  1. No one on the farm who could outperform a mid-.500s OPS? Morris could easily do that & be the LH-hitting half of a 1B platoon... heck, Sean Halton would most likely do better than a .600 OPS even just against RHP. Taylor Green would likely outhit Overbay, & provide another option at 3B. I agree with your assessment of Morales; he's only been a high-.700s OPS bat the past couple seasons, including his splits v. RHP. Add in that he's not a strong defender & honestly I want no part of guaranteeing him millions of dollars, either. Just give Morris a shot for the PAs v. RHP at 1B until Ramirez is back. And then once Aramis is back, stick with Reynolds at 3B & play Aramis at 1B. Then Morris can spell Reynolds some games against RHPs (& allow Ramirez to slide back to 3B occasionally) & be an actual power LH bat off the bench when he isn't starting. Or go with the Doug Melvin plan, & just continue to accept complete offensive failure from Overbay.
  2. Odorizzi? As in you're saying they planned to have him in the 2011 MLB rotation? Odorizzi, who was coming off of low-A Wisconsin the year before -- your memory is off on this one.
  3. Wasn't his rehab assignment like 60 days? Gonna be a while yet I think. Could be Figaro maybe to come up, not sure there are a ton of options. Doubt they put a guy like Fiers whose throwing well into the pen. Why wouldn't you, though? He isn't a better SP option than anyone up in the bigs, and is actually the second-best SP candidate in Nashville. His stuff is the definition of bullpen stuff in the bigs, & the Brewers could use the help right now.
  4. So our LH bat off the bench has actually hit poorly enough this season that he didn't look out of place as a pitcher at the plate tonight. Our backup SS/Util guy can't hit, our second UTIL guy can't hit... but he can't hit from both sides of the plate so there's that, not one of our 4th OF candidates is well rounded enough to help free up a roster spot elsewhere, we're platooning two IF positions, and Wang is so far from being big-game ready that he's only used when RRR feels he doesn't have any other options... and then he's shelled. Pretty solid roster construction this season.
  5. Wicked movement & a reputation for painting the corners for Lyle
  6. You were just staying positive! http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/images/2002/06/25/IjW7bvXT.jpg
  7. You know the thing about a Doumit's eyes, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. Welp, at least there was one redeeming thing in this IGT
  8. Smith was so burned out from pitching on the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th & 16th that he isn't even good to go on two full days' rest. The news can't be great on Thornburg at this point... only pitched twice since the 10th.
  9. Is there a precedent for this? Have other major league teams ever wasted a roster spot on an A-ball player for an entire year just to try and hold on to them and hope they realize some potential? Seems asinine. THere's a fair amount of discussion about that in the thread on Wang in the MLB forum.
  10. Davis looked like he let out quite the sigh of relief on the way back to the dugout after that blast. That was a BOMB.
  11. Come-from-behind wins in the past three weeks: May 13, 11, 5... April 29, 28
  12. You also predicted Lucroy would 'save the day' or some other nonsense in an igt for a game that the Brewers lost. Your shtick is just that, and nothing more.
  13. I don't think Gomez looks clueless overall, & he's certainly learned to harness himself better. But imo he's just nowhere near Braun's contact ability (nor do I really think he ever will be)... because like you said, Braun is a once-in-a-[insert time here] hitter. I guess I just haven't seen nearly as much to be concerned about from Braun this season as you -- imo it's mostly down to injury.
  14. You'd prefer he pushed it & risked taking another trip to the 15-day DL?
  15. From the link in the OP, it looks like Schafer has never faced Samardzija
  16. Here's hoping that Jorge Lopez can build off of his previous (awesome) start!
  17. He's basically looks like a platoon-only player at this point. You can check MiLB splits on Baseball-Reference.com -- look right above the red "Player News" icon on Morris's page. Really it comes down to his hit tool not being strong enough. He clearly has plenty of power. And even with the platoon concern, he should be up right now to replace Overbay. He'd be a nice upgrade for the 1B platoon.
  18. I think you're overreacting when it comes to Braun. I disagree completely that Braun isn't making better contact with the ball than Gomez. Gomez has absolutely improved, & clearly his stats don't lie. But he also still looks clueless at the plate at times, which is something you almost literally never see from Braun. Ryan's swing is just so methodical, easy/repeatable, & accurate. As for the hits "that went past the fielder's glove in the past are now being caught," I don't see it, & it's certainly not reflected in his AVG so far. His production, even in the limited time he's had so far (something that would disrupt & throw off a lot of other hitters) is right in line with his career norms. Naturally, there's no argument to be made against Gomez's defensive value. But Braun, like him or not anymore, is the kind of hitting talent that just doesn't come around very often. This is a legitimate Hall of Fame caliber talent. Then, on Price... I appreciate that what you're doing is targeting elite SP talent. But Price is only under contract through 2015. It'd be a bad idea to give the basically the rest of Braun's career for 1.5 seasons of Price.
  19. In a perfect world maybe, but the Brewers are trying to contend this season and currently have sub-replacement players at LF and 1B. I think Davis will turn it around, but Lyle Overbay really needs to be replaced ASAP. I don't know what potential options better than Moreland are out there. I would take the best return if I'm moving Marco & not limit it to one or a small number of positions. I agree that I'm not sure what 1B options are out there that'd be better than, say, Kendrys Morales. And that's why I'd leave my options open.
  20. I'd be interested to see your 'last 5 in, last 5 out' list, as well as anyone else's. I love this stuff!
  21. You yourself said that Peralta's prospect status should've been adjusted by his big-league stats last season, while also saying that once a player is in the bigs, he's no longer a prospect. "Prospect" is a fluid concept, and by the opinion of the organizations that make lots of money on evaluating & ranking prospects (aka the experts), all the guys listed in 'Stache's post were prospects. I get that you really really enjoy being right, but in this case you aren't, & there's nothing wrong with that. Just accept it & move on.
  22. Awesome! And what a catch!
  23. Dude. You're wrong. Just be grateful that 'Stache provided the information for you to review... that was an excellent response from him.
