  1. Notsurewhatthatallwasbutitreallyhurtmyeyes. If MLB does something like this, they lost me. DH in one league, not the other, ok. HFA based on the ASG, ok. Instant Replay....ok now I'm concerned. Stupid rules to speed up a game not designed to be on a clock, now I'm more concerned. But institute a rule this stupid, will be tough for me to hang in there as a fan.
  2. I never like definitive statements like this. As it stands today, yea, hard to see him as a starter in MLB. But why not as a UT? Also, MLB is filled with guys who had little power in their younger years, and developed more power in their mid 20s. Dubon can hit, and he can take a walk. All that's really missing is power.
  3. TV today already?!??! Cool, thanks for posting
  4. Maybe, maybe not. But if they don't add one, Wilkerson is another option. And I still give Burnes a 3.6% chance to get the 5th spot out of camp.
  5. Good, not great..... too many needless mistakes. Inning killing and demoralizing. He said he shows promise, meaning good to great play imo. The real crazy thing is the negatives toward Sogard when he obviously gives you more from the bench (steady glove, smart baserunner, contact hitter, walks more than K) than Villar. CC wouldn't even use the 2016 SB leader regularly as a pinch runner last season.... very telling. I think you're putting way too much weight on baserunning. I also think you're putting way too much weight on Sogards hot 6 weeks when he came up. Pretty awful after that. He is steady defensively and can walk, great. Dublin can do that and is even better in the field. You can always find a Sogard at any point of the season.
  6. I'm not a lover or hater of Villar, but to say he didn't have a great season in 2016 is not being honest. (Nor did he say Villar is poised for greatness, but you two can hash that one out.)
  7. They also had a four man rotation for most of September, why change that I guess?
  8. I'm equally high on Erceg. Also, I think Triple will be in most people's Top 5 after a big year and Woodruff/Maverick graduate off the list.
  9. Easiest thing in the world to say Lara's done. He hasn't shown any reason to be optimistic, and he probably is done. But he's too young and talented to close the book on him today. We'll find out soon enough.
  10. Thanks, appreciate it!
  11. Isn't Walker starting at 2B? Or is that Villar and he's your backup? Because Walker isn't signing here to be a backup. Villar would be starter at 2B, or you can call Walker the starter. Makes no difference really, dollars talk. Walker has no job today, and if the Brewers offer the right contract then "Starting 2B" is semantics. He would know going in he'll get 140 starts somewhere between 2B,1B, and 3B. But sure, you can call him the starter and have Villar on the bench.
  12. Voght Walker Maverick ? See how ST goes for the 4th spot
  13. Replace Thames with Aguilar and you have it. Thames is needed on this team either as a starter at 1B (if Santana is traded) or as a great bench bat that can change the outcome late in games. I also, and it pains me to say it, would hold onto Perez because he is so versatile. But Sogard can go. That's my point though. Who cares how versatile Perez is, he would simply no longer be needed. There would already be backups at every position. As far as Thames goes, I rather have Braun at 1B with Walker playing there some. That makes Thames redundant, so he can go too. I was already figuring Aguilar wouldn't be on the roster, so I guess you could say Walker replaces four guys. I think this roster would then be past the times where you need to create starts for guys like Perez and Sogard just to get them action.
  14. This is what occurred to me today: Walker= Sogard, Perez, Thames Think about it, why would you "need" any of those three guys on the roster if you had Walker? You would save two roster spots, and not lose any versatility. All the while, not giving up any of the veteran grittiness. Not predicting this, too late in the game to trade 3 guys to make this work even if they wanted to go this route. And I doubt they do. But this makes so much sense. Plus, it would make my eyes happy to see more solid ABs from yet another spot in the line-up.
  15. Yes, we've had two HOF QBs back to back, but players like him are rare. You let him play as long as possible and enjoy every minute. See Tom Brady. 40+ and winning SBs Yea, I agree it's a logical option to move on. That would be a massive amount of cap space to spend elsewhere, plus have the draft picks. However, not an option I would take. A QB in the NFL is about as important as any position in any sport. You have the best, you roll with it as long as you can.
