  1. I'd personally love to see Barry sign with the Yankees. His swing is tailor-made for that stadium, and the circumstances seem perfect.
  2. GenoSeligPrieb - your messiah has manifested himself, at long last!
  3. I've felt that way, too, T BONE. A 'modernization' of the old ball & glove... a great logo if ever there were one. Besides, if it's good enough for Andre 3000, it's good enough for me! http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/15715698863a24ea5dbe46862db5a45cb3d5c3d.pjpg
  4. Jose Vidro is no reason to not sign Bonds imho. The M's are one squad where it would probably make sense for both parties. The teams rooted for out here in the Pac. NW are Oak., SF, & Sea.... so it's not like there wouldn't be any fan support up in Seattle. A one-year deal fits right in with how Bavasi constructs his teams, too. Add Bonds in with Ibanez, Beltre, Ichiro, Betancourt... suddenly there's an offense in Seattle.
  5. Basically, Medusa after she got too drunk & some frat guys shaved the sides of her head.
  6. Sorry ender, I just don't see Cameron as an offensive upgrade over Jenkins/Mench. Your opinion supercedes fact? Cameron has drawn right around 70 or more BBs for 7 of the past 8 seasons. Jenks & Mench have never done it. Your prediction for a .320-ish OBP is way off base. You 'predict' a career-norm BA for Cameron, why not OBP?
  7. Maybe he can pioneer the 'dread-hawk'
  8. go adopt a, say, a pitbull, or a dalmation that has already had issues from a shelter He didn't just single out pitbulls, and the boldfaced part is the most relevant imho.
  9. From the 'Prince Fielder: Vegeterian' article: "Fielder, who is also sporting dreadlocks in their infancy..." I thought I saw some! Don't know how you'd cram anything beyond infant dreads into a baseball cap, but I guess Manny does pull it off. Here's hoping we have a dread-ed up Prince by mid-summer! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I know it doesn't take much more than Sinclair's The Jungle to make me feel awful. When I first read that, ham/pork was in my diet as much as it is for a Muslim's for several months. My guess for the one Prince read - Fast Food Nation?
  11. Prince - baseballs are made of animals too! I think you should express your anger by hitting them as hard as you can with a bat. He doesn't want to hurt the animals! Tell him baseballs are made from the captains of the butchering industry!
  12. Thanks for the video link, Baldkin. Here's one I'm partial to (as I was at this game) - never before had I seen one (non-SP) man take over a game like this: 8/18/04 v. ChC I can't get the video to play for either link on that day. Hopefully others can see those mammoth blasts.
  13. Maybe he should have more concern for the humans that feed their families by working in the meat/fish processing industry. Come on. Good for Prince. My gf is a veggie-head, and I love the balance it brings my diet. Moralistically, I want to go veggie, but I like having meat in my diet... and it tastes good. How corny is the poll accompanying this article - "Now that Prince Fielder is a vegeterian, how many home runs will he hit this season?" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif You stay shoddy, MJS!
  14. Some guy that insisted there existed a 5-tool scale for evaluating pitching. I honestly don't even remember the specifics of the debate, just that the 5-tool poster was throwing everything under the sun into being right/a jerk.
  15. if wins are so low on the importance list for you and others, you are mistaken. as j briggs pointed out , the win stat represents more--like durability and dependability. it is one of a few things that evaluate a pitcher. Every time the P W-L debate comes up, I think, 'there's nothing that anyone can say in support of W-L that will surprise me.' Every time I am wrong. I think Ennder's ranking of W-L as about 10th-most important is about right. W-L, just like RBI/R/ERA, is a team stat. Its relevance to the individual is from a bygone era in which SP would make 40+ starts & throw well over 300 IP. Even then it was more accurately used as a team stat - and still is today. On the other hand, Lee Smith had great stats for wins and saves and Kos for a reliever. but his ERA was just a tad too high. People always looks for a single stat that will find a fault in a player rather than the 5-10 stats that make the player look great. people always look for a fault. You claim people cherry-pick a small number of stats, but then say Smith should be in the Hall based on W & S -- two subpar methods by which to gauge success & impact. Especially W for a RP... yikes! The Save stat is one of the easiest in all of the pitching stats to obtain, by its definition. There isn't a P capable of hurling in MLB that shouldn't be able to get 3 outs before giving up 3 runs. There are certain save situations where it's obviously a much tougher situation than that, but too often there are saves picked up when your team is up 3.
