  1. I think most veteran managers are going to see this the way Bobby Cox does: It's perfectly fine with me if the 'old baseball buddies' crowd doesn't want any part of the Brewers. Imo the sooner we rid the Brewers of 'teh old baseball truthiness', the better. There will be, what, 5 or 6 MLB managerial jobs on the market this offseason? I'm sure the Brewers won't have any trouble lining up the candidates. "Nothing at all we do is rash. It's all reasoned and thoughtful," Attanasio said. Why did you find that so funny, jeffyscott? Do you honestly think that Attanasio made the decision lightly? Sure, it was an unprecedented decision, but that doesn't mean it was necessarily made in haste. I think the thought has been on Mark A's mind for quite some time now, and seeing old mistakes rehashed again & again finally broke the camel's back. At least, that's my impression.

  3. Considering position and defensive ability, Braun has easily had the more valuable year overall but I wouldn't have guessed a month ago that Prince had any chance to catch Braun, offensively. I certainly did think Prince would 'catch' Braun once upon a time earlier in the summer, but to be honest the extreme late-ness of his power surge had me resigned that it just might not happen this season. I knew (strongly thought) that Prince had a power surge left in him... just wish it could've come a couple weeks ago http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Those that count BA as 'terrible' just simply haven't listened to enough of the other guys around the league. Imho he's easily in the top quarter of p-b-p guys in MLB.
  5. Congratulations, Brian! Definitely a well-deserved opportunity.
  6. Nice post BCIn04. My brain hasn't exploded yet. So that's good.
  7. I don't think the Brewers want Prince around, so it's win-win. That's just a moronic thing for a wannabe beat writer to say. Witrado gets worse every time he opens his mouth.
  8. I should've said 'Estradesque' http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. That's hardly "accurate". Last 7 days: .429/.556/.714/1.270 September: .303/.439/.455/.894
  10. Hart doesn't hit well enough to be a 1B. I don't think his OPS would even make league average. That's the concern for me. I have no problems with his defense in RF, and think he's better than many fans are giving him credit for. He's not top-tier defensively, but he's certainly fine at RF. It's only in the last 2 weeks where he hasn't been able to do squat. Two week, four weeks, potato potahto... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Last 28 days for Hart: .202/.242/.344/.587 That's Counsell-esque
  11. Whenever the team needs him most, he whimpers out with an "injury". Typical Ben Sheets. This is crazy. The team has needed him all season long, and he's been right there. Stupid faker Sheets! You didn't even wanna be out there against the Cubs! How can anyone call Ben Sheets weak or a wuss after this revelation? The man pitched a complete game shutout a few weeks ago with an ailing elbow! He's lost little to none of his effectiveness. Thank you. Like Ennder said -- does it suck? Of course. But let's stop with the 'oh, what a baby' stuff. Yost abused the crap out of Sheets all year long. Always great when your manager publicly declares that he doesn't worry about pitch counts until they get up into the 120 range.
  12. I threw my tv remote at the wall as hard as I could after Bush gave up a grand slam to Jim Edmonds back in July. The remote did not survive. Are you right-handed? Have you handled a relief workload before? If so, Gord Ash would like to speak with you. He's heard good things about your velocity. That's not like me, and I don't want it to be like me. Obviously the Brewers aren't responsible for any underlying temper problems I discovered I apparently have, but getting wrapped up in these guys obviously isn't helping. Following this team is not reality and I shouldn't be letting it bother me this much. I'll echo blingster -- I'll look forward to catching your takes whenever you feel like dropping by to post. It's good to see that you can take a step back & kinda re-evaluate. I still have hope that the Brewers will reward your/our patience. I know I've stopped checking out Brewerfan as much this season. It's led to much more enjoyable games in general. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Good grief I just remembered... anyone else notice that the first LH pinch hitter off the bench last night was Mike Lamb... NOT Tony Gwynn Jr.? Yeah -- nice... er, finally!
  14. Why Hart at leadoff? Our worst on-base regular getting the highest # of PA? I genuinely want to hear your reasoning here Endder.
  15. It was an agreement we made so that I can concentrate on my male modeling career. I'd like to answer your question with another question -- how many Abodidgonals do you see modeling? Nice job, jamie. Very well-done.
