  1. I'd venture to guess that about 80% of those people weren't being completely honest, for one reason or another. Why? What good would come of lying? Sheethead is right, "Everybody has a team" Yes, but not the time to follow one close enough to say, 'I have time to follow my team!' Umps are very busy, and even with all the modern technological perks, have very little time to do much more than what jhart mentions. They have such a grueling schedule during the regular season... now come the offseason, I'm sure there's more time to stay updated.
  2. Yeah, I really was shocked to see that the Yanks had made this move. Desparation is a stinky cologne.
  3. Sweet. Also, sweet new avatar, DJ!
  4. Whoa, sorry.. I was TOTALLY kidding. I thought it was blatant/stupid enough I didn't need blue font. You know I loathe Ned! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "I'm the manager. I'm very smart" -- is a vintage Yostian quote. Someone even had/has it as a sig here. Between that & the 'dugout couch' reference, I thought it was clear enough that blue font would have been redundant. I just hope DougJones picked up on my poor attempt at 'humor'
  5. Kat, was this meeting due to your blog(ging)? Pretty damn cool; glad you enjoyed it!
  6. I think she meant, "Sexon-iest City"
  7. Even so, an umpire's schedule is so grueling that it's not about desire to follow a team as much as it is actual time to do so. Sure, you can check box scores a few nights, but I certainly have encountered the 'I don't even have time to follow the/my team' from people that work in baseball.
  8. Yeah, I could see Eric, Hall, Cam, CC, Rivera, & Braun for certain. Strange that this is something that vomit-rag TMZ would go after.
  9. Hey -- he just calls 'em like he sees 'em. *pukes* Wow, that Witrado draft pick question has me dumbfounded. TH is uptight and unprofessional, but Witrado makes him look like a Pulitzer winner. Ladies & gentlemen, your Brewers beat-writing duo -- where "Uptight & Unprofessional" is the best option!
  10. Good for Bruce. That kind of behavior is completely disgusting, and wholly unwelcome. Unless you're at Wrigley.
  11. Not in the vent thread we can't. Take rational brain functions elsewhere! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. It's not that big of a stretch to consider his lack of success this year as a statistical anomoly and even though his numbers don't look good, he still has 8 HR and 26 RBI in 213 AB's compared to Counsell's 1 HR and 11 RBI in 176 ABs Are you actually crediting 'getting runners on base in front of them' as a skill? Besides, using counting stats from that small a sample tells next to nothing. It's sad that there's any debate at all on this... as much as I dislike Hall (esp. v. RHP), he' just the clear better choice at 3B... and for pete's sake, especially if Ned insists that 'THE 3B MUST BAT 6TH!'
  13. a vent thread for a team 18 games over .500, hasnt been in the playoffs since 1982, seems somewhat ridiculous complaining about something and everything just for the sake of it Pretty amazing that, in one day, it got up to 89 pages, huh?
  14. Haudricort vs TLB in a grudge match. Somebody get this done. In the red coohhhnahhh... weighing in at 'Embarassingly Irrelevant to his Job Duties', is Tooommmm 'The PrINCE of DAHHHkness'... HAUD-RI-CORRRRR! ... Seriously, get me in the 'ring' with this guy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And no, I'm not Attikel. Sounds like I should subscribe to his newsletter though. Haudricourt is a jag & a hack at this point. He's been brittle & irritated for seasons now, so it's just finally coming to a head that the majority (or at least a large chunk) of his potential readership notices that they can get better info elsewhere and/or on their own.
  15. Count me in the camp that's really excited at the prospect of YoGa being in the bullpen for the potential postseason. Now, if there's *any* risk at all for him, I'd be firmly 100% against him coming back.
  16. He followed the bad Brewers for so long and hung out with the no cheering in the press box writers that his fandom of the Brewers was pretty much stripped away. Fwiw, press boxes tend to have posted "No cheering" signs... the equivalent to "No pepper games", I guess. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. I laughed pretty hard last night on Prince's 'glance' -- I definitely took it to mean, 'Aw, he did NOT just throw me that pitch, did he?' Anyone that's watched Prince over his career knows that when he connects with that chest-high FB, it goes a looooong way. I think Rock may have had a point last night too when he guessed that maybe Prince had called in the dugout that he was going to mash one out there.
  18. I find it hard to believe he can't make his point without insulting the initial poster. Haudricourt is a joke. That the Journal-Sentinel allows this sort of conduct out of their writers is laughable. Why can't they hold their Brewers coverage to the higher standard this team deserves? Haudricourt appears to be a troll that would quickly get banned from BF.net. Gee, I wonder why we have crappy Brewers coverage? Does anyone else think that with the numbers we have here at BF.net, we could really make a loud/influential statement to JS management? IIRC the Sports editor is regarded as a tool, so perhaps we'd have to climb higher up the totem pole. I wholeheartedly agree with GYPE... this team & its fans deserve far better coverage than the chum with which we're stuck.
  19. Happy for Laynce to get another shot at the show. He's a solid defender in the OF, iirc, so that could prove useful come September. I'm really concerned about Braun's status, even though this is just most likely a move to make the best use of the remaining time he is out. Also, I'd like to preemptively vent how freaking stupid batting Nix 3rd is. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  20. Whatever TWR's post was here... pretty sure I'm just glad it was hidden. This Counsell situation is driving me insane. Can Melvin just call Yost already and tell him to stop acting like an idiot? It's embarrassing. Yeah... losing faith in Melvin right along with ya Russ. Really has me concerned. My only vent is that I will forever regret missing out on getting back in on the Tao-ism Counsell-ism A-Branyan-ism discussion before the 3B Options thread got locked. Many tears in my eyes, though, so thanks all. Counsell doesn't strike out! OMG!
  21. If anybody can name any specific game that Counsell has costed us in the last 2 weeks, please let me know TWR, I just can't honestly believe that you actually haven't paid attention at all over the course of the past few seasons when people discuss player value/impact... so I'll just assume you're baiting here. It has nothing to do with cherry-picking specific games, but if that's the way you want it, then yes. Counsell's marginal edge on defense doesn't even begin to come close to address the gigantic gap between his offensive 'production' and the other two actual bats we have at the position. I'll just post it again since it appears all you did was click on the most recent page & make your post -- Craig Counsell Last 7 days: .118/.211/.176/.387 Last 14 days: .167/.219/.200/.419 Last 28 days: .143/.211/.171/.382 Heck, here's the link to his splits, so no one ever again has to hear you claim you just weren't familiar: Craig Counsell B-R.com 2008 splits page And if you can point to one specific game that Counsell single-handedly 'winned' us, by all means...
  22. Can I still call you "Two Brewers" in my head, even though I now know the horrible truth?
  23. It starts. The 'it doesn't start' argument is just incorrect assumption, but MLB sure as heck doesn't make it easy for fans to obtain that info. The way you found it, yoyo (sort of roundabout in a general/non-specific article), is the way I've seen it most. We know for certain that September callups burn service days... what is needed is some form of 'official rules' type of article or link. I don't know why MLB isn't more fan-friendly when it comes to access to transactions rules. In general they're tough to locate.
  24. I guess we'll find out if 'Sconnie boy Eric Hinske, who hasn't played the spot since May 8th, can handle 3B defensively on a regular basis. This is a huge loss for Tampa, as others have said. The thing to bear in mind is that there's simply no way this is worth even half of their 4-ish game lead over Boston.
