  1. All I can say to that is wow. I'll be the first person to admit that Bogut has been a little underwhelming his first two seasons. That said, I can't believe people are willing to give up on him so quickly. He's been playing in Stott's guard oriented offensive system the past two seasons, the first year, he was sharing the court with another center (Magliore) for a good chunk of his minutes. I'm willing to give Larry K. a chance to better utilize his skills before I dump him on the scrap heap. Actually, the discussion about trading Bogut reminds me a lot of all the "let's trade Hardy" talk that was going on here just a few months ago. I'm willing to give him another year to succeed before just giving up on him.... Like I said, I'm not too keen on Oden. If the Bucks got the number one pick somehow, I just don't see how they could pass on Durant. The kid is amazing, and all the K.G. comparisons are definitely warranted.
  2. Gasol has been in the league for seven years, while Bogut has been in the league for two years. Bogut will eventually become a better rebounder than Gasol. In my opinion, it's a stretch to say that Gasol is a "good defender". Gasol scores more because he has generally played on terrible teams without any big scoring threats. The Bucks have had Redd and the other guards jacking up shots left and right since Bogut has been here. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that the offense hasn't been run through him. Hopefully, that changes with Larry K. No way do I trade Bogut for Gasol...
  3. I've never gotten the man-love for Gasol. I think that he's hugely overrated. Way too soft for my tastes. Kind of similar to Bogut in a lot of ways, actually, except he is a much better scorer.
  4. I'd much rather have Durant than Oden. Oden will not dominate on 'D' in the NBA like he did at OSU. He's not going to be able to sit under the basket and use his size/strength advantage to intimidate the opposition. Plus, I don't like the way that he seems to play the game void of any emotion.
  5. Is it just me or does Bush look a lot like Jamey Wright tonight in not only his appearance, but also in the garbage that he is tossing up to the plate?
  6. Went to school at the U of M. Most of my dorm buddies LOVED the Gear Daddies, so I was exposed to their music quite often. I can't stand them, the singer's voice grates on me like nothing else. Go figure, the only song of theirs that I like, Blues Mary, is sung by someone else in the band.
  7. Actually I saw them with REO and Journey at the Xcel Center in St. Paul. The place had to have been 99% full. I have seen Styx at a few county fairs though... DeYoung isn't with them, but they got a sound alike keyboardist to sing the few ballads that they still do. Most of the live stuff is their "heavier" Tommy Shaw stuff, which is OK by me.
  8. Here's an example of music snobbery at it's best.... www.startribune.com/457/story/1085133.html The fact of the matter is there is a demand to see these "nostalgia" acts. If the demand was there for these hot young artists, they would be booked. I also just don't like the new stuff (I probably haven't bought 10 new albums in the last 10 years). If that makes me a mullet-worthy musical idiot, so be it. All I know, is the last Styx concert I went to was full to the rafters. Somebody must like them...
  9. That is correct. I know that Lou Gramm had some major health issues (brain tumor), and as a result had some thyroid problems that caused him to gain a great deal of weight. I talked to someone who saw him in Foreigner a few years ago that said his performance was (understandably) really bad. I think that he left Foreigner shortly thereafter and is now doing Christian music on his own. Asia's actually a pretty sweet band. They've gotten all the original members back, and they're all accomplished musicians in their own right. Two of the guys are from Yes, they have the drummer from ELP and the singer is from King Crimson. The guitarist, Steve Howe (Yes) is one of the best ever in my opinion.
  10. I don't know why they just don't utilize the Rock County Farm for the stadium/fairgrounds. It's right on the intersection of two major highways (51 & 14). While there may be some infastructure/traffic issues here, that would have happened anyway if the "swap" had occurred, because the guy would have developed the heck out of that land. True this would be moving the team out of the Beloit area, but if it saves baseball for Rock County, you have to do it.
  11. If the Twins want him, they can have him for nothing as far as I'm concerned. Send him back home - probably the second best scenario to dropping him on a division rival.
