  1. Are you mocking me? Panera beats all three... I'm completely addicted to Jimmy Johns.
  2. Three other good ones that haven't been mentioned yet: 1. Mean Streets--one of Scorcese's earliest movies, also i believe the first movie to introduce popular music into its soundtrack 2. Bonnie and Clyde 3. Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai--a Jarmusch joint. excellent compare/contrast of the gangster Way with the samurai Way.
  3. awesome. his ballads are genius, beautiful and usually incredibly sad. his gravely-voiced songs i don't usually care to listen to, but i still spend time reading the lyrics for the poetry alone. so few people past or present who can write songs of his quality. my latest favourite is "the World Keeps Turning".
  4. no way I see Gagne as a closer again in 09 no matter how well he pitches, because he'd be worth a couple picks if he becomes a Class A FA. to me, Riske seems the clear favourite to take over. I'd tell Turnbow he's too good in the 8th inning to take over the closer's role again.
  5. nice call on Miller's Crossing. definitely one of my favourite gangster movies, on the level of Mean Streets and Goodfellas (check out Kurbick's The Killing). Gabriel Byrne is the coolest actor in Hollywood right now, Sterling Hayden being the coolest of all-time. Jim Jarmusch is also an underrated director (see Dead Man, a psychadelic Western). thankfully the Coens are getting some recognition now.
  6. local news broadcasts are one of the most overrated thing ever. it's 5 minutes of news and 25 minutes of human-interest stories. and when you wonder how they can fill up even one tv broadcast, they have a second on one an hour later and another one at 10. just pointless. and in a smaller way, the local weather takes 10 minutes when it could be summed up in 1. why take time to tell us at 10 pm what the weather was like that day? uh, don't we already know. and what's the weather like right now? how about stick your head out a window yourself and find out. alcohol shots are overrated. even if it's tasty, why pay $4 for something you drink in a second? otherwise, why pay money for a drink that makes you cringe? i'm starting to learn that a college education is overrated, or at least getting a non-difficult degree. i may be confusing this thread with a similar rant thread. this thread is overrated.
  7. "what's wrong, George?" "oh, you don't want to know." "then why'd I ask?" baseball itself is underrated. so many people think it's boring and have no idea how many subtle things are going on all the time. Rice Krispies has an underrated deliciousness.
  8. Oh dear. We're going to have to have a little non-violent chat sometime. Sorry man. I just find them boring. stevo, i've got your back for the non-violent chat. just an awful, awful band. nothing kills a party like Hotel California. the Eagles are the rock equivalent of drinking luke-warm water. I'd like to send the Eagles, CCR and Bob Seger to a very far-off place.
  9. "scrappy" players are overrated. barely even understand what the term really means. guitar solos most any action movie Adam Sandler comedies (yet his dramas are underrated) the "artiness" of food presentation. pretty is no excuse for small portions.
  10. what???? he spoke for an entire movement of people with "The Times Are A'Changin". and really, he only has a small handful of songs he sings in that annoying voice. his lyrics are amazing, and i can't think of another singer who's songs have been covered more often. about Forrest Gump, though, I liked the movie better when it was Being There. overrated: the US Postal Service.
  11. is that strike-worthy?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. if Bonds was caught on video with a needle in his arm, he'd just say he never actually pushed down the plunger.
  13. There's Something about Mary--not even a chuckle from me. Forrest Gump--another awful movie. ooh, another adventure, i wonder how it will turn out. the Simpsons--the show hasn't been funny since Conan left, and now it just relies on it's own well-worn cliches. Pizza--it's ok-tasting, but nothing too special. makes me feel sick more often than not. British literature in general--it's all pretty dull and boring, really. admit it. the Ford Mustang--still looks cool and is fast, but it becomes overrated when every other person on the road owns one, too. drunk chicks--sorry, they've never been cool, only annoying as sin. poker on tv--i'm even a serious player, but just don't really care to see it on tv and don't really understand the craze. the Beach Boys--i just don't get it. the singing is kinda nasal and i don't see how "good vibrations" makes the dude some genius lyricist. the beach--i don't understand the popularity of sitting around in the blazing heat and doing nothing all day. it's just boring. volleyball--what's the fun in bruising up your forearms for an hour?
