  1. Aren't both Tackles free agents after this year? I remember after the Smiths signings someone saying the Packers wouldn't be very active in FA next year because there wouldn't be any cap money for it. If we assume that T is a more important position to sign, it seems more like there wouldn't be money to re-sign Ramsey.

  3. I read people saying a 1st is too much, though I'd imagine it to be more like a 1st and maybe a 5th to out-compete other teams like the Chiefs. And I think it'd be a good addition considering King's injury history and the Packers using nickle and dime a lot. Sure we have more needs on offense, but who says an offense and defense has to be balanced? What looked to be a good defense at least from one week of play would be downright scary with another quality CB on the field.
  4. Speaking of e-bikes, it's illegal to have motorized anything in my campground apart from cars, and a few people I work with are really interested in cracking down on those e-bikes, even though regular road bikes are just fine. I was even asked once why I didn't stop people from using an RC car on the road because it was motorized and technically couldn't be used. There just comes a point when enforcing technicalities goes way overboard. I think that's ridiculous.
  5. I'm imagining pulling over one of those borrowed cars, finding drugs and the driver saying "Uh, that must have been there when the car drove to my house to pick me up." Though I could see borrowed cars working in a big city, isn't that function already being performed by taxis and mass transit?
  6. As long as you've got a wireless thermometer you shouldn't have any problems adjusting temperatures even if it's new.
  7. Same here, I could never blame a guy for leaving a sport which does such tremendous damage to your body. He just got married and has a kid due soon, so I wonder if all of a sudden his future health started mattering a lot more now that he'll have two people relying on him. And even though this current injury wasn't supposed to be a particularly bad one, I can only imagine the sort of mental toll it does to you to be injured pretty much all the time.
  8. I've always seen it that your college Major should be one where the focus is on making money and having a stable career; and the college Minor should be for exploring hobbies and just taking up something you'd enjoy. So if you minor in acting and want to give it a shot after college you'll have had the education but also something to fall back on if it doesn't work out. A big problem I had in undergraduate school is that I wasn't prepared for what the real world and the real aspects of the work would be like. The professors hadn't worked in the field in 20+ years and lived on theory, not practicality. College kids are so idealistic and dream so big, and I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with tamping that down a little bit. I'm a fan of a required 300-level course dedicated to studying the real-life economics and practicalities of the student's chosen career field, as well as required interviews with entry-level type folks in the field. As it is, universities already require a phy-ed course, but you'd think a career course would be more practical.
  9. I used to edit travel guides and it always seemed like being in Montreal during the week of their Grand Prix was pretty much the most exciting place to be on earth. A ton of things to do in that city with an exciting French-English mix. The most "Europe" of any city in North America.
  10. Being benched for some playoff games had to have hurt. Probably worth being slightly less rich in order to be a superstar in a lesser league than a #4 on an NBA team.
  11. Everyone saying "new school". Was he expelled from UW? Had he been kicked off the team? Though either way hopefully this leads to better personal-life coaching of college athletes. If you're a name at all you've got to be extra-careful with what you do.
  12. Ah, thanks for the correction.
  13. The luxury tax penalty goes way up when you go over a second straight year. So maybe at this time next year we'll be happy to have the option of going over for our one last push to hope Giannis stays.
  14. Obviously losing Brogdon hurts the team and it'd be impossible to argue otherwise. But what I saw as the issue against Toronto was that Giannis was getting triple-teamed and Bledsoe was getting double-teamed on his drives and either there weren't available quick kick-outs or they just didn't see them. And I see that as an issue with scheme. Maybe the Bucks don't hit their shots and still lose, but I saw the bigger issue being a lack of created opportunities than hitting the opportunities they had. Granted, Toronto's defense was flawless.
  15. 9:1 corn syrup to borax has been my most effective way of combating ants. You can get the borax as that roach powder in any grocery. Too much borax to the sugar and the ants will know it's poison. I'll just put it in a cereal bowl and stir in some water every couple of days as it dries out.
  16. People always tell me how great it must be to work outside. I tell them that most of the time it is, but ask me again in July and you'll get a different answer. And the heat is only exacerbated when you're working 8-10 days in a row. And it's amazing how many people set out to hike 10 miles in this weather and don't bother to bring a drop of water with them.
  17. I don't think losing Brogdon hurts that bad only because losing to Toronto wasn't a matter of not having enough talent, but scheme and execution. I'm expecting that this entire offseason is being spent designing an offensive system to beat the Giannis Wall. I remember some plays against Toronto where they started having Giannis down in the 3-point corner to try and start his drives from there. Will Korver really have that much of an impact? Offensively he seems to me a mirror image of Tony Snell--strictly a catch-and-shoot player who can knock it down, but only shoots when he's wide open. And Snell didn't light up the box scores.
