  1. at least if he played for Minnesota we could still visit him on weekendshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. I only wouldn't trade Hall for Harden because it would sap our already-weak offense, but I don't disagree that sounds about fair. Though I don't think Weeks would be enough to get Harden, I would do that in a second. We've already got the players to cover for second base in Hall and Graffy. Weeks+Inman sounds about right.
  3. That's awesome! Grab that cash, Jimmy! Willie Mays can still walk unassisted, right? That's a $2 million base salary right there.
  4. the Brewers seem to have no interest in playing Braun at third, and it doesn't seem to be long before he'll be up. Even if Braun isn't there, it would make more sense to play Hall at third and put one of our many extra outfielders in his place. Of course Koskie's only going to be with us for a half-season just like Graffy.
  5. Can I officially get my hopes up? kinda makes sense, if everyone else in the division is adding bats, may as well go the other way and build a great rotation. I can't figure who we'd have to give up for a good pitcher, though? It doesn't seem like Villy/Jenkins/TBow would really be close to enough.
  6. Is it cold feet? The GM makes the handshake, changes his mind, and now can do everything possible to make sure the doctors nix his health report.
  7. and it's not like the Pirates really need that closer for their playoff push, so why not get that big hitter instead? I don't say it to mock them, we're not exactly light years ahead ourselves. I think it's a smart move. Plus LaRoche must have been top-dollar since Boston is desperate for a closer, too.
  8. Heck, we've already got four good/decent catchers. we might as well just sign every single FA catcher out there and trade for a few more. Then when other teams' catchers start to get hurt, we'll be standing there with all the power.
  9. get your fingers crossed, everyone......
  10. At first I gasp that we'd be handing him at least $15 million per, but it's not like the market's suddenly going to drop back down next year, so we may as well.... It'll be great to have him, but still, if he's our only big gain this offseason, I fear our better rotation but still-weak hitting will only mean we'll be losing all our games 3-1.
  11. but should we really have to keep a platoon player around to be a defensive sub for a guy who would make near $20 million?
  12. but come on, just imagine how awesome he'd be in all 40 of those games he'd be healthy enough to play in.
  13. Manny wasn't happy? sheesh, what's this guy looking for?
  14. Thing is, for the kind of money that we'd be paying Manny, we should be able to demand the perfect player, but Manny's got his defensive and personality deficiencies. If we're talking trade for a big-time player, I'd sure rather have someone like ARod, who's really not missing anything. I'll worry about his inability in the playoffs when we get there. Plus we'd get to watch him break the HR record in Milwaukee. It's a dream, I know, but at least a good dream.
  15. "(though I like Crawford more as a player, Baldelli probably fits better)" actually I think Crawford fits better. He's a pure leadoff hitter when Baldelli isn't (he doesn't take walks), and we could certainly slip Hall into CF to play Crawford in left. Since both have good contracts, I'd rather offer up another prospect or add in cash and get Crawford. Plus Crawford's not injury-prone. man, I'm just not going to get any work done this week, I'm always on this site and mlb.com to check for the next trade to come down or for the next comedic signing by the Giants.
  16. definitely a good name for Ueck to mess around with. I used to always wish the Brewers would sign Hipolito Pichardo because Ueck would always just repeat his name over and over for an inning and it always cracked me up. Hipolito Pichaaaarrrrrrrdddooooooooo!
  17. I wouldn't cry too much if Villy was traded away, at least not if he's the centerpiece to getting a different leadoff hitter in Milwaukee. oh no, we'd lose a potential #4 starter! boo-hoo (okay, maybe that's a tad harsh). I gagged a little bit at that "Mench in left field" quote. Probably has more to do with trading him, though, actually trying to convince other GM's that he's worthy of starting. Ash: "well, I guess we could trade you Mench, although it'll be tough to lose our starting left fielder." GM: "really? he's going to start for you?" Ash: "oh, totally. Fans are barely going to notice Carlos Lee is gone now that we've got Kevin Mench." GM: "wow, I had no idea. Do you have his stats on hand to show me?" Ash: "stats? uh, um, they're gone." GM: "what? gone?" Ash: "uh, yeah. big fire. all the stats burned up. just take my word for it."
  18. I agree, Dave Bush would make a lot more sense for the D-Rays to target over Villanueva.
  19. Are the D-Rays more interested in trading Crawford or Baldelli? I'd always understood from previous threads that the D-Rays actually liked Baldelli more. Either way, I would make that trade in a heartbeat. He would definitely help us more than a good 5th starter would. Besides, isn't that what we have ZachJack for? I agree with Peavy, though, that trade doesn't really seem ligit. TB could definitely get more for Baldelli.
  20. I'd bet any big-hitting clubhouse-cancer like a Manny or whomever would mark the end of Yost's tenure, not being able to control the team's best hitter. Quevedo and Sanchez were different, because they're easy enough to just cut.
  21. Is Toronto targeting any big-money free agents? Obviously they had the money last year, but maybe could they have neared their spending limit and want to dump a salary like Wells' to make a better FA push?
  22. "Counsell can't be traded until June 1st. So, I don't see any deal involving him." sorry, you're absolutely right. my mistake.
  23. I agree with CBC. It's hard for me to imagine a small-market team trading away one of their top young players in JJ Hardy, but I guess stranger things happen. I've always kind of figured Jenkins would end up in Boston. A good defensive outfielder with a little pop would help to make up for if/when Manny leaves; plus it's $7 over only one year instead of $7/3-4 that no doubt Nixon would demand. Do you think they might want Councell more than Graffy, though? Granted, he's no fearsome hitter anymore, but he would fit back into the top of the order and he's great come playoff time. Maybe I'm reaching, but would Piazza be an option in Boston as Varitek's backup? They might have to move second base in about ten feet so he'd be able to actually throw a runner out, but that dude can still hit.
  24. "The only big FA bat remaining is J.D. Drew, and it seems as though he's heading to Boston. And keep in mind that Melvin said he would spend the $12 million he originally had on the table for Carlos Lee if the right player/scenario were available. It's not like he's just going to spend that money regardless of what's out there. I don't think the Brewers take a chance on someone like Drew who seems to be injured more often than he is not. I think a trade is more likely. For whom I have no clue, but I think it's more likely that the big bat people are hoping the Brewers acquire is a player already on the team that needs to step up, as a few have already guessed." ---------------------------- That's what I meant. Some other team's going to spend big $$ for a Drew or Zito or whoever, might want to dump some current salary, then we sweep in to take some salary off their hands and we get the player we want, without having to give up huge prospects.
  25. The Brewers will be the Wall-Mart of the Winter Meetings.
