. The Cubs have the resources to sign Lester this offseason & probably also Price the next offseason. Think about that for a second.
  12. Those defensive gems from Arcia are pretty much the definition of what it means to have range at SS. Awesome stuff.
  13. A dedicated internet line, if you can afford it, is always ideal imo. I think your IT guys are on the right track. Yes the cost can be high; however we use VOIP & in the year+ I've been with my company (a technology firm), the phones have never been down. I don't know if we ourselves have a dedicated internet pipe, but I know it's what we'd likely recommend to a customer in your scenario. In addition, the sound/voice quality we have is really, really good. Basically, if you trust your IT department, & they're making the recommendation, go with it. IT can be expensive, but if it is there's often a very good reason.
  14. Whoa, whoa, whoa -- what an honor! #BestFansInBaseball
  15. Well I responded anecdotally about the post reilly made. I think you mistook my post for one by Reilly.
  16. I've heard Lind is a terrible defender at 1B. I know fielding isn't the top priority for 1B, but having lived through Fielder and Francisco at the position in recent years, I just hate having more of the same. Still, I haven't seen the guy (that I recall) in the field. So I'm just going by what I have read. Seeing his name again prompted me to look up how he finished the year -- .220/.291/.456/.747. After a first-half .828 OPS, he crashed & burned to the tune of .561 in the second half. So for the year in total, he was the same guy that made us Brewers fans want to punch walls.
  17. If Ramirez is a Brewer in 2015, I hope he's used primarily at 1B to help keep him healthy & rested. Even if they retain him, I think the best bet is to find a new third baseman -- I agree with you 100% that expecting or hoping his body holds up to the grind at 37 isn't wise.
  18. Scoring & driving in runs depends far too much on your teammates to responsibly be touted as an individual stat. If you focus on individual hitting performance, combined with defense (where Headley is much better than Ramirez) & age, Headley is a notably better shot at getting good production going forward. That's not spin, that's just the honest truth.
  19. Amazing how Brewer fans forget that Betancourt hit .267 from June 1st on with 10 HR and 50 RBI and a slugging percentage of .409 and the fact that he had 5 RBI in the NLCS vs. the Cardinals or that he led the league with 10 sacrifice flies that year. While it's fine to point out his shortcomings, I think a little balance is in order. It's not really amazing that Brewers fans don't celebrate a .690 OPS with a .280 OBP (what he posted from June - end of the regular season) with awful defense. He definitely had a good postseason offensively, but was also a defensive liability on several crucial plays. Basically, he was Yuni B before, during, & after the 2011 season.
  20. 1) Kind of. I think of a crossroads as where 2 roads meet so you have 4 directions to go. One being backwards. He is probably thinking of a fork in the road. Not a heck of a lot of difference. 2) My takeaway from that questionnaire is all they really care about is selling tickets. "When you come to a fork in the road, take it"
  21. His composite slash line for the past 4 seasons is .267/.357/.423/.780, & he's a good defender. Add in the fact that his home park was basically the most extreme pitcher's park in baseball -- his career road line is .285/.359/.440/.799. He's a good player at a premium position, & I would love to see him added instead of retaining Ramirez.
  22. Moreso because of his consistently inept in-game strategy. That was what accounted for awkward postgame pressers -- Ned didn't take criticism well, & his often-bungled strategy invited it. I agree that he's a good manager with young players, & I'm happy to see this successful postseason run.
  23. 1) Isn't that kind of the definition of a crossroads? 2) It's concerning to me, & makes me worry about a lack of leadership, that they're polling fans to determine the direction the franchise might take. Bascially confirms 100% that Attanasio doesn't want to make major changes for fear of pain in ticket revenues.