  12. I just don't get the hate towards Hardy on this group. I still think he could be a really good shortstop. Let's give him a another season and see what he can do before we put him out to pasture. If Rios is such a stud, why are the Jays actively looking to move him? What about Hardy's second half a couple of years ago? I get the feeling that some of you guys would have traded Yount for Oscar Gamble back in the day. No, I am not comparing Hardy to Yount.
  13. I wouldn't trade Hardy for Rios straight up.
  14. That's probably what Dalton was thinking when he signed Higuera (a much better pitcher than Suppan) in '90. The end result of that was losing Molitor. If Suppan were to get hurt or go Jaimie Navarro on us, they will be stuck with him, and hence will have a convenient excuse for their inability to put a competitve offer on the table for Hall and/or Sheets.
  15. One other thing that I was pondering.. Suppan appears a little overweight to me. Those guys tend to hit a wall and go downhill really quickly. I suppose that David Wells could be an exception, but he has been on and off the disabled list for the past several years.
  16. I'd be willing to part with some prospects for Penny, not a problem. He is a much better pitcher than Suppan, younger, and would come cheaper for less years. He would be a solid #3 starter for sure. That said, I really don't think that he's on the market.
  17. When did this guy become the second coming of Roger Clemens? Geez... talk about hitting the market at the right time. Somebody is going to overpay big time for a slightly above average pitcher.
  18. What is the difference between Rios and Cookie Crisp? They look like about the same player to me.
  19. Not only Sheets, but how about Hall as well? Everybody is gaga over Suppan like he is some kind of star. The fact of the matter is that he is a journeyman pitcher who has accumulated wins due to the fact that he never misses a start and has been on a good team. Jason Marquis had 14 wins on that team last year with a 6+ E.R.A. I remember a few years ago when everyone was laughing about how much Boston gave up for him in the deadline trade. One question that everyone should ask is why don't the Cardnals have any interest in him? They have plenty of holes in their rotation.. Plus they seem to have more interest in Weaver and Mulder (who will be out at least half a year). That says a lot to me. If the Brewers sign this guy, he is going to be an albatross around their neck... I pray that the Giants bail them out again, like they did with Dave Roberts.
  20. Once again, pass. As each day goes by, I'm getting more and more afraid that Melvin is going to make a move for the sake of making a move. What's the point of Taveras? Gwynn is the same player. This "shopping list", if true (Suppan, Crisp, Taveras, etc.) is scary. Did Melvin find Dean Taylor's list circa 2000? I saw a thread in the ML forum that has been locked. It's title should be words to live by for Melvin....."Don't overpay for mediocrity".
  21. Why would the Brewers want this guy? Because he has a funny name? Otherwise, he is not any better than Clark and/or Gwynn. Pass.
  22. I think that it would be absolutely idiotic to commit approx. 15% of the team payroll to Suppan for the next four years. Yes he has been durable, but that also means that he has a lot of miles on him as well. The guy has pitched over 1600 innings in the last 8 years. Just because he's not a power pitcher doesn't mean he won't get injured. He could hurt his back, have knee problems, etc - not to mention that he's not immune to arm problems. I can't think of many mediocre pitchers that teams have signed to big money long term deals over the years that have actually paid off. If the Brewers give Suppan big money, he'll probably just end up being compared to Higuera as to why they didn't have enough money to sign Weeks, etc. in three years. Patience is warranted in this situation. There have to be better pitchers available than this next off-season. If the team starts off strong, why not acquire one of them even if they would just be a "rental". If the team commits to Suppan, this won't be an option.
  23. Ah yes, the Larry Brown or Dexter Jackson effect. The more I think about it, the more I hope the Brewers steer clear. This guy is not a difference maker.
  24. Thanks for the stats, slobber. They kind of confirm what I thought. Suppan's "non-Brewers" stats are similar to a circa 1984 Ray Burris. I pass. Maybe for 6-7 million a year, but not for 9-10, especially for 4 years.
  25. What are Suppan's career splits, Brewers and non-Brewers? Seriously, they can't be very good. I'll pass for 9.5 million a year. Hopefully, he goes to Kansas City or another A.L. team, so the Brewers don't have to face him anymore. That alone would probably be worth 2-3 wins. Maybe they could buy DeLaRosa back for 2-3 million to help K.C. sweeten the pot.
