  1. First two that come to mind are Griffey Jr & A-Rod... must've been fun to be a Mariners fan in the '90s Griffey came to mind for sure, but Trout is even better. Walks more, hit for more power, and stole almost as many bases in Trout's age 20 season(49) than Griffey did in his first 3 years(16,16,18). Arod is obviously in the discussion. Both kinda show how great you can be at 19, 20 and just how hard it is to reach what Hank, Ruth, Mays and company did. God does it make me sick that Mike Trout isn't playing LF right now for the Brewers(or RF..or CF, whatever). Eric-friggin-Arnett because the Yankees decide they have to one up the Red Sox and sign him out of the blue. But I digress. Guy is going to be a blast to watch the next 15 years. Trout's probably playing in a more difficult offensive era as well.
  2. If the club can add one more legit middle of the order bat (especially at 1B), imo they're as serious a contender as anyone in MLB.
  3. Well at least this is an east & not west coast game! Rain rain, go away...
  4. He showed improved BB rate after a while last season as well. Hopefully it'll be a sign this year that his bat will start to heat up. We could certainly use a replacement for Overbay, even if it'd only be until the FO trades for a first baseman.
  5. He didn't get his contract re-worked, he'll be going through the same salary control & arbitration process that every MLB player goes through.

  7. This! Thundercat, keep up your enthusiasm. Good stuff. And if you (or anyone) hasn't checked out Chris O'Leary's site, you'd probably enjoy it. He looks at swing mechanics in addition to pitching mechanics.
  8. I'm not sure about the emphasis being placed on developing Coulter's defense. He's been DHing a lot this season (23 of 58 games so far), which makes me think the Brewers are having him focus first on hitting. For comparison, he DH'd 20/70 games last season, & only 5 of his 33 games with the T-Rats (including catching his final 22 games of the 33). I'm really starting to think a position change is coming for Clint. He's young, strong-willed, and from his own comments really wants to be a catcher. But I'm guessing he wants even more to be a big-leaguer. And imo that's only going to happen at a different position. I wonder if we'll see Coulter moved to a new position after short-season ball starts & the new draftees are integrated into the organization. He's big & athletic, & could handle any corner IF/OF spot save perhaps 3B... & I only say that because the hot corner is the hot corner (it's where I'd move him first, honestly). My assumption is that the Brewers are first making sure they develop what looks like a potential monster bat, and once he hones that part of his game, ask him to learn a long-term defensive position.
  9. I think TC07's points on Coulter are really fair. The point especially about consistent good PAs I think is important. It's one thing to say a player is in a slump, & it's something else to point out that a player hasn't been having consistently good PAs. He's hardly bagging on Coulter, & it's pretty clear that Coulter is about his favorite prospect at this point.
  10. And this is true, in the context that swheeler23 laid out.
  11. Off the top of my head, Miguel Tejada, Raffy Palmeiro, & Mark McGwire were all guys that I remember really denying hardcore. I may well be wrong given how much time has passed, but I really don't think Braun was a special case aside from The Collector™. Clemens took his case to court, & denied big-time iirc.
  12. Pretty certain Connie Mack is seated to Ruth's left. Is it Walter Johnson sitting on the other side of Mack? This link elaborates on the full inaugural class(es), as four classes -- '36, '37, '38, &'39 -- were all inducted in the 'opening ceremony' of the HoF. EDIT: Here is another link to the picture, with all names cited. Before I found this, I was going to say the guy second from the left in the top row is Grover Alexander, so a self-back-pat to me! But I got Johnson wrong... he's the one with his head turned down... Cy Young is seated far right.
  13. The first couple of innings the Mets fans weren't in their seats yet. They became very vocal - and god knows how vile - as the game wore on. Why do fans vilify Braun more than other guys who tested positive? Take a step back from your Brewer fandom and it's pretty easy to see why. He was an MVP so he was in the spotlight. He came out and denied it like no other guy has before. Swearing that there was no way he did that. He had guys like Rodgers backing him because of his lies, bringing more attention to it. He also threw the tester under the bus and many people out there think he ruined that guys life (which I don't believe he did). He looked like a huge jerk. That's why. Plenty of other players have denied just as vehemently as Braun. It has to be just the tester side-story.
  14. I empathise with Sutton, I won't listen to a Brewers' broadcast on TV anymore, Rock's continual cliches drive me nuts, as does the lack of actual insight he provides. I live in FL and I'd rather listen to BA and Rock than some of the announcers from other teams! You guys don't know how lucky you are, frankly. The Pirate announcers are the worst. The Marlin announcers are great. I agree on both our broadcast team & the Marlins' broadcast team. I haven't experienced PIT's much... but I do still occasionally tune in to the MIA broadcasts on MLB.tv just because of their announcers.
  15. Dude. Keep posts like this coming. Great insight. I don't get paid to analyze pitching mechanics, so I'm not a professional. I'm just getting started breaking down mechanics, in fact. But, we all have to start somewhere. Would it be fair to say that you're not a professional pitching mechanics analyst either, and that you have the same uncertainty about Medeiros' mechanics as I do? Because your reply, while not only sarcastic, makes it seem like you have some matter of authority on this subject, and if that's the case, I'd be happy to hear it. Sorry I came across as sarcastic to you... I was being serious I just thought it was kinda funny that you wrote yourself off as not that sharp, & followed it up with a great post.
  16. Jeff Hem in particular does a great job with these feature interviews.
  17. Dude. Keep posts like this coming. Great insight.
  18. Dead Simmons (or anyone else!), please keep the quality content coming in this thread. Awesome to re-visit these moments.
  19. Nelson has had plenty of rough patches on his way up through the system. There's a reason he's dominating AAA, & it's because he's a legit MLB caliber pitcher facing competition that can't handle his hard sinker/slider combo. Imo the Brewers are just waiting until they're clear of Super Two concerns to call up Nelson.
  20. That would be unbelievable. I'll take the 1996 vintage, please.
  21. Tell that to Mickey Cochrane. I don't remember all the facts (or many of the facts at all!). I think it was when Macha was coaching (or Yost?)? However, the Brewers retaliated by trying to hit someone and basically lost the game because of it. I'm sure someone on this thread will remember the game I'm talking about. It was Yost & it came against the Cards. I don't remember the specific year or date.
  22. That's... um... a ridiculously unfortunate surname for the Spartanburg Methodist pitching coach.
