  1. or you could check Cot's. I reject your simple & common sense solutions & instead choose to live in the darkness!
  2. Yes they do. He goes through waivers. If he's not claimed then he's offered back to the Pirates for $25,000. If the Pirates don't want him back (which seems highly unlikely to me) then the Brewers could send him to the minors. But every team would have to pass on him, not just the Pirates and since he's so young and appears to have a pretty good ceiling, you would think at least one rebuilding team would bite the bullet for a year and keep him on their roster. Gah. I (incorrectly) remembered that it was established earlier in this thread that he was offered back to the original club first! Apologies to Outlander... and I think I'll once again give up on trying to understand all of MLB's roster transaction rules.
  3. The process is that the Crew would have to offer Wang back to the Bucs (PIT would have to pay a small fee to get him back). I'm not sure what the process is if the Bucs turn down the player, but the Brewers don't simply pass Wang through waivers first. If the Pirates turn down taking Wang back, then I'm guessing he's just Brewers property, complete with all three of his option seasons (so he wouldn't need to be exposed to waivers) -- but that's just a guess.
  4. Ditto. If you are seriously planning to contend this year, then I don't see how you can eat up a valuable roster spot with a guy that basically throws batting practice every time he is called upon to pitch. He's had four outings so far, and looked good & put up a 0 in two of those outings. In the role he should be filling, I just don't see what the uproar is about. If RR would wise up & use Wang as a second LOOGY & then mop-up guy, he wouldn't hurt the club. For example, Duke could've been turned to to go two or three innings yesterday & Kintzler could be used for multiple innings if needed at some point as well; there's really no reason Wang has to be relied upon to go multiple innings in a close game. I don't believe Wooten or Figaro are better enough than Wang to get concerned about.
  5. I just don't buy that Wang is un-useable. Imo he can absolutely fill in as a true LOOGY & free up Roenicke from using Smith in those kinds of scenarios. This is down to Roenicke preferring veterans over Wang. Not down to Wang's ability imo. Should he be brought in to work the 7th or 8th inning in a regular-ish sense? No. But can he come in & get out the Justin Morneaus of the world... I think the answer is yes.
  6. There's more to it than that. You guys weren't even close. I knew the Brewers would be VERY good this season, so the 20-8 was more of an educated guess. You're laying it on pretty thick at this point, and now it's veering towards ad hominem stuff. Let's keep this discussion civil.
  7. Fantastic. Fantastic post.
  8. Davis needs to expect 2 pitches in 1 AB on the outside of the plate or out of the zone. I don't care if he takes a pitch that he thinks is a strike on the outside corner he needs to take it. Once he does than he can expect a pitch over the plate, because the count will likely be in his favor, and he needs to take it the other way like he did last night. Just get in a count where you will get a pitch to get the center of the bat on. Going the other way is so key, and you are daring him to pitch you their again which will result in either a hit to RF or a walk, and very rarely a SO. When Gomez was struggling right before he got out of his funk a year ago he I'm assuming was told to just take some pitches strikes or not. The pitcher wont locate all the time, so doing that will increase your chances of getting a pitch to square up on, and you make the pitcher work. So for Davis he needs to think take pitches. I'd tell him to just stand there with the bat on his shoulders and let the pitcher kinda know he wont be swinging and the pitcher will have to work for it to get me out. Then as the count gets in your favor think barrel of the bat and opposite field. The more he does this and is successful the less pitchers will pitch him this way, and it will force them to pitch him more inside, which he has a large inside area over the plate like Braun that he can smash anything in that area. If I was the hitting coach I'd tell him to do exactly this. Segura just needs to shorten up and go the other way so many times that the pitcher will come in on him and that's when Segura will show power. Segura make good contact, but pulls way to many pitches. Oh, gotcha. I thought you were talking about swing mechanics. I agree -- when a player is struggling, taking more pitches & getting away from a pull-centric approach is usually not a bad idea.
  9. Locked in a repurposed bank vault in the BF.net dungeon. HE WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE.
  10. What do you see as the minor adjustments for Davis & Segura?
  11. This IGT is probably already my favorite IGT so far in 2014, & the game still isn't scheduled to start for another hour & a half... (if it starts at all)
  12. His OPS is .14 points below league average from 2013. I don't think knee jerk reactions are made 1 or 2 months in. They are committed to Khris for the year in my opinion. Now, if it is July and his average dips closer to .200, they may look for a platoon mate. (But it will be hard to look past using Schaefer who albeit isn't a clear offensive upgrade - but is an option.) Khris OPS vs lefties is .958 in a whopping 24 plate apperances I don't think 200 ABs is a knee jerk reaction. It's pretty significant chunk of playing time. We used roughly 150 ABs from last season to determine Davis was our left fielder for 2014. We roll around to June and Khris has got a .700 OPS, and the team is still in contention, you have to consider making a move. His 1% walk rate is just really weird - and disturbing. Especially considering Davis walked a lot in the minors (he was usually around 10-12%). A contending team can only let a bad performing player stay in the lineup for so long. Of course, you have to have a replacement for the guy. But that's a different story. The organization most definitely used scouting well ahead of ~150-200 PAs to make that decision. They believe in Davis's bat, and I think if they didn't, they would've made a corresponding move in the vein of signing Reynolds & Overbay ahead of Hunter Morris.
  13. Excellent report -- agreed!
  14. Michael Pineda was just ejected from the NYY@BOS game for having pine tar on the side of his neck. This, after he was already seen in a previous start with pine tar clearly on the heel of his pitching hand -- http://usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/pinedahand.png
  15. I think Lepay's been solid, but not amazing (I think he'll ultimately grown into the job really well & be stellar). I actually think we have one of the best pbp guys in the business in BA. And I think this season, and the addition of Lepay for so many games, means the writing's on the wall regarding BA. I'm kind of expecting that this season or next will be his last with the Brewers. I realize there are plenty here who won't, but I'll miss him once he moves on.
  16. Nice! Looking forward to the eyewitness accounts.
  17. Awesome -- have a blast!
  18. They should be homeless? Executed. I think he meant to say executed.
  19. This is something that has been going on for years in the Brewers' minor league system. Not just not letting guys go to 100+ pitches, but pulling pitchers short of 80 or 90. I don't get the larger logic behind it... shouldn't we be building these young guys' stamina? Now in this instance, it's very early in the season yet, & who knows what else might have factored in. But this certainly isn't the first time you just have to scratch your head on when a Brewers MiLB SP was lifted from a good start.
  20. That was awesome. And I'd be willing to bet that, somewhere over his career of 10,000+ PAs, Chipper did the exact same thing as Carlos.
  21. This all has been making me think of the Cards feeling the need, once upon a time, to lecture Mike Cameron on untucking his freakin' jersey after the ends of games. The unwritten rules stuff is just nonsense, & frankly I'm glad to support a club that's well ahead of the curve on this topic.
  22. I watched some of the S1 recap marathon yesterday. Tatiana Maslany's performances are freaking awesome. I do have to say I felt lost in the plotline, but that's probably mostly due to tuning in mid-S1. My BBCAmerica show at the moment is Ripper Street. Another good ensemble cast drama with good acting... BBCAmerica is like a poor man's HBO, but without much quality dropoff imo.
