  1. Or trade for Barmes AND Carroll, which I would've advocated before the injury, and when Rickie comes back Carroll can play some third as well as some shortstop. And DFA Betancourt when Weeks returns.
  2. I'll be dancing if he's back in four weeks or less. That's great news.Amen. I reeeeally hope that's accurate. We'll be fine if it's only 2-4 weeks. Trading Prince is not the answer IMO, no matter how long Rickie's out.
  3. This is also a huge assumption. I see nothing in Farris' history that indicates to me that he's a major league player. I hope to God this is just a stopgap, as others have said, until a trade can be made.
  4. Because he's just about as good and you get him for 2 1/3 years instead of 1/3. I agree with kelbysdaddy, I'd much rather have Pence.
  5. Huge grain of salt. As I said earlier, this makes it more likely IMO. Ik that. This is why I posted it.Gotcha...............I gotta say, I'm drooling over the possibility of adding Thornton to our pen, and absolutely terrified about how much money we may take on.

  7. Thornton is not flat out garbage. He's actually been really really good. This year, I'd say just good, but part of that was being miscast as a closer. His 2008-2010 numbers are pretty awesome. And he's lefthanded. He'd make our bullpen extremely nasty. Rios probably is garbage, but he's a good CF with speed and has hit and hit very well in the past. Now, the $ involved obviously would make this a terrible deal on the surface, but if CWS picks up, say, $40M I wouldn't be too displeased. I'm not high on Gamel really though, so that certainly is part of it for me. I also can't see CWS picking up that much money. Trading our future 1B who is raking in the Minors for two 30+ year old players with bad contracts is the epitome of flat out garbage. Thornton is owed $12MM over the next two seasons. Rios $39MM over the next three. Those are awful numbers. Now, like you said $40MM of the $51MM, yeah I could do that but I doubt they cover that much. Having said all that, I wouldn't mind adding Thornton and/or Rios to be honest with you. However, trading Gamel for these players seems like such an extraordinary overpay to me on the surface. I'm not opposed to trading Gamel but there has to be other teams out there who will deal less expensive, quality players at positions of need (SS/3B) rather than someone to serve as a backup and a relief pitcher. I think we're pretty much on the same page. You just value Gamel more than I do. I really like the thought of adding Thornton to our pen, but, admittedly, Gamel does seem like a pretty heavy price to pay. Having said that, I doubt you could get him for less.

  9. I just noticed Thornton is owed $13M through 2013 too. Yikes.
  10. So, I would classify it as "likely" then.
  11. Yeah, but he's owed $49.5M plus the rest of this year. I'd have to imagine the Sox are picking up $30M + of that. So this would beat the heck out of picking him up off of waivers. Still not good, but better than paying him that. He's the worst contract in baseball, including Alfonso Soriano. Unless I'm forgetting someone.
  12. This actually makes some sense if CWS pays all of Rios' salary, or most of it.
  13. ahhh..........no. Unless it's all of Rios' money. Then I could live with it. I wouldn't like it, but I could live with it.
  14. I'd be stunned if we could get Ramirez for Gamel. He's signed for 4/$32M which seems pretty team-friendly. In terms of a firesale, I think that term would apply to their expensive players like Rios, Konerko, Dunn, etc. Ramirez may well be the last guy that the White Sox would trade. I'll be interested to see if Kenny has any takers when he puts Rios on waivers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  15. It's better than the Brewers getting him. By a lot.
  16. I appreciate it. I really like Posnanski. I'm not sure what I think yet, but that's a very interesting read.
  17. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was just wondering what everybody else thought of his past 2 seasons. The guy went from a lifetime slugging % of approximately .410 to .617 last year, to .680 (54th all time if it holds up). Anybody else think he's getting a little help from Dr. Feelgood?
  18. Rasmus is a far better defender, is 2 years younger, and was pretty damn valuable last year. He's struggled this year, but it's pretty stupid to give up on a good centerfielder who put up a .858 OPS at the age of 23. Edit: I see Rasmus has a pretty bad UZR, so maybe he isn't the defensive player I thought he was. Anybody have an opinion on Colby's defense? I always thought he was considered a plus defender.
  19. I agree. Jackson is a pretty nice upgrade from Kyle McClellan, but Rasmus being gone hurts the offense. Seems really stupid on St. Louis' part if you ask me. Which I'm all for, obviously.
  20. Considering that we have a manager who will put Kotsay at CF, that is still an upgrade! Beltrans' deficiencies in CF plus Beltran's bat are still an upgrade over Brett Carroll or Mark Kotsay, right? We're talking about maybe 2 games a week. The rest of the time he'd be in RF I was speaking strictly defensively. The net is a positive because only about 1/3 of the games would put Beltran in CF. And I don't believe he's much of an upgrade in RF defensively. The defense of Luc, Fielder, Weeks, Betancourt, McGehee, Braun, Beltran and Hart would be an abomination. That's all I was saying.
  21. Well, if we acquire Beltran and make the playoffs, we may well be the worst defensive team to ever play in the postseason. That's.....something..........I guess.
  22. Dumpster is due to get absolutely rocked by the Brewers. Tonight would be an excellent time for it.
  23. This. Although I'd still prefer just Barmes. Don't really see the need for Wandy, unless we can steal him (doubtful).
  24. I would prefer Barmes, just because his defense is quite good, but Carroll beats the hell out of Betancourt.