  14. Fielder hitting 4th you're tying up two players, Braun's opportunities to steal, plus Hart won't be slowed down by Fielder with any balls he hits to the gaps. especially with Simmons on the bench, i'm expecting a bit more small-ball play from Yost this year, and having Fielder a spot higher in the lineup I think he's that. or maybe a better question would be, Does hitting Fielder 3rd promote small-ball play?
  15. I do think we have a legit 3B in Hall, but by moving him yet again you risk making a clubhouse leader unhappy about his value to the team and his role on it. I would have preferred signing a 3B and keeping Hall in CF only for that. That he got a one-year contract plus a team option for Cameron is a brilliant move, though. It makes us very flexible going forward on whether LaPorta is ready in a year or he's not. I like the one-year Gagne signing, but the strength of the bullpen is a little scarier to me than it is most people. I'm not as keen on believing a strong bullpen makes up for a (potentially) weak closer. Even then, Mota won't be in a Brewers uniform for long and Torres has thrown an awful lot of innings the past few years. I'm not yet ready to say our bullpen will be an above-average one. Certainly Kendall isn't going to be an All-Star or anything, but he's still an upgrade and I can't figure what else Melvin could have done to fill the spot. The improved defense alone should net another 2-3 wins you'd figure. When you're a Kansas City or a Pittsburgh, a 2-3 win improvement isn't much at all, but when you fought for the division lead the year before, I'd say that's a significant improvement. if none of our extra pitchers are traded before April I can certainly live with. We get ourselves injury insurance, plus at the Break we could use one to address a specific team need should we want to make a trade.
  16. has Eric Clapton ever covered one of his songs, or Elvis just stolen one? although he doesn't strike me as a musician.
  17. in Negril, if you stay at your own hotel, you've still got the option to buy a day pass from one of the all-inclusive resorts. Negril is better safety-wise than places like Kingston, but like aracko said, safety is a big concern in Jamaica. what a lot of people do if there's one or two activities they want to spend the most time doing, they pick a particular Caribbean island that most fits those needs, whether it be relaxing, scuba diving or hiking or whatever. elbobbo, you need a passport for the Bahamas now, need one for anywhere in the area that's not Puerto Rico or the USVIs. And it's June of 09 that you'll need a passport for Mexico and Canada. I work for a travel company that puts out destination reviews from around the world. I suppose I won't post our website in the interest of not pushing my own company on this site, but if anyone wants to PM me, i'll send you the link (no fees to it, btw). we're super-low on Google at this point, so nobody really knows the site exists.
  18. a coworker married a guy with the same last name as her. i kept hoping she'd hyphenate her last name.
  19. extremely passive drivers are bugging me. and why does every single car in North Carolina require 15 feet of room whenever they stop behind a car? at first it was just silly, but now i'm angered by it. also women who hyphenate their last name when they get married, especially if they're both long names. do i really have to say the whole darn thing when I address you?
  20. playing for the Rays makes a ton of sense. he'd be an attraction at the gate, and it's not like if he misses a ton of time this season it's going to hurt their playoff chances or anything. although $8 million seems high. the Rays could offer $20 bucks and they'd probably still be outbidding everyone. Japan has to just be a ploy to try to increase his interest from MLB teams.
  21. but at his age, couldn't you figure that he'll be able to gain some muscle and add 2-3 mph on his pitches to make him harder to hit? at what age do pitchers tend to stop adding speed to their throws?

  24. i was thinking cheap nails of some sort or maybe illegal laborers.
  25. i'm kinda surprised at the thought of definitely keeping Gross. would I take the production-dropoff of a 5th OF/situational PH for some minor-league talent? absolutely. i'd never argue that Kapler is better than Gross, but with Dillon covering the corners, too, i don't see only a minor dropoff in talent. dumping Gross for a nobody doesn't make sense, but there's a value upgrade if we can get Gross for a minor-leaguer with some potential. and then especially with LaPorta playing a corner spot eventually, i don't see that Gross has any significant role in Milwaukee in the future, so lets get something for him while we can.
