  1. Can't have enough pitchers. While I don't have any stats to back me, it seems that he pitched pretty well out of the pen last year. What can you get for him that would be of value this year anyway?
  2. Two words... point forward.
  3. It's about time that rag has reached the end of the line. I won't get into their politics, but I've found the production value of that paper to be that of a high school newspaper - pretty much unreadable to me. Mostly it contained a rehash of the morning's news along with a ton of "syndicated" type fare. The sports and business pages in particular left a lot to be desired. The only people that I've personally known to subscribe to the Cap Times were quite elderly. Don't know anyone who subscribes to it anymore.
  4. Stupid trade for the Suns to give up Marion alone for Shaq. Banks is pretty good too. Unless they win it all this year and Shaq stays healthy, this one is going to look really stupid in a few years.
  5. Boston fans are much more irritating than New York fans. I don't know what has been worse, listening them whine about the Curse of the Bambino or dealing with their bragging since they've won. It doesn't help matters that seemingly half the national sports media is from Boston. In my opinion, only Cubs fans are worse.
  6. So you are saying that the Timberlake/Jackson halftime was good? Frankly, the Super Bowl halftime has sucked since the beginning. For the first several years, I think the halftime show was "Up With People", can't get any worse than that. Got to love how every year on every message board, someone has to comment on how bad the halftime show was.
  7. Absolutely. Those fans in Minnesota are long suffering. It seems like since Puckett any guy who has gotten big there has been traded without much in return. It's a real sore spot with all my Minnesota buddies, and I still haven't worked up the nerve to rib them about the Garnett trade. It is kind of funny that they think the Moss trade was made by Red McCombs solely to "flip the bird" to the Minnesota fans for not supporting a new stadium. Come to think of it, there might be something to that.
  8. George Canale rocked. I thought that the Brewers had the next Will the Thrill on board for a (very short) time. That said, at about the same time, I thought that (the other) Kevin Brown was going to be the next big thing. Missed on those two.
  9. I said "Minnesota teams", not Minnesota Twins. Look at Knoblauch's stats from 1994-1997 and tell me that he wasn't a star at that point. Basically the Twins trading Knoblauch would have been like the Brewers trading Molitor after 1982. Knoblauch went completely south when he left town, so that's tarnished his legacy- but he was a borderline superstar. Pierzynski was an above average catcher, but not a "star". The Twins didn't want to pay him because he was arby eligible. That trade looked horrible for the Giants from day one, and it was a fleecing, but it wasn't considered a huge trade like the others that I listed.
  10. I believe that Braggs is married to one of the gals from EnVogue.
  11. I disagree, Pierzysnki was nowhere close to the fan favorite that Knoblauch was at the time. Knoblauch was easily the second most popular Twin behind Puckett and when Puckett retired he owned the town for two years. When he turned down the Twins contract offer and demanded a trade, it was a huge story up in the Cities (I lived there at the time) At the time Knoblauch was a much better player than Pierzysnki ever was, and was right up there with Alomar as the best second baseman in the league. Umm, Rod Carew for nothing, Randy Moss for nothing, Stephon Marbury for nothing, Kevin Garnett for (probably) nothing....need I go on?
  12. I've gotta agree with the poster who mentioned a Hughes Santana straight up deal would have been better for the Twins. Even a Lester package from Boston would have been preferable to this. Why did they make this deal without getting Martinez? They had better hope that Guerra turns into Rick Aguilera and Humber turns into Kevin Tapani, or they got royally screwed. Gomez doesn't seem like a sure thing by any means. Minnesota teams certainly don't have a very good track record when it comes to trading their stars. At least not since Knoblauch.
  13. Been away from the boards for a while. One of my kittens ran away, and I cant find him anywhere....
  14. I guarantee that Koskie ends up with the Twins if he plays.
  15. Japan seems like the next logical stop on his career path.
  16. I have, and it may be one of the most stupid commercials ever....The one where the gal speaks about daddy sending me away to college but he doesn't know how to write a check or read his cell phone bill - to his rescue comes the gal at the cell phone store, whom he later gets together with on a regular basis so she can help him out with such matters. Nice story, but I just don't get the point....I'm tempted to go to a U.S. Cellular outlet with all my mail to see what kind of a response I get to my request for "help". My guess is that I would get a few blank stares.
  17. No way is John a Hall of Famer in my mind. If somebody should get in for the surgery, it would be Dr. Frank Jobe.
  18. Good deal for the Mets. Church is solid, and Schneider will fill a good role on that team as well. As much as I hate Sheffield, I think that it's an insult to compare Milledge to him. I was thinking more along the lines of Ricky Ledee.
  19. Regarding the third base coach, I think that it's a foregone conclusion that it's going to be Kremblas. After the collapse, Yost doesn't have the pull to make his decision on this. I would be shocked if it was anyone else, especially considering that Kremblas "took one for the team" last year and went back to Nashville. That said, I don't want Kremblas as manager next June. This team needs someone with experience, preferably someone who's taken a team to the playoffs. The more I've read on Bobby Valentine, the more I think he would be a perfect fit for this team....
  20. I disagree. Manning was never a good player. The Brewers knew Thomas was the better player, but they foolishly thought that Gorman's "laziness" was becoming a cancer to the team. In particular, I remember quotes from another "Dalton coach", Dave Garcia all over the press after the trade. Trading a decent center fielder who had just led the league in homers for a no hit center fielder basically signaled the end of the Brewers glory days. All in all though Dalton was a good GM, easily the best the Brewers have had. Towards the end of his reign he slipped, he tended to sit on his hands too much, or make the wrong move (Ron Robinson, Franklin Stubbs,, etc.). He kind of lived off Bruce Manno's work with the farm system at that point What happened to Bruce Manno anyway? To the point at hand, I think it is asinine to suggest that Melvin should be fired. While I've found myself disagreeing with him more often during the past year (keeping Mench, Counsell, Linnebrink, keeping Yost), etc, he's done a pretty good job. I still wake up in a cold sweat with nightmares that Dean Taylor is back in charge.
  21. I've just got a feeling that Jenkins is going to be back. The only other team I could see making him a legitimate offer would be the Giants, and you got to think they want to get younger at some point. Otherwise, he's going to pretty much be getting the Reggie Sanders type 1 year-$3 or $4 million offers from bad teams. If the team were to decline the option on Jenkins do they retain negotiating rights with him, or is he one of those 'after May 1st' guys at that point? Don't want any piece of Prior, but I saw Haren mentioned...wouldn't want to give up the farm for him, but what is the status on Rich Harden?I'd be all over that if the shoulder was sound. He has nasty stuff and could be a nice 2 starter or even a closer if Cordero leaves.
  22. Not a big fan of his game, and I really wouldn't be upset if they let him walk. That said, after this I kind of want to see them match the offer. Bell is lucky that the Bucks gave him a chance to come back over here to play. Maybe he should go back to Greece, Italy or wherever... the Bucks matching might force his hand, no?
  23. You better believe teams will run like crazy on Estrada for the rest of the season. Simply put, regardless of their investment in him, the Brewers cannot afford to play Estrada anymore this season. Everytime a runner reaches base they will usually be a base hit from scoring within a few pitches. Got to think the pitchers are losing concentration on the hitters while he's catching because they are focusing on the runners too much trying to hold them extra close.
  24. Kind of off topic, but I've heard from some old timers that the Schlitz and Pabst of today taste nothing like they did back in the old days. Basically, if you buy these beers today, you are just buying the label.
