  1. It is different than bobble heads because I'm sure they still make a profit on $1 hot dogs. I can go to Pick N Save right now and buy an 8 pack of hot dog buns and an 8 pack of hot dogs for $5-$6. If I turn around and sell them for a dollar each I'd still make a profit, albeit a small one. But surely the people who sell concessions get a much better deal because they buy in bulk. True, but it's still a loss leader because x number of people are buying a $1 hot dog instead of more expensive (larger margin) items. And, there is labor costs, napkins, condiments, cost to cook all those weiners, etc. So no, there's no profit on a $1 hot dog.
  2. Based on what I've observed, the people who can least afford it are the ones buying 10 beers at a game. You see the same thing at Lambeau. And, it's the same people buying lottery tickets and cigarettes. Could go on and on. Just poor decision making when it comes to money. Many people than CAN afford it realize how crazy the prices are and won't pay it. I will buy A beer, may or may not buy a snack or a hot dog. That's it.
  3. You never know. Making a small profit off of something is better than making a large profit off of nothing. There was a franchise that just recently announced a huge cut in concession prices. I can't remember who exactly, or even what league, but it will be interesting to follow them to see how they are doing profit wise. The concept of $1 hot dog day is to sell tickets, it has nothing to do with making a profit on hot dogs. It's called a loss leader. No different than bobble head days.
  4. He's that good. Haha, true. But I don't like the precedent. Next thing you know Suter will be listed 1-10 on someone's ballot.
  5. It's because 162 games isn't a large enough sample to "even out" these numbers. If the season was 10,000 games the Brewers would have been 5,000-5,000. Probably a tad below that due to below avg defense. But since the season consists of only 162 unique "events" the W/L record can be skewed quite a bit.
  6. They shouldn't have teased it. Virtually everyone I talked to about this thought it was going to be a Lambeau Field, new Bucks Arena type of mini-entertainment area with restaurants, hotel, bars, etc. Brewers made too big of a deal about it, and now everyone is disappointed. As for me personally, I buy very little at concession stands so I really don't care about any of this. Money would be better spent investing in a AAA team or more/better pitching scouts and minor league pitching instructors.
  7. To take it one step further, it's not just LH bats, it's all the ABs from various guys being test driven, or fill-ins, etc. I came up with 1,307 PA from players who will not be on the roster next season. (Lucroy, Rivera and Hill not included) That is over 300 full games played by the likes of Pressley, Flores, Elmore, Wilkins, Walsh, etc. Think about that. That is the equivalent of having two horrible hitters in almost every game. So the answer is better hitters, RH or LH, and results vs RHP will improve.
  8. It's just not an issue yet. First step is getting everyone through ST healthy, and I would say that's roughly a 50/50 chance. Also, someone COULD be traded in the off-season, but probably as an addition to a Braun trade. I can't see getting any value back for any of our SP at this point. Assuming all 6 are still with the team, and healthy, Anderson is the odd man out. He goes to BP or AAA to get some starts. Then, depends when Hader is ready. Timing on that may partially depend on injury and/or bad pitching by a couple of the current starters. But I see him coming up mid-seasonish one way or another. Finally, there's the trade deadline where one of these guys can be dealt. If that happens, maybe Woodruff gets called up if he's having a good year. that's pretty much how I see all of this shaking out.
  9. I have no problem keeping Sedar, but move him to 1B. Every 3B coach makes mistakes, but Sedar is over the top every season. We're not talking about 50/50 plays, it's how often someone is out by at least several steps. That is not aggressive, it is stupid.
  10. That would be very aggressive for Ortiz, I would be shocked if he's up at all in 2017, other than maybe a token start at the end of the season or something. What about Hader?
  11. I see 2017 as a continuation of the 2016 season. They need the young pitchers catch up to where they are with position players at the MLB level. That's why trading any of Garza, Nelson, Anderson, Guerra, Peralta doesn't seem very likely. You "need" those guys for another year to eat innings, until Hader and maybe even Woody arrives. Injuries happen, poor performance happens, so you really need 7-8 starting pitchers anyhow. Plus, I can't imagine getting anything worthwhile back for any of those SP. 2017 is also about further evaluating what we have in Villar, Broxton, Santana, and Arcia. If they all have really good seasons the line-up is halfway done. Throw in Brinson if he comes up and produces, and we're really getting closer. A line-up where all 3 of those guys are plus defenders and all have speed, OBP, some pop. Record? No idea. But 2017 will be the first season we'll know how close this team is to being a true contender. As always, most of that will depend on what happens with the SP.
