  1. There's been lots of speculation, so I'm sure this did get funny at times. But I don't think it has been over the top. Nobody (I don't think) has guaranteed X is going to happen, or Brinson is being traded, etc. Just people throwing out ideas of what all this could mean. Brinson gets removed in the 1st inning, Brewers are talking to various teams about a trade, and they wait for 3 hours before game time to announce Garza to DL. All those things are true, so it's fair for all of us to speculate what it could mean. In fact, I still don't believe it's as simple as Brinson up, Garza to DL. They could have announced that long ago. I would bet $5 (I'm cheap) that a trade was or still is in the works, or even fell through. If it got done, they were set with a plan. Since it didn't (at least not yet) plan B was Garza to DL.
  2. Brinson sitting on a jetway somewhere and just got the news he's been traded to the Cardinals:
  3. Yes, 9 pages debating those facts.
  4. No different than a couple posters that come to mind.
  5. Yet another theory. Maybe one of Braun's injuries flared up, and they realized after the game he may be sitting for a while again? That would actually make perfect sense too.
  6. Considering the timing, after the Brewers game was completed, is a failed drug test possible? I'm guessing the results are not immediate, but possible they were informed after the game about a failed test from a previous day? Not trying to start rumors or anything, as I'm not saying I think this is the case. Just throwing out another possible explanation. More likely someone is being traded today, or Phillips goes back down.
  7. I'm higher on Cordell than most, so I dont like this. But I do get it. If this same trade was for Wren I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought.
  8. Next trade coming, Michael Reed for Chris Narveson
  9. Someone might want to tell the FSN crew there's been a trade.
  10. Yup, just looked it up. Brewers avg 9,654 runs in Davies starts.
  11. Just trading guys he doesn't have room for on the 40 next year, and getting whatever he can. Cooper and Cordell fit that profile. Very likely Rule 5 picks.
  12. I would trade all three for Gray straight up and not think about it much. Braun has negative value, Broxton is meh, and Brinson is one prospect. If you don't even want Gray just flip him right away and you will look brilliant. Braun's negative value cancels out any positive Broxton value and likely starts eating away at Brinson's positive value. Yea, I realize Braun would have to approve it, so this is more for fun. And Brewers would need to eat a year of the contract, that would make it closer. Just interesting Braun's name hasn't been mentioned once in public, or here. So that probably means this is the time he DOES actually get traded. But no, it won't be the As.
  13. How about all the Brrrrs (Brinson, Broxton, Braun) for Gray and one their top 5 pitching prospects?
  14. Ray at #2 is a surprise. But the #2 spot is pretty wide open, around 10 guys that are one hot month away from claiming it.
  15. His high A season sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of his minor league stats. Sub 800 ops, look it up. Very important, Braun put up sub- .800 HALF season in A+. And that was still .784. For the entire season he hit .871. While that may be lower than his other seasons, I would hardly call that struggling.
  16. Bottom line, people who have an axe to grind with Stearns will always find a reason he's to blame. Even if they traded for Gray and don't make the playoffs, the reason will be he didn't do it soon enough, or get Quintana instead. If they got Quintana during All-Star week and didn't make the playoffs, reason will be they should have added more talent at the start of the season. All of this is ignoring the fact winning the WS this season was not the goal. Before anyone says it, no, that doesn't mean the players they have aren't trying to win. What it DOES mean is this season, like last, is to identify players who may be part of a true contending team. So they exceed expectations over half a season, now you hear "if only Stearns would have added another SP at the start of the season" or another BP arm or two. Stearns is no different than any GM, there will always be some who will never be on board.
  17. You can't have it both ways. Your initial post talks about how they're all hitting in the .230s and strike out a lot, now you say trade them when value is high. If they're so bad, how can their value be so high? Or maybe you think GMs look at BA prospect list when determining player value? With one or two of those guys, we're likely seeing their floor. One or two others, they may never improve much. Which ones are they? I'm sure the player development people have an idea, but simple answer is nobody knows for sure. So the risk is you trade away the guy that ends up being an All-Star. That's not to say you never trade top prospects, and I don't think anyone has said that.
  18. Semi-annual reminder that a big reason for trading him was to clear room for Santana, who is younger and out-performing Davis. Would have been great to wait a year, but they didn't have that luxury.
  19. I've been on record wanting to deal Knebel, but also don't know enough about Snell. If they can get a Thornburg type of return, absolutely I make that deal. With emphasis on pitching, of course.
  20. If the players on this team are that emotionally fragile, then Stearns shouldn't be a buyer. Because these guys will never handle the pressure of a pennant race if they are so shook up over not getting Sonny Gray. Not to mention, how in the world do you know what the A's are asking for? Have you noticed nobody else has traded for him yet? And you know Stearns isn't targeting a different starter instead right? (Hopefully not.) Finally, maybe the message should be "You guy aren't good enough." But you never know, prove everyone wrong. When they started the season did they really believe they were WS contenders? No. Did they mope and not try hard, emotionally damaged? No.
  21. I feel like I'm reading talk radio. Is that possible?
