  1. Two full pages and no Shawshank? I can't let that go on any longer.
  2. He does not. He SHOULD, but he does not. This is a good example of market inefficiency, a guy like Aguilar who was blocked but has value. Not saying Cooper is Aguilar, but he fits the mold of a guy who can hit and have positive WAR for someone and cost very little for multiple years.
  3. Straying OT, but it wouldn't surprise me if he starts the season next year in the rotation. There will likely be two spots available (Garza, Guerra) and even Davies is on shaky ground. Lots of ifs/ands/buts surrounding this, but Burnes and/or Woodruff could very easily be in the rotation next year from the get-go.
  4. I'll take the easy way out, and say there's simply no way of knowing who will be needed from the system. Most common names I see here are Wang, Woodruff, and Burnes. Wang- IF Suter goes back to the pen they would already have 2 lefties, so they may not want to add Wang. But probably better than 50/50 chance he comes up at some point due to injury/ineffectiveness. Woodruff- By the time he's done with rehab, getting ramped up again, etc. it may be deep into August. Do you want to add him to the rotation at that point? Maybe, it all depends on how the back end of the rotation is performing. Once Anderson is back, you still have Guerra or Suter in the 5th spot, so this is really undecided. Burnes- We don't know his innings limit. I can't imagine they add him to the rotation and have him pitching into October. They would either need to shut him down now for a while, or add him to the pen. I don't think they'll mess with him like that. However, it would make perfect sense to bring him up to the pen when the roster expands.
  5. Samardzija for Braun. That was easy.
  6. Yea, they already want to use Hader like that. Long relief isn't sexy early in the year, but down the stretch it's big to preserve the pen. If a starter is rolling, go with it. If not, no need to be reluctant to go to the pen early if you have a couple really good pitchers that can give you 3 or 4.
  7. It's not a mystery. Stearns wants the best talent he can get in a trade, the draft, or the street corner. Does he care what glove they have? He does not. As turbo said, if he was interested in trade value he would lean towards pitchers a lot more than he has.
  8. Unknown can be Hader and Hughes. Very quietly, Hughes has been the best guy out of the pen in over a month now. Plus a couple viable options they can bring up.
  9. Yes, countless examples where the best team didn't win. But can't think of a case where the "worst" team won it all. I'm sure it's happened, but it's got be extremely rare. That doesn't mean you just give up, but I wouldn't trade away top prospects. If this team is magical enough to beat (for example) the Nats, Dodgers, and Astros to win the WS, then they're magical enough to do that with Quintana. I get why some of you really want to go for it this year, and I don't think you're wrong. Or that I'm right. Just a preference, and difference of opinion on how to deal with this unforeseen situation we're in.
  10. All of them or none of them could become special MLB players, or even place-holders. But that's why you need as much talent as possible in the system, because you just don't know how many pan out, and who may be special. I'm not a big Ray fan, but that's not to say he can't break out. I want to keep all of them and see how they develop. There will be a point in this process where a deal like this makes sense, puts them over the top. All this trade would do this year is make them marginally better, but still not as good as the big dogs.
  11. This team is on track to be the next Houston. One sure way to blow up that trajectory? Trade 3 top prospects for a good, not great, LHP. Make that move, and it improves odds for this year, sure. But it still doesn't make them as good as the Dodgers or Nats. Not to mention Houston if they made it that far. So with or without Quintana, winning the WS this year would require a likely upse t in three series. I will enjoy this improbable ride as long as it lasts, but wait for a year when a big trade actually puts them over the top. Similar to what KC did, and the Cubs with Chapman last year.
  12. Yes!! All the players suck and CC is stupid, apparently, but 5 1/2 game lead!!
  13. Judging from the crickets, guessing this is not a viable option?
  14. Angel Ventura though.
  15. If teams were smart, Cooper would have a lot more value. Blocked at 1b just like Aguilar was. Ray, Cooper, Wren, Cordell would be a really nice haul. Other than Ray, not top prospects but solid players.
  16. For those interested. 7 1/3 from Suter tomorrow gets him to 50 innings. Fingers crossed.
  17. Agree. Loved watching them continue to be locked in every AB, even after the grand slam. You rarely see that.
  18. Too bad this one was already chalked up as a loss because they didn't deserve a win.
  19. Ian Happ, at 20yrs old and 1.4yrs young for level in A ball, slashed 241/315/763 in almost 40 games then after the following season hit 236 with 778 OPS in the AZFL against top competition. I'll use Diaz for example this year, I'm not going to say he's disappointing when he's hitting in a tough environment and had a 21 game stretch (June) that was really, really bad. Outside of that stretch he's hitting 263/343/812 as a 2b being 1.5yrs young for level. It's about development. A player's numbers can say 100/200/300 but they could be consistently having good ABs and that doesn't show up in the box scores. That's what matters most in the minors. Sure, but thats not my point. Look at every bat the Brewers have traded for the last couple years. Big numbers. When you have competition for these pitchers, slash lines matter. Again, not the whole story, but a factor.
  20. I don't think top 100 lists mean anything, but stats do. A lot of our top prospects have mediocre numbers at best. That's not the whole story for any prospect, but it factors in. Santana, Phillips, Brinson, Diaz, Dubon, etc. all had big time production when we traded for them. Nothing sexy about a .235 hitter.
  21. Not a CPA here, but couldn't they "account" for the 2019 and 2020 seasons this year on the books, yet not actually pay Braun? With the salary so low this year, just add $36MM to the books this year, basically as pre-paid salary or whatever you want to call it. Then Braun is essentially "free" the last two years. That would also make it easier to part ways before the 4 years are up, if that becomes necessary.
  22. Pump the brakes. Don't get too excited by these click bait stories, there will be many more to come. We don't even know if it's true. Are the Brewers looking into all options though? Probably, yes. Why wouldn't they? Stearns always has and always will be looking at any options that are out there to help the team short term and long term. But that's a far cry from trying hard to get a deal done for one of those guys.
  23. Cordell is the one on DL. Cooper has not been called up.