  16. My dream would be to see Durham get some time at 3B. Yes, I know he's never played there, but much like sticking Braun in LF plays to his skillset, at this point I think 3B plays to Durham's. Not sure how I'd structure the lineup, but make 2B a mix of Durham, Weeks, & Counsell... 3B a mix of Durham, Counsell, Lamb, & Hall (Durham is acutally a solid choice to face LHP, let's not forget). For a fabricated lineup, I'd try sticking Durham atop the thing & keeping Hart further down: Durham/Weeks Hardy Fielder Braun Cameron Lamb/Hall/Counsell Hart Kendall P Fwiw, I wouldn't mind seeing Kendall back at the #9 slot either.
  17. That was said in reference to Cam's recent struggles but earlier you said this in defense of Weeks, seems like you buttering both sides of the bread. I responded to a comment on Rickie, and you're right -- I pointed out his recent success. I only did that since it's a recent commonly-used split (Sept.). I was not making a comment on whether or not Rickie was 'finished' or 'golden', only that batting leadoff has not appeared to have affected him recently. JohnBriggs's point that, "Cameron's horrid September should end any talk of bringing him back next season at $10 million. The guy looks done to me.", is not the same as saying, 'No, I don't think batting leadoff gets to Weeks's head -- in fact, recently he's been great there'.
  18. On other note, is Shouse are only lefthanded pitcher in the pen that was available last night?? I don't know why Sveum let Shouse pitch to Blanco unless that was it for our lefthanded pitchers and a Shouse/Blanco matchup was better than a righty RP/LH pinch hitter. After a RP is announced, he must face one batter before another P can relieve him. Piniella drew out Shouse with Ward in the on-deck circle, but after Shouse was officially announced, Lou went to Blanco. I think overall at this point in time Durham and Weeks are a wash. I would love to have both in the lineup at this point in time but that doesn't appear to be an option. Yeah -- I wish Durham could get in at 3B sometimes, and I agree that Weeks would have been nice to see v. the lefty, but Durham actually has been better v. LHP for his career. This year is a bit of a fluke in terms of his splits.
  19. My thoughts exactly upon reflecting on the lineup a bit into the game, Diskono. I really like what Sveum tried last night, even though I'm sure it was more 'common sense' than 'sabermetrician'. In general, statistical analysis is utilized in order to discern the most favorable and/or likely scenarios, right? Seems like common sense matches up a bit with that. I don't know if I'd like to continue to see Cam lead off or not, but heck... try anything at this point.
  20. Brewers are once again USA Today's sports section cover story: "Sveum has two weeks to salvage Brewers' season"
  21. Cameron's horrid September should end any talk of bringing him back next season at $10 million. The guy looks done to me. Oh yeah man. He's toast. #7 MLB CF OPS (with at least 450 PA). Clearly the game has passed him by. 51 randomly-selected PAs tell us all we need to know. Yep, it's easy to see a flubbed throw, not so easy to see a hit and think if Weeks was out there maybe he gets to that ball. This is the same sort of thing that leads to underrating Cameron, he often makes an easy play where someone else would make a diving, highlight worthy, catch. Good points jeffy. Like I mentioned, I think a perfect example of what you're talking about was the Dempster bloop into shallow RF last night. Weeks has a very legit shot to make that play, while Durham couldn't get within close enough to dive.
  22. Durham career 277/352/436/788 Weeks career 245/352/403/755 Much of the difference in SLG is in singles there, too. Even just in '08 Rickie has really smacked some balls, just right at fielders. I have no idea if that's real, or if it just seems he's lined out sharply more than others. I think Weeks had a shot at catching that 'single' by Dempster tonight. His range, not hands, is what's better than Durham, and at 2B Durham's playing towards a weakness (covering ground). But can't argue about Durham playing tonight -- did well.
  23. Gord Ash says "There was always a chance that he would pitch before the end of the season, but we weren't going to tell you guys that because we didn't want to be on the 'Gallardo watch.' Gord Ash for President. This seems to mean we have Gallardo kinda coming out of spring training. Time against Cincy will certainly get him tough hitters, so let's see what he can do. Did we just maybe luck into a relief ace?
  24. The Cubs scored two lucky runs tonight in the 3rd & our offense (esp. Prince) started to make me feel confident again. What was that thread this preseason about the 'Other 42' games? Meaning games that could go either way on a few twists of fate. I can't get upset tonight about the loss like I could in some games recently. At least this one came down to the end, and if one or two plays in the game went differently, the Brewers would have nabbed the win. Very much looking forward to the next two games, which is not how I felt heading into tonight's game. Please truly be back, Prince. Give us 10 games of your insane power potential & we could make the playoffs.
  25. batting leadoff has gotten to his head to the tune of a .430+ OBP so far in September http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm all for trying Ray out at 3B to split time with Bill & backup 2B as well.
