  1. All right, no more drunk driving talk. Let's get a win! Hopefully Wily pitches like he did his last time out and the bullpen doesn't puke it up.
  2. I've learned enough not to get [expletive deleted] to the tune of 3 times the legal limit and then get behind the wheel of a car, especially when a free service is available to pick me up. Well, I agree. My original comment was directed at whoever said that anyone who ever blows a .22 has a problem with alcohol. I'm not excusing his behavior in any way, just pointing out that young(ish) people make mistakes with alochol.
  3. That's what you're basing it on? He's 25 years old. You may be right, but I don't think you have much evidence. What an awful excuse and he's 27 years old. Sorry, 27 years old. And you haven't learned (or didn't learn) anything in your 20s?
  4. Yeah, except Lambeau is awesome. I'm not a Packer fan, but my whole family is, and I go there every chance I get. Wrigley sucks top to bottom. It just occured to me that my stupid username might be betraying me here. I don't even hate the Cubs that much.
  5. That's what you're basing it on? He's 25 years old. You may be right, but I don't think you have much evidence. There is always a probability that this was a rare occurrence, he made a mistake, etc, etc, but the circumstances suggest otherwise. As I said, it's possible that you're right. You may have more info than I do too. I'm not sure about the performance part specifically. He sucked last April too.

  7. It's complete nonsense. Gimme a break. Anyone that blows a .22 has a drinking problem? Anyone? I think if you get to .22 regularly I would agree, and honestly, I have no idea what Yo's drinking habits Yo has, therefore I wouldn't make a completely foolish blanket statement about him.
  8. This 100%. Wrigley is an open sewer and should be leveled immediately. All these arguments about "charm" and "tradition" crack me up. I prefer "parking" and "urinals" personally. I think a lot of the Wrigley hate is overblown. While I avoid the Lakeview neighborhood as much as I can, Wrigley itself isn't bad. The food selections are much better. They have added a lot of bathrooms, including ones with urinals, over the years. Yea, parking sucks. But it pretty much does at any downtown park, that's why there is public transportation. The only real complaints I have are the lack of video replay if you aren't sitting near a tv in the stands and when I was there earlier this year I was unable to find the pitch speed display (which was there in previous years). And I think the players have some viable gripes when it comes to their facilities. I honestly didn't know that because I have been there in about 10 years. I simply won't go anymore. It's a terrible stadium and a huge hassle to get to IMO. The thing that kills me is this talk of "tradition". What tradition? Losing 90 games a year?
  9. Everyone who gets drunk doesn't have a drinking problem and it is really easy to not realize how much you've drank especially if you are doing shots etc which tend to hit you hard when they do hit. I agree that driving while drunk is awful and when I go out I make it a point to not drive even if I'm just having a beer or two. But I would never suggest sending him to rehab over this unless the team has seen he is doing it constantly or something. I disagree in part, if you mean anyone who drinks to an .08 or .10 then yes. However, if you drink yourself to a .22, you have a problem with alcohol. Yo is listed as 215 lbs. My drunk driving chart that I use in my practice indicates that someone of that size would have to consume 12 drinks in one hour in order to get to that level. If he were out for 4 hours, it would be more like 16 drinks. That's a problem. As part of his conviction he will have to go through an AODA assessment and follow through with classes. Lets hope he takes it seriously. The bolded is complete nonsense.

I wasn't anywhere near that BAC, but I made a foolish mistake and learned from it. Hopefully Yo will as well.

  12. He didn't throw a single strike to Castro who swung at 7 balls in a row? Rizzo is not that type of hitter. There is no excuse for putting Axford in there and definitely no excuse for leaving him in for another inning when the game was on the line. This is one loss that is largely on the manager even if the final result wasn't set in stone if they made better moves. Did you watch the game or were you watching on gamecast or something? Because he was filthy against Castro. Not sure how you can come to the conclusion you did if you were actually watching the game.
  13. I disagree. His location was definitely slipping and he hadn't looked good at all vs lefties. Right decision, poor result followed by poor decision with good results with Axford. Yeah Wily looked horrible against Castro. No kidding. He was filthy against Castro. He should've been left in.
  14. Haha...I was trying to get on here to say how bad Gonzalez sucked before he threw up that meatball to Rizzo. I guess it wasn't just my connection after all.....
  15. Are you suggesting that Jungmann and Bradley should be in the majors at this moment? what im suggesting is that theres no way to say any player will develop and rise through the minors the same in one franchise from another. to think that had the brewers drafted Fernandez and Barnes, and that they'd have the same success/training/advancement in the minors is pretty insane. While I agree, I certainly think that anyone who had seen Barnes would agree his ceiling was way higher than Jungmann's. There were certainly problems with Barnes, but the ceiling was way higher. The floor was also quite a bit lower, which led to Jungmann's selection I would think.
  16. The Brewers could have drafted Jose Fernandez and Matt Barnes in the 2011 first round. Easy to say in hindsight obviously, but amazing to think about what the future would look like if they had made those two picks. Yeah, forgot about Fernandez too. I actually was really rooting for Barnes at the time, but only because I had actually seen Jungmann and Barnes pitch and thought Barnes had far better stuff. I liked the Bradley pick though, just because his ceiling was/is so high. I hated the Jungmann pick because he's such a low-ceiling guy. Fernandez wasn't on my radar at the time at all, but I'd sure love to have him now.
  17. I really wish we would've just taken Matt Barnes in the draft when we took Jungmann and Bradley. In any case, I would make Nate82's deal immediately. This team is going nowhere as presently constituted. Could they win 85-87 games? Probably. But i don't see them making any noise in the playoffs with the complete lack of starting pitching.
  18. Yuck. I'm not as mad as some here will be, as long as it's not a ton of money. We can use the pitching. I don't like losing the pick, and I don't think he's nearly as good as he's pitched the last 2 years.
  19. If you (and BP apparently, not sure when in 2012 this was written) can't see an improvement in his approach I don't know what to tell you. The poster xisxisxis has a track record of posts that show he believes Melvin's a crappy GM no matter what rational facts are presented to the contrary, so it's not illogical to conclude that you can tell him anything that will change his mind. David, do you sincerely feel that Melvin truly has no long-term plan? Or do you just disagree with what you presume his approach to be? I think he doesn't have a job if your assumption is actually the case. But Melvin hasn't become one of the most respected GMs in the business because he's inept or has no well-reasoned long-term plan. He has a delicate balance to maintain in this market with rather limited margin for error, which for the most part he's done increasingly well as time's gone on and the team's become more successful. I wonder if some folks hold GMs & managers to "Eckersley-level" standards for success under the flawed premise that those outliers on the most-incredibly-successful end of the spectrum -- which are just about impossible to attain -- are actually the norms and should be used as the basis for judging all others. Rollie Fingers was one of the best closers of his time, but some would want to look at him now and contend that he wasn't so great because, well, look at how much better Eckersley was during his years as a closer. The Eckersleys & Mariano Riveras are the flukes, not the norm. For everyone who thinks Melvin's a lousy GM (or Roenicke's a lousy manager -- pick your typical brewerfan.net gripe!), I'd sure like to know who they think would come into the position with better credentials/track record and a greater certainty of better achievement. Failure to suggest legit alternatives often tends to point to closed-minded judgements. I didn't realize that. Thanks for the heads-up.

  21. This broke my heart when it happened. I was 9 years old and he was my favorite non-Brewer player. RIP Lyman.
  22. He's worth the contract at last year's #s IMO. The scary thing is, what is he worth with a .325 OBP? Waaay more. And I know that's a stretch, it's just that his upside is so, so high.
