  1. Exactly. I'd rather take my chances with Lynn or Cobb along with the extra $50-60 MM or so. Heck, you could probably sign both for roughly the same price as Darvish or Arrietta.
  2. Would be pure stupidity to package multiple useful players together for Jordan. There is no doubt he'd bolt this summer and giving up Brogdon and/or Middleton, Henson or Thon would end up making the Reddick deal look like a steal for the Bucks.
  3. Keep driving the cost to the Cubs up. I'm still of the belief that this renewed Brewers buzz is a concerted attempt to extract more from the Cubs. Works for me.
  4. Archer is good, but I don't see him as a needle mover a la C.C. or Zach. It would likely take Santana plus two or more top pitching prospects. Too rich for my blood. I'd rather stand pat and see where things stand in June.
  5. That's great. Hoffman was a true pro during his time here. I remember him taking Axford under his wing even after losing the closer job. He was certainly one of the bright spots of the Macha era.
  6. I'd make an offer with centerpiece of Brinson. I'd then take my top ten prospects remaining off the table and give them a list of ten guys where they can choose one, then let them take two other guys that are not on either list. Then I'd walk away, and tell them to think about it while being sure to remind them that the offer could get pulled at any time. No way would I enter a bidding war for this guy. He simply doesn't warrant trading multiple top prospects like say a bonafide #1 starter would, or even a rental like Machado that could put you over the top if you are contending in June or July.
  7. I still think that Yelich is somewhat overrated, but I'd be ok with Brinson as the centerpiece. I'd give them a couple more prospects but certainly not upper tier guys. Would be royally ticked if Burnes was involved.
  8. Provided they acquire a serviceable big or two, I could see this team going on a mini-run in the second half against a soft schedule. In such a scenario, I could see them retaining Prunty.
  9. Reading through this, my gut feeling is there are legs to the Cleveland idea. Kipnis and Salazar both may be odd men out in Cleveland and both seem like guys the Brewers would add. I could see them having interest in Santana and possibly Villar, and this would allow them to clear salary to pursue Machado, etc. My guess is the major hangup would be whether or not the Tribe kicked any cash back due to the clause where Kipnis' option kicks in with a trade.
  10. This is starting to become a disturbing pattern. I love Ueck and hope he goes another 10 years, but there has to be something going on. These guys are bolting as soon as they can. I'm not sure any of them would be considered hot commodities, so they must be dropping resumes everywhere. I know that Milwaukee is not a marquee destination for sports broadcasters, but either the Brewers are paying them peanuts, Uecker is 'difficult' to work with, or a combination of the two. I have heard stories of Uecker not getting along with his broadcast partners going all the way back to the early 80's.
  11. If the Petits weren't able to get hockey here, it's not going to happen. The Hartford Whalers were on the cusp of coming here in the early 90's, but the Blackhawks put the kibosh on it.
  12. I began to see Wang as a poor man's Jorge Delarosa. Granted, his chances were limited, but I never really saw anything in those appearances that made me think he had much upside. All indications are that he had/has great stuff, but he wasn't fooling anyone in the chances he got with the Brewers. Hitters really seemed to tee of on him. Now that he's left stateside, the odds of him turning into a productive MLB at some point in the future are slim to none.
  13. Teheran is not that good and he's been trending downward. I wouldn't even consider Brinson in a deal for him. I don't see him as a significant acquisition or difference maker by any stretch, he'd be a middle of the rotation guy on most teams, including the Brewers. Salary hit would be a bit better than the FA starters, but that would be offset and more by giving up the prospects, especially some of the names mentioned above.
  14. Don't like this idea at all. Shaw was the Brewers most consistent player last year and is cheap. Trading him to overpay Moustakas makes zero sense to me.
  15. I would have given up a LOT more than that. In my view, Cole is better than any of the FA out there. Have to assume that the Pirates didn't want to trade within the division.
  16. Exactly. If he was considered a premium pitcher, the Brewers wouldn't even be players and he would have signed with a big market team long ago. Does anybody think that Kershaw, Kluber, etc. would still be trolling for offers in mid-January?
  17. Arrieta will most likely be an albatross wherever he goes. I will be furious if it is the Brewers. I say that because I believe he was pitching injured last season. Lots of guys will go on fumes in their free agent season in an attempt to cash in, look at how Garza pitched with a torn labrium. I'd be willing to bet that whatever team signs him will be paying at least a million a start over the length of the contract.... could be far worse than that.
  18. I like Archer, but the thing that worries me is he has several thousand hard sliders on that arm. I'd still be willing to give up a decent haul for him, but would have a very hard time including either Burnes or Hader. I saw Span's name mentioned somewhere, wonder if they would take a bit less if they could include him for salary relief.
  19. I'm not sure if I would trade Burnes for Archer straight up, and I generally tend to feel that prospects are overrated.
  20. If smart, the Browns should focus on the front 7 in this draft, in particular their LB are brutal. Garrett would be an absolute beast with more talent surrounding him. In that division, building a defense would be their path to respectability. They need to resist the urge to make a splash with an offensive player at one and trade that pick for multiple picks in the top half of the draft.
  21. If they "have" to burn money on a free agent, I'd prefer it'd be something like this as opposed to one of the FA starters.
  22. Sad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he is the first player from the '82 team to pass away.
  23. Unless I missed the news that MLB has instituted a salary floor, I see no reason to burn high 8 figures on this guy. It would be infuriating to see the Brewers enter into another big money multi-year deal with a pitcher north of 30. For heaven's sake, we are this close to entering a the season without an old, expensive, mediocre at best(albatross at worst), starting pitcher burning starts for the first time in over a decade. Please don't screw it up now.
  24. I'd say there is a very low chance that Rosen goes number one anyway. The kid from Wyoming has a better chance at being the first overall. I can't see the Browns being stupid enough to draft another QB in the first anyhow. Best scenario for them would be to trade out as they need multiple bodies to fill holes at nearly every position.
