  1. Sharp post. I agree completely. Andy LaRoche is just a "name" because he had a Rated Rookie or something on his rookie card. So did Andy Marte. I haven't seen LaRoche do squat in any of the games in which I've watched him play.
  2. Why did the Brewers not up the ante here? Rauch would have really helped solidify that pen for not only this season, but for the next two (very cheaply I may add). It kind of makes me sick to think that Riske will cost about twice as much as Rauch for the next two seasons.
  3. I'm not interested in Street. He hasn't pitched a "clean inning" in almost a month. Torres is a better option at this point. If they were going to go after a "top shelf" reliever, I'd prefer that it be Rauch as an 8th inning guy. He's only walked 7 guys all year. That said, considering what Washington wanted for Cordero last winter, they probably would ask way too much.
  4. One word... Fatburger
  5. Cool, thanks for the link. Kind of weird that I only vaguely remember the blackout delay, but I remember Burnitz's injury like it happened yesterday. Probably because I was concerned that it would affect the team's charge for the wildcard (only one under .500 at that point).
  6. Sorry to turn the discussion back to strip clubs, but I had to comment on this. How did this guy ever live this down? Talk about demasculating.... at least pretend to pass out on the bus or something.
  7. I think that I was there for that Royals game too. Was that the game that Burnitz got drilled in the hand?
  8. How are Durham or Grudzielanek an upgrade over Weeks at this point? 10 years ago, sure. Not so much today. Durham is a switch hitting Eric Young type, and Grudzielanek hits a very soft .300.
  9. Packaged with Prince to the one of the big market teams... maybe?
  10. I'm big on Harden. I wonder if the A's would consider trading him, because they do have a surplus of starting pitchers. Durscherer, Smith and Eveland have all pitched well, and Chad Gaudin who has pitched pretty well is basically being wasted in their bullpen. I wonder if they would bite on a package of Hall and decent prospect(s)? They could have Bush or maybe Villy if they wanted them too. They could use Hall at 3rd, short or the outfield. Hmm..

  13. Hoffman looks like he is done this year. I would just as well take my chances with Gagne if worse came to worse.
  14. I think Maddux might not be a bad idea. Though at this point I think he'd be more like the '82 team's acquisition of Doc Medich... while C.C. would be more comparable to Sutton. I don't remember Medich being very good that year, but his acquisition allowed the team to dump Randy Lerch who was very Dave Bush-esque that year. I guess the question is whether Maddux is better than Bush or McClung. In any case, he would add depth when the inevitable injury occurs....if one of the starters goes down now, who is the next option - Villy or Zach Jackson I suppose? Likely Villy, so then the bullpen would get even weaker.
  15. Sometimes the best trades are the ones that are not made. Frankly, I think the Indians can go pound sand if LaPorta and Green are not enough. I'd give them a deadline of high noon on Monday. If they don't take it, move on to plan B. I think this team as its constructed right now is more than capable of catching the Cubs. Sure it would be nice to have Sheets and Sabathia pitching back to back in a playoff series, but it isn't worth mortgaging the future. C.C. was not impressive in the playoffs last year anyway. If I'm going to move LaPorta, I'd rather it be for a guy who will be under control for at least another year anyway (e.g. Rich Harden who has a club option for 2009 for $7 million).
  16. I'd rather have Harden any day. As a matter of fact, I think Harden is just as good as Sabathia. That said, even though it's a real roll of the dice with his injury....I'd see if Oakland would be inclined to move him for LaPorta. If they wanted Hall, Bush or Villanueva they could maybe be worked into a deal too. Regardless, the only way anything will happen with the A's is if they start to tank in the next few weeks.
  17. If they give up Hardy in any deal for Sabathia, I will pitch a fit. I wouldn't imagine that it would go over well in the clubhouse either.
  18. How about this? Ship Prince and a pitching prospect (Jeffress?) to Seattle for Felix Hernandez and Richie Sexson. Would Seattle bite on this? We'd be taking Richie's contract off their hands for the rest of the season ($8 millionish?) but his contract is up at the end of the year. This would give the team a stud young pitcher for several more seasons..... and maybe Sexson could bounce back somewhat with a return to Milwaukee. EDIT: Please use more descriptive thread titles - BtA
  19. I don't have a bit of interest in Sabathia. Whoever gives him a long term contract will carry an albatross around their necks for a LONG time. His size will likely cause a ton of injury problems down the road.
  20. Extremely stupid thing to do. Although I got a kick out of the fact that the umpire hardly flinched when he got hit - the pitcher must have been a noodle arm. Agreed.
  21. We have a winner. That thing annoyed the heck out of me - especially the later incarnation where Bielema's fat head imploring me to "call my cable operator" looked like it was about to explode.
  22. Pass. I'd rather have Dean Palmer at this point.
  23. No way. I don't believe that men should wear sandals (outside of flipflops at the beach) or clogs either. That said, I am an extremist on this issue. If "comfort" is the main issue here, why doesn't everyone just wear bedroom slippers and spare me the sight of their toes?
  24. That wouldn't surprise me in the least. Those guys were going to move the minute they bought the club. They cooked the team's books in the early 1960's to turn annual profits into losses. I've always wanted to dump a beer over Bartholomay's head. On another note, having lived in Minnesota for a long time...the Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry is a much bigger deal up there than it is down here in Southern Wisconsin. Not all Twins fans are "too nice" either, having attended several Brewers games up there I can attest. Plenty of obnoxious rubes.
  25. I've defended him for the past couple of years, but Hall deserves every boo he gets. Just when the team gets on track he had to open his yap and create a controversy. If he'd back up things on the field, he wouldn't be getting booed, but once again he looks like the second coming of Jose Hernandez out there.
