    That's one heck of a sports day. It would really be pretty difficult to match a day like that in terms of attending 2 live sporting events that have such large implications for each team. Have a good time-- I imagine there are a few others out there who are doing the double dip; I envy you. Yeah, have had tickets to the Badger game for awhile now, so I figured if it was a day game on Saturday for the Brewer game that I'd give it a shot. Any later than a 1 PM start and I don't know if I could've pulled it off. Hoping for a well pitched game that the Brewers win, so I get to the Badger game in plenty of time. Should be an epic day.Aaaaahhhhhh...........to be young and childless again..........

    I know it's a late post, but I couldn't agree more. His attitude is flat-out fantastic, and he is pretty darn good at his role.

    Could not have said it better myself BCU. People are taking "You paying attention Milwaukee" (or whatever he said) as being over the top? Really? I think it was great and as the Diamondbacks announcer, of course he's going to be excited. Heck, if it was a game in mid-May with that kind of ending it would still be very exciting. I don't have any problem with what he said last night necessarily. I just think he's a terrible announcer.

    you can still buy playoff tickets on their website too. A friend of mine posted on Facebook laughing at the "20,000" people who left early. My response was "if there were 20,000 there to begin with". Those fans don't deserve that team. Neither do the Rays' fans.

    I agree with Fondy. I couldn't stand him when he was here (and, no, in fact there's no chance I'd be looking for audio if I were a d-back fan), and I can't stand him now. As Fondy said, every single play is a huge deal. Makes it a lot less exciting when the play is actually huge.

    I don't know what was worse: The Dodgers blowing the lead, or Darren Sutton screaming, "Are you watching Milwaukee?"Daron Sutton (he even spells his name like a d-bag) is the worst, Jerry. The worst.

    I would start Greinke in game 1, but that wouldn't be my reasoning. I'd start him in game 1 (and a possible game 5) because he's their best pitcher.

    Well we need to stay one up on them to get home field because they won the season series. So, with 5 to play and 1 game lead right now is the magic number 5? I am pretty sure any combination of 5 wins by us or losses by the D-Backs and we win it.     He probably did the same thing I did when I compiled my list. I didn't even bother writing down the teams I was absolutely certain made the playoffs. I didn't write down the '80 Phillies or the '93 White Sox, or any number of A's teams because I knew they made the playoffs.

    Preach on brother, preach on. I am thoroughly amused by the outright terror sabermetrics cause in people. I have no interest in telling people not to use RBIs and Wins if that's what makes them comfortable. What bothers me is when people denegrate a different method because they don't understand it.     Take if from someone who has questioned the stat geeks. Whitlock is right on the money. Check out the threads that discuss Mark Kotsay for instance. Because some stat geek came up with "Wins above Replacement" as a measure of value, and Kotsay has been marginally negative on this for the last several years. the argument (and if you refute it you are an idiot) is that Kotsay is completely worthless and doesn't belong in the game. The true stat geeks are zealots. Sabermetrics is their religion. Other examples of stat geek beliefs that you can't argue with them about: RBI totals are random and thus useless in measuring a player's value. A high BABIP is good luck and a low BABIP is bad luck. Wins and losses are completely out of a pitchers' control and therefore also a useless stat. And this is my personal favorite: "Walks are as good as hits". I have a theory about that one that goes back to youth baseball. We use to yell at the guys on our team that couldn't hit "a walks as good as a hit" when they were up to bat. What we meant was "We all know you can't hit, so take pitches and maybe the guy will walk you". Apparently those guys took us at our word, and all of them convinced themselves that walks are indeed as good as hits, and became stat geeks. Is there a HOF on this board? Because this post belongs there. Why are people so afraid of Sabermetrics? I'll never understand it.

    1962 Dodgers did it. Drysdale/Wills............lost a three game playoff........had 101 wins and didn't make the playoffs....ouch. And Matt Kemp is not winning the MVP, so it doesn't matter too much.
