  1. I use both IE & FFox, and have never encountered this, fwiw. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the browser.
  2. There's nothing wrong with LaPorta's throwing arm. He may have stayed behind the plate longer at Florida if it weren't for the presence of Brian Jeroloman, who was considered a very strong defensive catcher. Thanks for clarifying... and in general, pwning the crap outta my post! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Exactly how does that stat tell you how many runners the Marlins allowed? It doesn't tell you how many base runners either team allowed at all. It tells you that the Marlins allowed way more baserunners than NYM. There's absolutely no way you can find any worth in using a DP stat to provide some insight into a player unless it's rate-based, which this one isn't.
  4. If you have the Extra Innings package, you would realize that Schroeder is one of the best in the business. Ditto - it's easy to assume that other (bigger) markets would have better broadcast announcers... but then you'd catch a game on TBS or WGN.
  5. I really am a fan of BA, & I like Rock for what he is... and can admit some affinity for him due to his presence throughout all the crappy years. Trust me as an out-of-market fan, what the Brewers have in terms of broadcasting is superior to all but a handful of broadcasting teams. The groups I encounter in my market (Trailblazers & Mariners) can't hold a candle to the Brewers' boys (especially the Blazers... barf). Fyi... the 'useless studio host' for the Mariners is Cara Capuano... I wonder if there's any relation.
  6. TLB--I think you have a much higher opinion of Pie in 2008 than I do. I think that's definite. Maybe in 2008, he won't be much more than average, but it's not every day that you find a 23-y-o with a realistic (even if you don't think he will, I think we can agree he has a realistic shot) chance to post an .800 OPS at a premium position like CF.
  7. Given that he played 1B at Florida, I think it's a safe bet that his throwing arm isn't the best... and iirc that's been discussed about him on here before. Honestly, after seeing how 'not tall' Matt is (from the Winter Warm-up notes/video/reports), LF is probably his best position. I know others have suggested that Mat Gamel, not LaPorta, is our 1B post-Prince - Gamel is significantly taller (and a lefty).
  8. Between Helms & Feliz, Gillick has Philly set at 3B for years to come! In all seriousness, his D is so good that you can probably stomach how bad his O can be.
  9. Roberts isn't much better than Pie for 2008, and as soon as 2009 Pie could be far & away better - without taking obvious positional differences into account. Both are guys that'll post .800-ish OPS-es, but granted Roberts will likely carry the higher OBP (at least for now). If you're taking age into account, that's obviously a huge edge for Pie. Given DeRosa, I don't understand why the Cubs feel they need to make this move.
  10. Don't forget earlier they added Luke Scott, Troy Patton, Matt Albers, Dennis Sarfate, and "George" Costanza in the Tejada deal. Holy cow, yea, I'd totally forgotten. Does Baltimore have a new GM, or has he just been granted more power by Angelos? End's point on flipping Scott is solid, especially if they get Pie.
  11. Favre has never really been big into that, but if Prince is a big market will lead to a lot bigger pay day in terms of dollars. Are you saying Wrangler Jeans & Prilosec OTC aren't the big time?!
  12. Good luck Corey, and if you get full doctor's clearance... give Doug a call! "Koskie, who estimates he'd had anywhere from 8-15 mild concussions in his professional career, remembers feeling so tired for so long." Whoa - not a good sign.
  13. It's weird... Roberts is good and all, but he's not much better than DeRosa, and imho... DeRosa + Pie >> Roberts + DeRosa (OF)
  14. Howry gave up a run in 18 of the 78 games he appeared in last year. Turnbow gave up a run in 15 of his 77 games he appeared in last year. Isn't that only counting the number of ER, though? I'd bet Turnbow let waaayy more inherited runners score than Howry.
  15. And he can turn 2 a lot better than Reyes. In the last two years for Reyes, he's turned 72 and 88 DP's in 309 games for a total of 160 DP's. That's a huge edge. All you can divine from DP totals is that the Marlins allowed more baserunners than NYM. These numbers alone tell you nothing about ability.
