  1. skinless chicken strips on a tortilla with some peppercorn ranch, tomatoes and lettuce. it's a typical lunch for me. otherwise i'll flatten out a piece of chicken, then bread and fry it into a schnitzel. then put it on a kaiser roll with some mozzarella cheese and some marinara sauce. it's one awesome sandwich. otherwise you could take the flattened chicken and roll it up with some cheese and slices of ham. or ball up some sticky rice, black beans and tomato, add some cayenne and fry the things.
  2. the thing is about fast food is the workers there are so used to making everything the same way. imagine how many tacos one person has to make per week, and then one guy comes in and wants his a special way. that's not to say no lettuce is particularly difficult, but the request is beyond routine.
  3. i like it when "we" is used to refer to sports teams; i think it shows just how much a fan identifies with the team.
  4. ? this is news to me. I know Stetter was just called up, but do you see Turnbow just being cut?
  5. yeah, enjoyed my weekend hanging out at Navy Pier. listened to the musicians, took a boat ride, saw a cougar, ate some deep-dish pizza...
  6. yeah, i'm sick, too, which is rare. i had to do some long driving, so with my lack of energy, i was having trouble staying awake and stopped to get some of those Red-Bull-type energy drinks, and they were great, really made my cold feel better. guess that wouldn't help a sore throat, though.
  7. yeah, i'm only giving it 30 more games to turn it around before i really start to worry.
  8. sure some people hate the idiosyncracy/cockiness stuff, but it doesn't bother me all that much; it's a great way for a player to market himself. i'd bet the far minority of fans don't like it. look at Sosa, the camera wouldn't show the home-run ball right away, but his stupid hop, and then make a special point to show his idiot finger thing after every home run. i think there's a percentage of people who remember a player not as much for what he did but for how he did it. McEnroe was an awesome tennis player, but what do you remember about him? plus as a Cubs player, you could do pretty much anything to draw an "i hate that guy" from this board (unless you're Brant Brown; i'm a huge fan of his).
  9. my folks just bought a second place around there and seem to like it, about two blocks from the Cardinals stadium and seven miles from Maryvale--if only they cared about sports. they said that area was really growing and getting more expensive because of the stadium, as the city is trying to make the area a lot nicer. they'd probably be up for renting it out for a few months if you wanted.
  10. what gets me is of all the places i've been in North Carolina and surrounding area, you just can't get nachos with jalapenos on them. just not available. what the heck? also, when you get jalapenos on something else, they're not pickled like i always found in Wisconsin, which isn't necessarily a problem, but it makes them darn hot. they're not really nachos anymore, but i often replace the chips with waffle fries and bake the whole thing in the oven. just awesome.
  11. of course we also don't know what Melvin's other options were with Overbay. two plug-in guys and AAA depth even years later might still have been the best deal. i can't imagine the market for a non-power 1st baseman had to be too hot. i can't duplicate the great stats posts before, but the fact that Weeks has his OBP so much higher than his BA to me speaks to how much better he's going to become. Also, didn't Milwaukee immediately see him as a #3 hitter when he came up? he was pretty much pushed into leadoff by necessity, and you have to wonder if his BA would be higher if he was in a different slot, albeit at the cost of his OBP probably.
  12. considering only 30% of first-round picks ever make it, i don't really like to hold any expectations of Weeks just for the fact he was a #2 pick.
  13. Jim makes a great point. it's nice at first to want to do every single thing together with the gf, but there has to be a point later on where you just want to get away from everything, including the gf, and that could very well be a baseball game or even listening to the radio in the garage. every man needs a degree of solitude.
  14. i don't really care if my next gf really likes baseball or not, just that she accepts the fact that i do. i'm a big hiker, and the few girls i've dated, i've taken on overnights. it's not as much to see if they like hiking, too, but to see if they whine and complain about everything (hills, spiders, mice, weather) or if they make the effort to try to enjoy what I enjoy. (i'm totally fine if she freaks out from seeing a mouse, but not to the point of it ruining our trip).
  15. Know-It-Alls. simple work conversation and Lenin's name happens to come up. out of nowhere "oh, you mean Vladimir Ilyich Uluanov?" yes yes, you know his full name. terrific. so do i, but this ain't Jeopardy, you don't get points with anyone just for knowing something.
  16. i don't usually drink coffee at home, but had some whole beans. someone was over and wanted some. so i wrapped the beans in a dish towel, smashed them with a frying pan, and steeped the towel in hot water. yeah, that tends to be the hard way about things. i've been no help.
  17. if you've ever lifeguarded you know the joy of cleaning up vomit and poo. vomit is actually the worst because it floats in the water and spreads out all over. the interesting thing about poo is that the kids will see it and then want to dive to it to get a closer look. i once had the joy of cleaning out a urinal that hadn't been cleaned in 25 years.
  18. i think what people should look for as commonalities should be ones of personality and not necessarily interests. things like a shared sense of humour, easy conversations, spirituality, blah blah blah. the drunk guy sitting behind me in the stands yelling the whole game, sure, we share a love of the Brewers, but i'm sure never gonna be his best friend. i think the same would go here. (i should add that my advice on this subject is similar to a homeless man offering stock tips).
  19. Usual Suspects is a big one. i've seen it a bunch of times so i get it now, but every time i recommend it, the person comes back to me going "ok, so what about....."
  20. if a week into the season we're already talking about how a AAA guy could really help their club, then no, i'm not too worried.
  21. a friend of mine from college, his dad's name is Gay Bars.
  22. i still think Wise is a fine pitcher, just expendable because he needs so much time off between outings. plus what he did wasn't a whole lot different than Gagne's first appearance.
  23. apparently it's "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. i mostly listen to my iPod when i'm working out. that and i thought it'd be funny if i could recite a rap song.
  24. i don't know why we'd want to lock ourselves into a CF for 09 anyway, let alone for Roberts. we're in the perfect position as it is--Cameron could come back, Gwynn could fill the spot or Hart could shift over for LaPorta. so then when you'd think that Roberts might only be marginally better than Gwynn, it makes even less sense.
  25. i tried to read a few threads, but i just had too hard a time with the seventh-power quote boxes and giant photos for a one-line post. but i just can't imagine being like that for 162 games. win and you're going to the WS, lose and the sky is falling. gotta be tough to be so extreme for six full months.
