  1. I'd never heard anything like that before. Thanks for bring it to my attention. I'll have to look into it.
  2. I'm especially sad for the two girls who were so young.
  3. Isn't Swift a programming language? So maybe he programs in his spare time and just didn't understand that maybe other people don't know what that is. That would also tie in pretty well with wanting to work in a library. Or maybe he's into birdwatching, but only very specific birdwatching. All other birds are stupid. I hear rumor that the winning guesser wins a relish tray designed by Hawing herself!
  4. The Packers also don't do any disguising on defense. A veteran QB can see if its zone or man right away and knows where to throw it, and in that way it doesn't matter a ton how talented your DBs are, there's gonna be somebody open. Conversely you look at Tennessee, who has more just ok talent in the backfield, but they do so well because they disguise things properly. A lot of good WRs in the draft, but aren't most all of them downfield-type receivers? Having Adams, we really just need a slot guy, right? So a guy like Metcalf just wouldn't quit fit on the team. But that does make me wonder if there's a really good slot guy available who might fall farther just because it's a possession/short yardage position and not a flashy/big numbers position. Looking forward to watching Jonathan Taylor in the NFL, but I worry some that he'll turn out to be more like an Amir Abdullah type of RB: A guy who has a ton of skill, but ultimately his fumbling problems lead to him never quite being a featured guy.
  5. I guess the one thing the Packers have going for them is that it's tough to beat a team twice in a row. They already played a game where they thought they had the best strategy to beat Kittle and their run game, so this time they'll get to try something else.
  6. Maybe it's just me, but I really haven't seen the Giannis Wall being implemented this year. I was really expecting every team to come out and use that against the Bucks in the regular season. But I guess Detroit and Boston tried that in the playoffs and they got stomped, so maybe it's one of those strategies which only works when you've got Kawai Leonard and other really good defenders on the team. But even if it's a playoffs-only style of defense, Budenholzer undoubtedly spent months of the offseason planning against it.
  7. I saw where you can get a coffee roasting drum that goes on a rotisserie. My toaster oven also goes to 500 degrees. I was thinking of getting it to roast my own coffee beans, but ultimately I only drink coffee once or twice per week, so it all seemed to be too much of a bother. Still, I'm one of those people that if I can make something myself, I'd prefer to. I even made my own deodorant once because most contain aluminum which isn't good for you. I also make my own butt powder to be able to avoid using talc. I don't love love fish, but I've been eating a lot of it lately to lose weight, and it's been great. Simple fish taco with raw cabbage and carrots, or kimchi. Or a bunch of squid tentacles on a salad. If only I could get octopus again like I could in Texas. And mussels is one of those great date dinners every guy should learn to make. It's quick to do so that you're not ignoring your date by spending all your time in the kitchen, and it's an easy dish to prepare yet folks tend to think it's all complicated and fancy.
  8. I only don't drink McDonalds coffee because they have a limit on how much cream they can give you.
  9. I've been liking the Wild Mike's brand of frozen pizza. I still like Jack's, although the dough is crazy thin. Tombstone I never liked their crust. ------ Totally unrelated but I'm doing "sourdough starter" for an interpretive presentation this month. We have a homestead at my park, so I do a lot of homestead-type programs, especially since I don't know anything about trees and plants to do anything on those. I was gonna make sourdough pancakes, since I figured you can't do a sourdough program without actually making something. Then my program was moved to a place with no electricity, which of course means making bread, instead. And I'm finding it's very difficult to make a good loaf of sourdough bread. I also cheated a few days ago and added a small amount of bread yeast to the starter. I figured it wouldn't really make a difference so long as I can still smell the lactose/fermenteds in it.
  10. I'm currently in a waiting room and a lady is on her tablet computer with the sound on for all to have to listen to.
  11. Like George Hill, I think Middleton got most of his contract largely on being clutch in the playoffs. Besides, who's replacing Middleton? Kevin Love? We're still talking about a small-market city that probably most players don't want to be at. Maybe we'd have that ability to make some short-term splash like trading for the next Anthony Davis type player, but then in a year or two he'd be wanting out to go to some big market team. Middleton likes Milwaukee and there's also a value to having some relative permanence with your star players.
  12. Thanks. My big boss found out I interviewed today and apparently thought it would be a good move. I suppose the only reason I'd hesitated is that I was hoping my next park could be something of a retirement park, where I could stay where I was should I decide not to become a Superintendent, and the size of the house isn't one I'd want to stay at another 15 years. But I suppose most likely is I'd get bored and want to move somewhere else in time, either way. At this point I'll take the job if I'm offered it. I don't totally know if I want to be a Superintendent yet, but at the least I'd like to put myself in position to get that promotion should I eventually decide that's what I want to do. Tiny house, yeah, but it's looking like a 2-4 year stint there, which isn't any crazy amount of time. And yeah, no wife or kids, so I'm sure I can manage.
  13. An afghan is made by hand and a blanket is anything else. I didn't realize that was a regional thing. I didn't know "slacks" or "billfold" was regional, either. I always used to call it a Tyme machine, but I forced myself to stop because nobody ever knew what I was talking about. I live in the South now, but someone yesterday was able to guess I'm from Wisconsin. But they said I talked a lot slower than most folks from there. Which is odd because my family always used to say I talked fast even for them. I guess all this hot weather has slowed me down. Including my years in Texas, I've noticed that just how the word "barbecue" is used, as well as just what a barbecue entails, varies a lot by region. And at least in my experience Wisconsin doesn't use the word much at all.