  16. No... not a blunder. If they can sign Bedard to an extension, it's a good move for them, especially if they can keep him and Hernandez as a 1-2 punch at the top of their rotation for a few years. Very true, but that's a big "if." Seattle hasn't carried a super-high payroll, but I guess the city seems to be a big enough market to support expansion there. I don't know how you can dismiss this immediately as 'not a blunder' long-term - Bedard's a good player, but I'm not sure whether or not the subtraction of Jones & Sherrill (arguably the best LOOGY in the game in 2007), to add Bedard makes Seattle capable of overtaking LAA. Giving up a promising young SP prospect (in Tillman) always has the chance to sting a little, but the time is now for Seattle, to be sure. Adam Jones profiles as a star player in MLB - the guy's going to be 22 in 2007, and likely a FT outfielder for Baltimore (and would be for many squads). I'm a fan of Pie as well, and if the O's can exit this offseason adding two potential star OFs, a decent SP (Marshall), a great LOOGY, and a good SP prospect (Tillman), for a SP they wouldn't have been able to re-sign & a solid 2Bman, I think you can only see that as 'job well done.' Sure, Sherrill isn't a vital part of any long-term plans, but if nothing else can be flipped by the deadline for prospects/parts.
  17. I don't know how many times I heard that Reyes is the most exciting player in baseball last year. That'd be heavily skewed by how much/often you subjected yourself to listening to Joe Morgan. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Bedard should thrive in Safeco Park, and the AL West. Good short-term move, probably another Bavasi blunder in terms of the big picture, though.
  19. And TLB, jazzytrav is so obviously a kitten sniper. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Oh yea, sorry. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Sheesh, that means that he still has a year or so to hone his craft before ascending to the 'Cat Sniper' category. Tiger Tiger Woods, ya'll. Setting my alarm clock on Sunday evenings is probably on the short list of 'Things I Most Hate To Do.'
  20. I just know I wouldn't want to walk past your house, that is, unless you can't get a clear sight-line on me. You look like you're probably the most accurate cat sniper in the history of cat snipers.
  21. a good first day for me would look something like this. 1st round pick best player of 3rd, catcher, or CF. Supplemental 1st one of the two picks on another position guy and then the next best pitchers they can find. I would not like to see the first pick limited by positional constraints. If there's any pick for the BPA strategy, imo it's your #1 - especially with so many picks in the first 2-3 rounds. I do like your focus on which players to draft, though... and focusing on big Z's strength offensively with our early pick(s). However, if there's an arm too good to pass up at #16, I see no reason why to avoid it. Just from a quick look at the BF draft rankings... if Cole St. Clair (LHP, Rice), Christian Friedrich (LHP, Ea. Kentucky), Tyson Ross (RHP, Cal), Jacob Thompson (RHP, UVA), or Brett Hunter (RHP, Pepp.) are available, it'd be hard to pass. Then again, in the 12-20 (BF) range, there's a C, 2 CF, & 2 3B candidates. This looks to have worked out very foruitously for the Brewers.
  22. It's Cameron, no question imo.
  23. Having said that, DDL gives the strongest performance put on film in the last 10 years or so... If you made a list of best performances in the last 10 years, wouldn't Day-Lewis be on that list multiple times? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I can't even pick a favorite... but I'm very partial to his role as John Proctor. If he's anywhere near as good as he was in "Gangs of New York" he should get the Oscar, which he should have received over Adrien Brody. The fact that Adrien Brody won an Oscar... for anything... should serve as a constant reminder of what a joke the 'Acadamy' really is. I'll agree though that it's not a particularly complex plot. And if you're waiting for twists and turns, you're not going to get many. It's definitely travelling in the realm where allegory and symbolism, the central conflict involves a corrupt capitalist vs. a corrupt preacher, DDL's final insults in one scene literally fall upon deaf ears, are as important, if not moreso, than plot. Keep in mind that what MSC just described is integral in nearly everything Upton Sinclair wrote (save the 'no twists & turns'). I'm very anxious to see this film. PLEASE, NO SPOILERS! (the 'deaf' thing is close...)
  24. Since Ramirez probably isn't as bad on D as the 2007 stats indicate, and Reyes likely isn't as good on D as his 2007 numbers indicate, I'll go with the power that Ramirez provides as the tiebreaker.
  25. Well, that's certainly not a 136 million dollar player. Very, very true. But it has only to do with ego. The point made was that he "doesn't hit..." outside of #1, but an OPS north of .800 is hardly 'not hitting'. Soriano thinks being a leadoff man is his life's calling, when in fact he'd be much more effective if he would welcome a move elsewhere in the lineup.