  16. I've stayed clear of the whole controversy that is Mr. Heat. Now that it (appears) to be done, here's what I think. People spent waaaay too much energy supporting him or tearing him down. Did he have a source? Probably. How good of a source was it? Who knows. But I read his stuff, took it for what it's worth. No different than all the national rumor mongers who are right sometimes, wrong sometimes. That said, I did find his drama queen act sort of amusing. "Some people are questioning me here, I'm done!!" "Ok, I'm back, I will give you people another chance." "Nope, now I'm gone for good again." The, the funniest part. He goes to Twitter because we all know there are no trolls on Twitter. It's like somehow he never heard of the internet. I'm shocked it ended this way. Shocked I tell you!
  17. I approach this from the position that your resources are limited in terms of dollars and high end prospects. If they go out and get Cobb, that's the last move I would make for now. That is a list of good pitchers, but not that dominant ace that some of the other teams have. In fact, some teams have a couple of them. So why play that game of trying to match that with guys that are step or two down the ladder and giving up a massive amount of young talent in the process? Not to mention the money involved. I would open the year with Davies, Anderson, Cobb, Woodruff, Chacin. Guys like Wilkerson in reserve. Then Nelson comes back. Plus, Burnes could come up and really hit the ground running. Not that far-fetched. In the not too distant future you have Peralta, Ortiz, Ponce, Perin, etc. Let's see how all this shakes out before we make a major move. BUT, if/when a major move is made, I would prefer that it made for a major stud. Think Darvish as the floor. If they're really good in August, I would be all for a trade similar to the Greinke trade they made a few years back. I rather have two years of a dominant pitcher than 3 years of a really good pitcher.
  18. I saw an interview with Braun where he said playing 1B isn't an option really to start the year. He made it sound like he's taking some reps there in case of emergency during the season. So, if he's not playing RF and he's not playing 1B that tells me the plan is to keep him in LF? That would mean Yelich in RF and Santana left as the 4th OF. Maybe Braun was just being coy, but that's what he said.
  19. Whatever became of Carlos Luna? In 2015, he dominated DSL as an 18 yr old. Then he went down with an arm injury, last I heard I believe he had TJ. If anyone knows has connections with player development, I would be very interested in knowing his status.
  20. How soon we forget. It wasn't all that long ago that all of you would have laughed if someone made the suggestion the system could make a big jump. There were years in the past where making a big jump would have meant going from 30th best system to 26th. This is a year where you have high upside arms coming back from injury, several high ceiling hitters who had uneven years last year that could break-out, and talented low minors players who could explode. All of that starting with a system that's very good to begin with. You simply couldn't have said that in most years of the Brewers existence.
  21. Exactly. No half measures. It still wouldn't be going "all the way" so what's the point? Let's say you get Cobb AND Arrieta. That's still not getting close to matching the 1/2 at the top of some of the other contenders rotations. Why even try to play that game? If they sign Cobb, now they have a legit rotation. In fact, a legit roster across the board. If August comes around and they're looking strong, you can go get a TOR guy then. They would already be tied long term to Anderson, Chacon, and Cobb with a decision to be made on Nelson/Davies coming up at some point. I just wouldn't want to tie up another big chunk of money for 4-5 years in another 2/3 type starter. We have those and more on the way in the system.
  22. It wasn't working post TJ and he tried to tinker with it but couldn't get it right inseason. Instead of screwing his results he battled with sinkers and curves. He's going to get it back. With Johnson I'd nearly guarantee it. Is there any evidence he got it back at the end of the season? Just asking, because it seems that pitch makes a huge difference for him.
  23. Let's just be done with it. 3 balls/2 strikes and 2 outs per inning. That will speed things up. Wait...the casual fans like fast games but they also want 12-10 games. Let's forget the whole balls/strikes/outs thing and just have a HR hitting contest each night. One hour...done. Just remove all strategy and nuance from the game.
  24. Pretty simple. Playing 1B requires you throw the ball around the diamond between innings, Davis doesn't have the arm to throw grounders to 2B, muchless SS/3B.
  25. As the roster stands today, he's not getting 100-120 starts. If by "games" you mean PH opportunities sure. Just keeping him out of the OF completely should help his wheels.