  14. If the Bucks defense played out more and contested 3s more than they currently do, people would only be complaining that their interior defense is weak from letting people get inside to score. A team like Utah can do it, but Lopez ain't Rudy Gobert. The League is getting faster instead of bigger, even Centers are shooting 3s now, and the 3-point line is a huge area to cover. There's no way one could expect the Bucks to play better defense than they are now. Of course if an opponent gets hot from 3 the Bucks could lose, but that's historically true.
  15. I wouldn't mind if Division I were divided into a 1A and 1B. Let the San Diego States of the Division compete against each other. Also, why are there conferences in the first place? Make RPI even more important in the rankings and let teams schedule whoever they want to play. Three non-conference games against nobodies plus three more games against the Conference's worst teams are making college football somewhat boring.
  16. I still call it a davenport now and again. Sometimes I run into people who think that "dethaw" is an odd word to use. My mother used to make us sweet cornbread and we'd put butter and syrup on it. Good. But down here in the South they think that's about the most abominable thing a person could eat.
  17. Just interviewed to work at a different park. Professionally, everything is there: Good working atmosphere, chance to learn the Boss' role to take that job in a few years, more relaxed pace, get along with the boss really well, all that stuff. But toured the Ranger residence and wow that house is SMALL. Not sure the square footage, but my current one is about three times as big. My last one-bedroom apartment was about the same size--it's basically a tiny dining area and a living room the size of a not-master bedroom, with three small bedrooms attached. Initially I didn't have a single hesitation about taking the job. Suddenly the house is a big one, though probably I wouldn't be living in it much more than 2-4 years until a promotion (more $) at a different park or becoming the boss at that one (more $ plus I could swap houses) opens up.
  18. I almost subscribed to Vue because I watch shows from my computer during lunch and then through my playstation in the evening. Vue would have worked well for both. But they worked hard to make sure you never were able to share your subscription with anyone else they way you can with Netflix. $45/mo for just me is just too much money.
  19. Sure he'd make more in basketball contract money with Milwaukee, but overall he'd still make more money in a place like NYC from a bigger shoe contract, commercials, jersey sales, etc. Well, probably. Ultimately we'll never really know his biggest motivations in basketball until he signs his next contract. Whatever comments Giannis makes between now and then are pretty much meaningless since he's never going to intend to hint at anything. But I do fear the media is going to be absolutely filled with articles about it for the rest of the season. But ultimately if he does sign, Giannis has the chance to be the greatest basketball hero in franchise history. Kareem did win a Championship, but he also didn't stay all that long. I see no reason Giannis couldn't top that.
  20. XM Satellite Radio likes to constantly remind you they're a music service that doesn't play ads. I know this because of the frequent ads they play on their stations for themselves.
  21. I'm looking forward to seeing how Budenholzer has planned to attack the Giannis Wall, which I'm expecting to see against Giannis every time he brings it up. I think the key is to have quick shooters race up to get ahead of Giannis to take an outlet pass for 3, but we'll see. And hopefully the Bucks improve their half-court offense this year, which was pretty bland last year. I still think the Hill contract is bad, and I'm not expecting Bender to see many meaningful minutes unless someone is injured. Also expecting Giannis to go about 25% from three on about 2.2 attempts per game for the season.
  22. Plenty of teams who are kinda-good and would take Foles as an upgrade. Cam Newton is owed $20M next year but I don't know how many people view him as a SB QB anymore. And I don't think Indianapolis views Brisette as that, either. And Washington's new management has no loyalty toward Haskins. I haven't seen any analysis of his play, but if Jacksonville is rebuilding, I wonder how they view Minchew, if he's the next great thing or if they think he's more a placeholder for someone better.
  23. Their coach is only 33 years old??? I did wonder during the game if maybe Division I should be trimmed a good bit. Maybe make it like British soccer where if you do well in the Also-Ran league you get bumped up, and last place in the Ran league gets bumped down. You can give me gloves and call me a boxer, but if you pit me against Floyd Mayweather, it wouldn't be boxing. And this wasn't really football.
  24. Dogs off leash in public parks sounds like not a big deal, but can be a big issue. We've had multiple dogs just run away (the coyotes get them eventually), dogs fighting with each other because they're not leashed, and dogs attacking people. But someone complained that a Ranger made them put their "service dog" on a leash. Off leash is still a misdemeanor since we can't change that, but now our policy is that we're supposed to ask the person if it's a service dog, and any 'yes' reply means we don't require a leash. We're also not to question any 'yes' reply. So basically no more leash law.
  25. Adopted nephew turned 11 and of course I missed his birthday. He has a record player and his father listens to electronica-type stuff. So I'm guessing his collection of music isn't too comprehensive, and at 11 maybe this is a good time to introduce him to some. I can only afford three. I'm thinking among these: Willie Nelson--Red Headed Stranger Black Sabbath--Paranoid (I don't recall this being hugely inappropriate for a kid, but maybe I just don't remember) Miles Davis--either Kind of Blue or Birth of the Cool Led Zeppelin--IV Dolly Parton--Joline Johnny Cash--Folsom Prison I lean toward Sabbath, Miles Davis and Johnny Cash. Big albums from three different genres.
