Yep. And Lackey is being waaaaaaay undersold. Not to mention the fact that he makes league minimum next year. Unfortunately a great deal for the Cardinals imo.
Hes not particularly good at any one thing i think is where the comparison come from. He's not a great prospect from what I can see. Having a good year for sure, but I don't see him as a big time prospect.
Cardinal fans put rosy spin on everything Cards do. They loved Schumacher when he was there too. Everything I've read indicates that that's about right. If he is in fact like Schumacher, that's no loss.

The problem is the only position where an upgrade makes sense is 1B and the available names there aren't any better than what they have. Unless they were to suddenly move Braun to 1B and pick up a Byrd or a Rios, all they hope to do is find an upgrade to Schafer as bench bat and 4th OF. The lineup is capable enough, it just needs to start taking better approaches. Carp is better than Overbay by a fair margin. That's who I'd like to see. He makes perfect sense for the Brewers. On topic, I don't see the Rays trading Price and I definitely don't think he's coming here. We don't have the goods.
There's nothing I hate more as far as descriptions of players go than to classify a starting pitcher as an "innings eater." What that phrase truly means is the guy doesn't have what it takes to be a great pitcher, hes "just a guy" you can throw out there and eat some innings and hope he doesn't get you shellacked. If Nelson is an innings eater, trade him. IMO He said "innings eater build". Pretty big difference. I don't think Nelson is nearly the prospect that a lot of people here do. I think his ceiling is that of a #3 pitcher, with a #4 type more likely. His command isn't very good and he's 25. Obviously that can improve, and here's hoping it does. Even as a #3/#4 he's still valuable.
I would easily do Nelson/Thornburg/Coulter for Price. I would be more hesitant to add Gennett, not because I think he's going to be great going forward, but because it weakens this year's team. Now, if the Rays add Zobrist to the deal, I would include Gennett as well. Having said that, I think the Rays keep Price.
He has a really nice OBP-heavy OPS, & has his whole career. He hits lefties & righties. There is nothing overrated about him, & he would absolutely be a difference-maker in our lineup. Swapping his .279/.395/.456/.851 2014 line in for the .220/.300/.364/.664 line the Brewers have gotten so far from 1B would be a massive improvement. Saying anything otherwise is just not being objective -- seriously... a nearly 100-point jump in OBP isn't a difference maker? Let's be honest here. As a throw-in, he's been stronger in the 2nd halves of seasons, & sports an OPS north of 1.000 for the month of September on his career. The Red Sox will reload for 2015 so I don't see them parting with Napoli anyway. Napoli's a good offensive player but the top 5 in the Brewer batting order are pretty good. Where you going to hit Napoli, 6th? A lot of those walks he takes there would result in him being stranded. He's a clogger once he does get on. Brewers could use a lefty bat with some pop to use in place of Davis or when Braun needs a day off. You can't be serious with the clogger thing. You just can't.
Seriously? Are you sure about that? Completely positive. It's way too much money. Do you guys honestly want to pay him $60,000,000 for the next 2 1/3 years? Or, worse yet, $45,000,000 for the next 1 1/3? I mean, that's horrible for our situation.
Great haul for the Cubs. Russell is going to be a really really good player IMO. Also a good deal for Oakland. They seem to make the playoffs a lot, without ever winning a series. They need better starting pitching, despite their preposterous run differential this season.