  12. What if I told you I would still rather rebuild then squeak in as WC this year, get killed in the playoffs, and delay the process of becoming a legitimate contender another three years.
  13. Nice!!!! Lost in the shuffle I guess, could have sworn I read somewhere Rockies signed a deal with them. This makes things much more acceptable. Quite frankly, CS sucks, but there really weren't any viable options this year. So it's easier to live with that one. BTW, I like Mudcats, great MiLB name.
  14. They would, most? Yes, most. I have talked to countless fans over the year. Hard core and casual, men and women, young and old. MOST say pretty much the same thing. Love him as a player, but personally not much attachment. It is what it is. I'm not saying he isn't a very popular player, and the fan base is generally behind him. But you used the term "lovable," and that doesn't describe his relationship with MOST fans. Greinke was the same story, by the way.
  15. Well....yea I gave examples that fans really love. That was your original point, how Braun is the most beloved player since Yount. The question wasn't who is the best player, or who had a longer stay in Milw. Anyhow, no sense debating it any longer as it's one of those things that can never be proven. I'll just leave at this. Most people would agree there has never been this deep love for Ryan Braun.
  16. Never said anyone had a "beef with him." He was just not ever really likeable as a person. In general, I don't think people thought he was a jerk or anything, just always has come off as being a little smug. That's not to say fans didn't like him, and a whole lot of fans still do. He just never had that personal connection to casual fans like the names I mentioned above.
  17. Fielder, Lucroy, Y Betancourt, Hart, TPlush, Sabathia, Sexson, Burnitz. Just off the top of my head. He may be the most beloved by YOU, and that's fine. But talk to people about Braun over the years, and people really didn't "love" him even before the PED thing. The that happened, and he really lost his luster to a lot of fans. Look at his (likely) last AB at Miller Park. It wasn't a crazy loud or long tribute by the fans, like at all. Casual fans I talk to just kind of shrug off a trade, they don't seem to be bothered by it. We're talking about a future HOF player, and most fans really don't care if he's traded, which should tell us something. None of that has anything to do with whether he should be traded or not, just giving you examples of players that fans really loved.
  18. It would be unwise to trade the face of our franchise, the most beloved player since Robin Yount, for two guys who you hope Stearns can flip. The flip talk drives me crazy. It isn't as easy as most think to "flip" other players. I hope Braun stays a Brewer, but is seems to me like we are going to have that idiot Puig on our opening day roster one way or another. Wait, Braun is the most beloved player since Yount? Not even close. Even if that was true, has nothing to do with building a perennial contender. I don't see anyone advocating trading Braun for the sole or even primary reason as a salary dump. You need a top pitching prospect in return, period. Whatever other parts come along with that deal, so be it.
  19. Don't get me started on the obscene pay and benefits package available for BF.net moderators.
  20. Yes. In fact racking my brain for who #2 would even be.
  21. Knock it off already. You are not speaking from experience, you are speaking from ignorance. I will no longer be commenting on the subject, for fear of this getting out of hand... No, I'm speaking from experience actually. Having children in various public schools in the Milwaukee area, then the Fox Valley. My wife taught in public schools, then was a substitute for years in various districts. Still have close friends and family members who are public school teachers. So yea, I'm qualified. With that said my "jaded teachers" was not directed at you, I apologize if you took it that way. I agree on dropping the subject. In fact, I did when a Mod asked us to do so. But then another Mod commented after that, so I figured the topic was still open as long as we keep it civil. Not sure that will be possible though.
  22. Proposal for Clancy. If Suter picks up the win in this start, he graduates from the Tops 25?
  23. Pretty hard to do that at Miller Park. Nowhere to move them back. Plus that isn't expensive. Well, that's the expensive part. You create the room. Basically, you reconfigure that area of the stadium, allowing walls to be pushed back (or raised in certain areas.) Could involve pushing Fridays back, adding more seats in LC/RC fields. Lots of things they can do back there.