  18. Traeger I've seen get some positive reviews, but a few years ago they moved their production to China and their reputation has taken a hit for it, some would argue it's quality as well. I don't know much about BGE to say anything substantive. But pellet grill/smoker and charcoal grill/smoker are a good bit different, and which one you prefer really depends on how you like to do things. If you have more time on your hands to be able to tend to heat and smoke levels, nothing beats the flavor of charcoal. Pellet grills are great because you can set the temperature and just walk away until it's done. As for the grill segment of the pellet grill, they don't use direct heat, which of course is where a lot of the flavor comes from. It's really more like an oven. So you can certainly do the usual grilling stuff, but without that direct flame the flavor isn't quite the same. I bought a pellet grill somewhat recently as an upgrade to my charcoal smoker and not having to monitor it is great. I did two pork butts a couple days ago and I was asleep for most of the cooking.
  19. At my old work if it were particularly slow I would take long lunches. At my current place I have two separate people who drive by my house to see if I'm doing so (I don't). I'm getting a new work vehicle soon which has GPS and a little bird told me that I'm going to be monitored. If that turns out to be the case I'm not going to stay here.
  20. Saw Yesterday...uh...yesterday. Enjoyed it. Docduany's comment of "very easy to like" is apt. It fits if you're looking for a movie which everyone in the party would enjoy. But it's 'light' in that the depth isn't there to be worth talking about much longer after you leave the theater. So we've got Queen, Elton John, The Beatles, Motley Crue (or something like them) and now Bruce Springsteen. So I guess as the alternative to superhero movies the singer biopic is what we're going to get a million of?
  21. We've had a Ranger in the Division pull over a bicycle for speeding once.
  22. It seems that the Bucks had the choice to keep basically all but one. If it had to be one guy, Brogdon may well be the one who's best replaced by a DDV/Brown/Hill/Veteran Minimum person than anyone else. Good ability to drive and hit 3s, but we're also not lacking in that regard. We'll miss his FT shooting, though. I mean, if you absolutely had to choose one star to let go, wouldn't most people choose Brogdon? Not to mention Brogdon at least got us back some minor draft picks. Clearly Hill was paid a bunch in large part because of his clutch playoff play. Whatever value they added to that, this only makes re-signing Middleton and his terrific playoff play all the more important to the point where his contract really isn't an overpay at all, regardless of the salary cap stuff. I'm a little bit surprised it wasn't Lopez who they chose to let go. I was curious if they'd choose to move more to a quicker 5 instead of the lumbering Lopez, but I guess they're sticking with the "protect the paint/rebounding" style of defense again next year, not that it didn't work well even through the playoffs. Assuming Boston finds a decent 5 to play for them, they could well be the class of the East next year. I think Tatum/Brown are going to thrive without Kyrie there. Plus Boston won't have Kyrie there to pawn off defensive assignments onto out-of-position teammates like he always did.
  23. I'm getting really tired of the auto-play videos on the CBSSports website, which are on every single page/article you click on. They take a few seconds to load, which means you're halfway through reading the article and then you have to scroll all the way back up to stop the audio.
  24. Job just opened up, with housing, right on the barrier islands along the coast. Very busy but generally not much nonsense happens there. I thought it'd be a little cooler due to the coastal breeze, but a co-worker was just there and said it was hot as blazes. People always say you get used to the heat, but my Wisconsin blood still can't deal with it well. The job rarely comes open, but I don't think I'll apply. Who'd want a job protecting thousands of girls in bikinis, anyway?/s Thinking a lot about the possibility of working toward a superintendent job roughly five years down the road. I don't particularly want the bigger leadership/responsibility/go-to-guy role. But I won't be retiring with a full pension and the extra $1000/mo I can make at the position would be a tremendous benefit.
  25. I agree that DJ Wilson's absence in the playoffs was a mistake. Brook was a little exposed to guarding quick-step bigs on the outside, so maybe next year the Bucks will have a better idea of how to rotate Irsan and DJ in for Brook when the other team goes a bit smaller. I was a little surprised the Bucks didn't instead choose to spend Hill's money on spending more for Brogdon, but the Bucks know more than we do about it. Maybe they thought his foot was a bigger issue and like was said, maybe Brogdon didn't love it here. Who knows. But the draft picks sure help to more quickly finish off these Mirotic/Monroe trades. When Giannis starts to get really pricey we'll be relying on draft guys a lot more. With the luxury tax hitting so hard when you go over it in consecutive years, maybe Milwaukee prefers to hold that possibility of going over until next offseason just so they might better be able to sign a FA friend of Giannis to help convince him to stay. I'm not a fan of the Hill signing, but that topic has been beaten to death here. I think it was a bad move by the Nets to prioritize Kyrie over Russell. Also I'm gonna laugh so hard if the Lakers don't get Kwai Leonard. They'll get to play a full season with 2.5 good players and everyone else on the roster will be a G-League guy. Just as LeBron is reaching peak cockiness he'll be stuck on a mediocre team.
