  1. The entire fight is up now on Brewers.com... Good for them? Seems like that'd be the one site that wouldn't want to propagate this. Strange.
  2. Let's please not get this thread locked. Though at this point it might be for the best.
  3. Between the bottom of the 6th & top of the 7th
  4. Who hasn't been on a team and gotten into it with someone? Me. I never decided that my own personal rage was worth risking a serious injury to a teammate. But I'm probably not enough of a man for you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I don't think comparing this to beating your wife is relevant or respectful to the millions of women who have suffered from these kinds of abuses. I didn't compare the two. I compared your attitude that some aren't just 'man enough' to understand why violence is ok or cool.
  5. Get over it and stop acting like men being men is a big deal. This is condescention that is unnecessary. There was a time when beating your wife was par for the course.
  6. Agreed. He's not going to say anything and he shouldn't. Do you expect him to call out one of his players? It will be discussed privately and handled internally. Yeah, there's a lot here about Yost -- I think he handled the media very unprofessionally by acting like they were jerks for asking. If it happened in the clubhouse, fine. But it happened in plain sight. Sorry, not saying anythign about Yost & how he's handled the players/altercation, just that McCalvy has to put up with far more than his share of crap.
  7. The part that bothers me is how seriously Manny's pitching well-being was put into jeopardy in a selfish & irresponsible show of violence. That shove to the bench was out of nowhere as far as Manny looked to know, and it just as easily could have ended with an ankle or leg injury to boot.
  8. Cameron was brought in because he's a good CF (same with Kendall at C), not for some 'veteran grittiness' factor. We already have enough in Counsell! If Gamel can hit 300/380 OB in the majors, then that's where he should be IMO. That's setting the bar incredibly high for a young batter.
  9. Like his 0-3 tonight and 2 SO's or his watching a pitch yesterday with 2nd and 3rd? Yes, that's exactly the kind of lack of objectivity I was talking about.
  10. Those little lizards are like the sparrows of AZ -- they're everywhere!
  11. Might as well start a separate thread for this one. For those that didn't see, Fielder shoved Manny Parra back into the bench in the dugout tonight before the top of the 7th inning, came at him, slapped Manny in the face, and had to literally be pulled away and held down to the ground by appx. 4 men to be restrained from going back after Parra. Yikes.
  12. The pitching situation should not be solved by trading Fielder It'd be hard to see him go, that's for sure. I think he's our best & most talented hitter by a relatively wide gulf. They can resolve the pitching situation this way: 1. Sign a free agent like Derek Lowe. Better yet, steal Ryan Dempster away from Cubs. If the plan is to throw money at Derek Lowe or Ryan Dempster, I'd rather the Brewers just re-sign Sheets.
  13. 21. Yost 22. Hall 23. McClung 24. Mota 25. Anheuser-Busch (no, not Dave)
  14. Thanks for linking that, JET. In all honesty, it doesn't surprise me that Kendall rates out as the best. He's been great so far, and if he isn't the best, he's close.
  15. If Sheets would only get that range, he'd already have been re-signed. You're lowballing him, to be sure. Jeff Suppan is slated to make $12M next season, do you legitimately think that Sheets will only get $3M more on the open market?
  16. So as bad as they've been, it can't get worse (literally, the statistics these past few weeks are about as close to .000 as you can get). If it does get better, which it should, they should be able to put together another string of wins together given the upcoming schedule. Yeah, this is incredibly encouraging. The Brewers have had a bunch of good fortune in winning games with a run differential not too far from 0. I feel there's been quite a bit of bad fortune (for the team in general) in seeing Weeks's prolonged poor start to the season, Hart's long slump, Braun still not showing much discipline, etc. So hopefully the individual performances can rise up a bit more & help the run-scoring.
  17. There is absolutely no way Sheets gets $5M less in AAV, unless Sabathia gets around $30M & signs after Sheets -- he'd set the market value higher for Sheets if he got that much.
  18. My vent: People venting on Weeks when he's finally been productive, completely refusing to be objective. Picking one, two, or three plays at most that leads us to the definitive, 'Weeks has to go!'
  19. Jim Powell > awesome Permanently benching Weeks because he didn't turn a double-play and got doubled off first base inexcusably is not going to make the Brewers a better team, but pretending it would gives frustrated fans and media types a nice punching bag to hammer... It is always easy to pick a target and rip away, but the correct analysis of the Cubs' series is that Chicago just played great baseball and was the better team. Turning Ray Durham into an everyday player right now would not change that. Thank you, Jim. And thank you, GYPE, for sharing that. Eloquent, well-informed, & totally blunt.
  20. In no particular order (except the first one): Fielder Weeks Sheets Branyan (could prove to be an extremely valuable placeholder on a very competitive team... I'd love to see him back in '09) Gallardo
  21. By simply watching Weeks play this past month, and impartial observer would have a difficult time saying he was above average in any way. Right, but when compared to his peers at 2B, he has been above-average for a month+ Just for the sake of argument, even if we did agree that he was playing average for 2nd this last month, he still is well below average for a leadoff hitter and that is also unacceptable. For my quick-&-dirty guess, he's probably been about average amongst lead-off men for July ---> early Aug. You certainly bring objectivity to the discussion, but your expectations of what is "acceptable" & "unacceptable" are too extreme for my tastes. You know, I thought about that as the play happened and it was not that easy of a play (if we are thinking of the same one). The ball was hit hard and took an awkward bounce at the end. This happens in baseball, and Weeks gets absolutely raked over the coals when it happens to him. It was a routine play relative to MLB difficulty, and Durham positively should have made it if he's held to the standard that Weeks is. Weeks has the athletic ability to be a gold glove 2nd baseman, its the lack of fundamentals that keep getting in the way. I can't disagree with this at all.
  22. Yeah, Glaus has been very good for them, and really isn't as injury-prone as some label him -- that's a serious power bat to pair with Pujols. With Ankiel, Glaus, Pujols, and Rasmus on the way (down season/power outage in Triple-A so far is a bit puzzling, but his BB rate is still solid), the middle of St. Louis's lineup could be very productive for the next 3-5 seasons
  23. Money and Iorg both seem convinced he can stick at third... while some of that might be organizational smoke blowing, I don't think they'd say it if they didn't believe it. Clearly the biggest spot of need for the Brewers related to Gamel is 3B. And while I agree that it's nice to hear those things, this is the organization that stated Ryan Braun would stick at 3B. I have my doubts, but since I haven't ever seen Gamel play, I obviously defer to those who have (& know a helluva lot more than me).
  24. Random Shakespearian interjection: "She would have me as a beast: not that, I being a beast, she would have me; but that she, being a very beastly creature, lays claim to me." -- The Comedy of Errors (3.2.86-88; Dromio of Syracuse)
