  1. Not sure on Moeller's status after the Yanks DFA'd him, but I felt the following fit here, as opposed to a new thread: Jorge Posada headed for DL with a tear in his subscapularis muscle; surgery possible http://www.eorthopod.com/images/ContentImages/shoulder/shoulder_snapping_scapula/shoulder_snap_anatomy01.jpg
  2. Melvin is a bad GM when the team is a buyer. Can you provide more than the Linebrink & Estrada/Davis trades? I seem to remember a pretty darn nice deal to get Carlos Lee.
  3. Thanks for the link, kramnoj. Must be that, since it was the 3d out, the runner advance rule was irrelevant. I definitely want to see if this rule comes up in 2008.
  4. Tony Gwynn is so fast he makes his routine groundouts exciting! Oh, and he didn't run that 3d inning grounder out. Had he done so, he'd have been safe ahead of Braun's single.
  5. Yost batting Gwynn 2nd makes me want to take back any nice thing I've ever said about Ned. That, and starting him the same day he plays Counsell.
  6. Schlitz, do you remember how that Jeter catch was scored?
  7. Just saw a highlight of a guy making a catch in LC, and his jump carried him over the wall out of play. He made the catch, and got mobbed by some fans (small college bball). It got me wondering how that's scored/ruled upon. Quick internet search (mlb.com rules section) turned this up: Rule 7.04© Comment: If a fielder, after having made a legal catch, should fall into a stand or among spectators or into the dugout or any other out-of-play area while in possession of the ball after making a legal catch, or fall while in the dugout after making a legal catch, the ball is dead and each runner shall advance one base, without liability to be put out, from his last legally touched base at the time the fielder fell into, or in, such out-of-play area. If this is the rule, was the 'famous' Jeter catch -- crashing into the stands in foul territory -- scored correctly? This explanation doesn't differentiate between fair & foul balls. Iirc, Jeter's play was in 2004. Perhaps the rules have changed.
  8. Just some things to consider on Sheets. 3/2/2007: The DL Informer contacts Nostradamus on Sheets: "Clinical Impression: I wouldn't draft Sheets as my #1 SP this year because I am sure that he will end up around the 20-25 start mark, if not less, this year. That being said, do not hesitate to grab him as your #2/#3 SP. His low back should be fine, as normal activities can usually be resumed at around 6 weeks post-op. My main concern is his shoulder, and I fear that this may be the year of the dreaded "rotator cuff tear." I hope I'm wrong, because the guy is a great talent" Yes, this was a season earlier... but I found it interesting that a clinical analysis without even examining Sheets indicated rotator cuff concerns. Maybe I'm just such a non-expert in the medical field that this surprises me. Here's a list of players that I expect would sign multi-year deals that are near league average or better this offseason: Oliver Perez, CC Sabathia, Randy Wolf, AJ Burnett, Jon Garland, John Lackey, Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Ben Sheets. This is from the Fielder-Braun contract thread, by kramnoj. I think it puts Sheets's value in perspective. If I were in his position, I'd probably elect to miss as many starts as I needed to ensure I could get in at least 5-10 appearances down the stretch of the season to audtition for a new contract. That's a crappy thought, but with the money to be made, I think that's what I'd do.
  9. I'm genuinely curious -- How do those who have dismissed the notion of Gagne's 'struggles' being mostly related to bad luck respond when he pitches a filthy inning like tonight? Does he forget how to pitch sometimes, and magically remember on other nights? Or is there legitimately something else at play? I can't think of more than one or two appearances by Eric this season in which he hasn't looked as good, or nearly as good as, tonight. EDIT: For clarity.
  10. Jason, why you gotta play wit my heart like dat?
  11. Wow, Ned bucking his old ways? Rivera to PH! Bravo Ned!
  12. Now the Marlins guys are reppin' Ted Simmons big-time. So far, they've pointed out his 8 ASG appearances, and called him 'one of the purest hitters you'd ever want to see'. I think these guys are definitely on a par with the best announcing duos in the game. EDIT: Hall's ABs the last 2-3 games have been much, much better. This most recent one is strong evidence of that.
  13. Ummm... Jeremy Hermida is a fine ballplayer. Dang.
  14. Yea, Crazy Joe would've been a great option there. Why are we going with 13 pitchers not named Sheets again?
  15. Yea, probably, blancofan -- good call. Shucks. EDIT: Goin' with Counsell... not the best matchup, but it's gotta be better than Villy. Nice to see Yost trying something else
  16. Nice throw by Braunie, and nice deke by Kendall! Dang, almost got 'im Villy's really looked good so far, though I admit the Fish have been helping him out.
  17. No, not sure, but I'll go check. EDIT: P-b-p: Rich Waltz (played college baseball at UC-Davis) Color: Tommy Hutton (former MLB guy) Marlins' official website page
  18. You know, these Marlins announcers are actually quite good. They discussed the 'Kendall batting 9th' thing, and the color guy had actually read up on it -- he at least knew enough to say that he felt the effectivenes of batting the P 8th depends upon who you have to bat 9th, and that Kendall is a better fit than most teams have, including St. Louis. So far, I'm impressed. EDIT: FSN-FLA just showed a clip from New Jersey Net Mark Hendrickson's NBA career-high 19-point performance at home vs. ... the Bucks He played for Philly, Sacramento, & New Jersey
  19. Just want to share that the FSN-Florida crew is making it a priority to broadcast the sausage race in its entirety.