  16. i think cashman is the worst gm in baseball....he has so many busts its unreal his signings rarely make sense As I already mentioned, the earliest you can start calling them 'his' signings are from 2007... and even then Igawa was something more fueled by the Steinbrenner(s). Cashman had a deal that Vlad had agreed to sign... and Stein signed Sheffield behind Cash's back. I think anyone would agree that Cashman did a nice job in getting Vlad to agree to sign - unfortunately the meddlesome owner ruined his good work. I think you can agree that Cashman did a nice job in getting some young arms (from Det.) for Sheffield, and in retaining their young SP talent, and in retaining A-Rod. It's just not as cut & dried as most people assume when it comes to Cashman's tenure in NY. Just like you can't judge a rebuilding team's GM on W-L record, to point to the Steinbrenner-driven FA signings as a way to analyze Cashman is flawed.
  17. RoCo - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss - but as you said, it was just time. There's no joy in watching your long-time friend reach the end of his/her life except for taking comfort in knowing that you helped him/her have as good a life as possible... especially at 'the end.' *gets lump in throat as he types* While telling this to someone at the Humane Society, she implored me to not buy the dog from a pet store and instead find a reputable breeder. She told me that many dogs in pet stores come from puppy mills that not only keep their dogs in terrible conditions, she said the majority of problem dogs they take in were dogs bought from pet stores that likely were born in a puppy mill and sold cheap to a pet store. Glad to hear you've already gotten so much good advice - such as this - about being wary of pet stores (& heck, just in general). I ended up paying 450 for Tyson along with 150 to fly him from South Dakota to Milwaukee. Tyson! I remember the little guy. How's he doing? I got my cat from the humane society and it rules. Sure, the first 6 months she meowed non stop but I got a cat that plays catch, and fetch plus likes to be dressed up in ridiculous clothes. You now appear to possess arguably the coolest cat in the history of cats. The older Springer was an abused dog, and she had some pretty big issues when we got her. She didn't trust anyone and was pretty aggressive at first. She also had/has the propensity to bully smaller dogs. She especially doesn't like little dogs that bark at her. However, we've had her for about two years now, and she has become a terrific dog. She's a little high-strung and is stubborn at times, but is also a lot of fun to have around. She still has a few quirks, like the small dog thing, but overall she's great. We bought the pup from a breeder about a year ago, and he's been excellent ever since we got him. Was already potty trained and knew basic commands. He's a very mellow dog that loves to play. A springer - high strung? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif On that note Ralphie, your description of your other springer as "mellow" makes it quite clear to everyone that your second dog is, in fact, imaginary. Seriously, you guys got really lucky to get a mellow springer! Enjoy that. I absolutely love this breed, as my only two family dogs have both been English Springer Spaniels. In conclusion, I opt for a moment of silence for RoCo's friend... a great companion who will be missed. . . . . .
  18. tigers have a 140 million payroll, so that's pretty close to unlimited. Do they have much of a minor league system left after the cabrera trade? Dombrowski made his name as GM of the Marlins. He finally now has deep coffers, but proved himself tenfold with the penny purse down in Miami.
  19. For as much as I've not loved many pieces by Perry, that looks to be a pretty well-crafted list. Nice to see Melvin get some love, too! Honestly, though, I'm not sure how Dombrowski isn't #1. Epstein doesn't have as much time on the job, and since day one he's had unlimited money. Dave D. is my vote for #1.
  20. there's also a ton of hyper intelligent Brewerfan members who not only understand baseball but also have a mix of savvy and common sense that a GM needs. While this is true, I respectfully disagree. I do think there are at least ten of us who could manage the Yankees better than Cashman has. I can't find any way to agree with that part.
  21. I think it's more that teams are concerned that he'd receive jail time for his perjury case and then not be able to get on the field. If he isn't sent to jail, once that verdict is in, then I'm sure teams in the AL will fly at him (they should, anyway).
  22. "His hamstring injury was not fully healed until mid-October, said Sheets, who did not make any major changes to his offseason workout regimen." Well, at this point, wouldn't you consider focusing a bit more on overall conditioning? That was a bit discouraging to read. "'I take more positives out of anything than negatives," he said. "I didn't pitch a lot of innings, but it ain't like I pitched five. I had some very successful times last year.'" Damn I love Ben Sheets! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif "'All I've got is now. That's all this whole team has got. I don't think there's anybody in here worried about '09 or '10. Everybody is worried about '08. Nobody is looking to the future anymore.'" I am so stoked for this season - can't even put into words.
