  1. Did you guys miss the 90's and the turn of the century? I want to bask in the glow of the division title before I lament rebuilding yet again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If the team does tank, I can see the point about looking into moving impending free agents at the deadline (hopefully Greinke can be extended, but you also have Wolf, Marcum, KRod). At the same time, I'm not sure whether I would move established position players (who are locked in) for prospects even then. Having been burned by multiple waves of Brewer prospect flame outs over the years, I'm not as sold on the minor league system (as it stands) as some seem to be
  2. So, at this point, is it safe to say that Yuni has eclipsed Neifi Perez and Juan Pierre as the most disparaged player of all time among the SABR contingent? I've seen a lot of players come through the Brewers over the years and in my view, Betancourt isn't anywhere near the worst player (even regular player for that matter) that the team has had. I'm not sure that I would have given him two million though. I'm not going to argue that he's a good player, but he's not nearly as bad as some would have you believe- nor is David DeJesus as good. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle.
  3. "I had a four-year deal on the table, but it wasn't necessarily with a team that I could have seen myself playing for," Rollins said. Bullet dodged. If Melvin really did offer Rollins a four year deal, he's certifiable. Though I'd say it's 50/50 that Ramirez will be a bust, it's almost a guarantee that Rollins will not earn his salary. I will say that he's gotten a lot of mileage off his MVP season, which is really the only great one that he's had.
  4. Morgan has more value to the Brewers than he does on the trade market. I doubt that he'd bring back much in a trade, largely because of his reputation as a flake at best -or a cancer at worst.
  5. Now I've seen it all. Bottom line, as far as I can see, unless Braun is either a testicular cancer survivor or was born Rhiannon Braun and is undergoing a Chaz Bono type metamorphosis, I can't see any legit medical reason for a guy to have synthetic testosterone in his system.
  6. Didn't know that they had mini golf in N. Korea.
  7. OK, I've been thinking about this since the Atlanta rumors after the break in 2010... this morning I was reading the JS posts on the Aoki bid. Basically every other post mentioned 'and trade Hart'. I just don't get it. Yes, he's streaky at the plate, and he's not Dwight Evans in right field, but to me, some of the trade proposals I've seen for Hart are horrible. You've got a guy who should be right in the middle of his prime, off two seasons with 25 homers, and probably most importantly seems to enjoy playing in Milwaukee and has signed a team friendly contract. What am I missing? The whole thing kinds of reminds me of how everyone was dumping on Weeks after 2007, but this is far less justified.
  8. Kind of like the portrait of him that Anthony Witrado has "painted" here I can't believe this hack is still bitter towards Braun. He should be thanking his lucky stars that he knows someone who got him a job at a national media outlet (though who reads the Sporting News anymore? I'm sure that Braun's persona is a fraud at some level (who's isn't?), but I'm not going to change my opinion of him based how he treated the local media and Ken Macha. It's looking like Braun is guilty, but the primary reason that he hasn't been crucified by the press yet is probably primarily due to the fact that no suspension has been doled out. Not to mention that we are in the middle of football season. The 'small market' thing plays a role as well.
  9. If I recall, the question that was asked of him centered on his numbers if he's healthy. That's good to hear.
  10. Wow. This guy makes Bam Morris and that guy from the Cowboys look like college kids dealing out of his dorm room. He will be going away for a long time.
  11. At this point, I think the character debate is pretty much moot as far as the Brewers are concerned. Apparently ten teams are interested in Scott. I can't imagine him not getting a two year deal in this market, and Melvin refuses to sign bench players to multi-year deals unless their name is Counsell.
  12. Hogwash.... those cookies that they try to upsell at the checkout are loaded with a synthetic testosterone. Henceforth, we are getting an epidemic of bearded women out here in the sticks.
  13. Anyone else a little disconcerted about him dropping the 'if I'm healthy' line in his initial press conference? It seems that even he questions whether or not he will hold up, which is odd to me- since it's not like he's coming off a major injury or something. I could see someone like Ben Sheets saying that, but a guy who played nearly every game last year? That would be kind of like someone going into a job interview and saying, 'If I don't miss a ton of work, I can assure you that I will do a great job'. I would have rather seen him say something like 'I'll be dedicating myself to come to camp in the best shape of my career' or something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Was he prodded with a question about his injury history or something? I just read the highlights.
  14. Practically everyone has herpes these days, Which begs the question- if everyone has it, wouldn't you think that the testing system would have dealt with a similar issue before?
  15. Aren't you also concerned about the length of contract as well as the amount? K-Rod only has one year at whatever he gets ($12 mil perhaps?). Ramirez is at 3 years. Prince will most likely get at least a 6 year deal and possibly closer to 7 or 8 (even though it sounds like he want's 10 - not sure he'll get that). You can't just compare the contracts by adding K-Rod and Ramirez for one year and comparing it to Prince. I guess that it all comes down to what sort of contract he gets. Obviously, there is a risk in putting all your eggs in one basket, but Prince has been one of the best hitters in the game. If he ends up getting something crazy like 7 years for over $25 million per, I'll live with it. I'm not convinced he's going to get that though. Let's say that he ends up 'settling' for 5/110 or something. I will second guess that one all day long. I'm just not convinced that the Brewers will ever be able to acquire talent via the free agent market without overpaying, hence it's quite likely that moving forward they will either use the 'Prince money' to overpay for stopgaps, or maybe not use it at all.
  16. I could care less about the draft pick. I just hope that he ends up in the A.L. for significant money. If he ends up getting less per year than Ramirez + KRod I will be irate.
  17. Wandy is basically the same pitcher as Wolf, just younger. I'll take Wolf at one plus an option as opposed to being on the hook for 3 years with Wandy. Doesn't he get an extra year if he's traded as well?
  18. I don't know. Butler and Billups especially are both pretty long in the tooth. I for one really like Gordon's game. Losing Kaman is going to hurt them as well.
  19. You mean Gomez/Morgan, right? Not looking to nit pick; I'm just hoping Felipe Lopez didn't worm his way back. Yep. Nice catch. I'm going to have to start calling him Cargo. I've caught myself typing Lopez in a few times when I mean Gomez. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Lopez gets a NRI. The cupboard is bare.
  20. Wow, they really gutted their team for Paul.
  21. To me, given the personnel changes and assuming Braun's suspension, I'd be willing to bet that they hit less than 150 homers next season.
  22. I can't say that I'm heartbroken about this. Not a fan of Punto. Right now, the lineup has absolutely no depth. My guess is that they are waiting to pick up some crumbs that fall through the cracks come February. As far as I can see, either Lopez/Morgan and Kottaras are the only guaranteed backups. You can't have a bench full of rookies, and I don't think having a lot of young guys rotting on the bench is the way to go either. With the Braun suspension, if a guy or two gets injured between now and April, there are going to be some major issues. I think that Melvin's refusal to go 2 years for Hinske and JHJ could come back to bite him in a big way.
  23. Are we sure that this isn't just Don Money playing an elaborate rib? I'll withhold judgment for now and hope that Braun is exonerated by MLB. That said, even if he is, doubts will always linger. If he's found guilty, I'd have had more respect for him if he had been busted for coke or something. I can't stand cheaters.
  24. I can't stand the guy, nor could Cardinal fans. Not to mention that he makes me think of 'Dance Fever' every time I hear his name. Anyone else? I'd prefer Jack Wilson for this role.
