  1. This didn't happen in 14 days, this team was built to be sellers all along. Knebel is a controllable late inning guy. He would be a better closer than some of the contenders have, and could easily be the "8th inning guy" for others. I think his value is still pretty high. Thames, Pina, Aguilar have value. They're cheap and controllable. Perez and Sogard have value. Contenders are always looking for a bench guy that can play multiple positions, PH, etc. Swarzak and Hughes could be dealt, reliever market may be down compared to last year, but these guys could still fetch a good return. Garza may not bring back anything, but worth exploring. Guerra, Brain, and Villar likely can't be moved. Then you could get real crazy and look at trading high on Shaw, Santana, and Nelson.
  2. KC still gives me hope. They made it to WS twice, and won it once, without a player like that. This is still the model I want the Brewers to adopt. Really good rotation 1-5, with a couple guys being borderline #1 types. Outstanding bullpen, which should be fairly easy for a small market team to build. Position players? Speed, defense, and more guys with high OPS. With all the OF talent they have, I really want to see three CFs playing out there. Great OF defense, great defense up the middle in the IF. Then all that speed will come in handy on the basepaths too. All of that is more likely to happen than getting a couple aces at the top of the rotation and a couple elite bats. If they build a team like that, still no guarantee of winning it all. But it's the best option I can see.
  3. Ray was thought by many to be elite, even though I didn't believe that. I did have hopes that the ceiling at least for Diaz and Erceg would be elite. I know, that's my fault for having those hopes. Clark, I projected his ceiling to be solid MLB starter. Thanks to Young for all the time and effort, it does really help to see the bigger picture. I have changed my expectations about these A+ guys.
  4. So are the Rockies though. That team is not getting out of the Wild Card round. Just what I was thinking. We should trade Knebel to them.
  5. He went with his "gut" earlier in the inning and Nelson walked the batter on 4-straight (no complaints at all by keeping Nelson in). Perhaps that made him go more by the book? Right. Sometimes things don't work, whether you go by the book or use your gut. I don't think CC made any horrible decisions. Just horrible results, which happens with this Russian roulette bp.
  6. Fielder was .800+ as a 20 yr old in AA. Braun was just under .800 in half a season in BC. That's what studs do. Does hitting .235 in Carolina mean those guts are bad hitters? No. Does batting avg or OPS tell the whole story? No. Every one of those guys still have prospect status. Depends what we're debating I guess, but you very rarely see big time MLB hitters who ever hit .230 in a MiLB season.
  7. Good, one more guy the Brewers cant trade for.
  8. I can't get it out of my head. The thing is he was ready with him, which obviously was good. It was planned out and then Hader flat dominates one of the best hitters in baseball... everything is looking up, Hader has to be jacked up and he's obviously throwing well and then.... nah- give me HUGHES??? Because CC is the 1st manager ever to use match-ups late in games.
  9. And if a ground ball stays down an inch, we're not even having this discussion. Or, Hader stays in gives up the lead, and I guarantee some complain why he was left in to face a RH hitter. So it goes. Barnes has hit arough spot. Hughes has been outstanding, got lit up tonight. If Hader is used more regularly as say 8th inning guy, he will get lit up some nights too.
  10. There's paperwork, physical blah blah blah. It's 2017, get to DC immediately and get that stuff done in the morning. It's not 1933 where you have to wait for t he steam train on the B&O line.
  11. Nor should he have acquired a pen. That would have meant spending big money and/or trade prospects, which would have been foolish. Cheap, rebuilding year team, that was the plan and rightfully so.
  12. We have traded Smith, Thornburg, and Jeffress. Relievers don't just grow on trees. Exactly. Stearns had a great pen last year. Traded all of them, which 90% of you agreed with. This year was rebuilding, not forming a pen to compete for WS. Again, something most agreed with. Now they stumbled into a possible pennant race and it's "Stearns doesn't know how to build a pen??!?" Ridiculous.
  13. Start Barnes with clean inning, and it may have been different. But I agreed with sending Nelson out, just didn't work.
  14. Brewers should have 4 or 5, this is what happens Hader vs Harper, fun stuff
  15. Shaw seems to get a lot of close calls and flat out bad calls.
  16. Is Gruber wearing lipstick in that commercial? Starting to wonder what exactly that "one call" is for.
  17. Gio just toying with Brinson there. You had ball 4 there twice sweet lou
  18. Bleh, would have preferred Wilkerson or a spot start from Hader. Which probably means Blaze will go 6 scoreless.
  19. Can a grown man cry? I will if Espino gets another start.
  20. I agree with you. Something had to have been (or maybe still is) in the works last night. Why else do you send Brinson out there for one half inning (after a rain delay) only to pull him before the bottom of the 1st. If they were simply bringing him up for another right handed bat, they would have already known they were going to do that and wouldn't have done all of that. Likewise, wouldn't they have known about a pending DL stint for Garza (if this is truly a legit injury)? Unless if he literally slipped on a banana peel in the clubhouse after the game last night, it again wouldn't explain why they sent Brinson out there for 1/2 inning. Something is still a little fishy with all of this. Maybe, just maybe they didn't decide to do it until he'd already gone out? That is the most likely scenario, way too much read into him playing one inning. Relax. Relax with telling people to relax. We're fine. It is the trade deadline, and roster moves have been made in ways that are not typical. How many roster moves have they had this year? 6,782? Have they ever pulled a player out of a game to make a move? I don't think so. Garza didn't pitch last night. He realized in the locker room after the game he was injured? And don't announce it until now? Nothing unusual about any of this. Either way, we are perfectly relaxed.
