  1. Woodruff continues winning over hearts and minds. But Bickford, another bad (partial) outing.
  2. Not sure what you mean - I don't think the Brewers' price tag will go down at all during the off season. If anything, it would go up, right? Plus, the Dodgers could really use Braun NOW, in the middle of a tight pennant race and for the postseason. I explained this in my first paragraph of the post. The Dodgers can go out and sign a FA in the off-season, giving up ZERO prospects in return. So why would they give up four prospects for Braun? As you said, if they want a big bat NOW, yes that's a different story. I just have a feeling (with no evidence) Mark A is directly involved here. He most likely wants a huge haul because he really doesn't want to let Braun go. I just don't think that's realistic when there's limited (if any) competition for him.
  3. I think we're missing the obvious. Yes, Braun's contract isn't bad. But if the Dodgers want a bat, why not sign a FA in the off-season and not have to give up any prospects? I see comments about how the Dodgers should be giving up four prospects for Braun, when they could wait until the off-season and give up nothing. Plus the fact, Dodgers aren't competing against anyone for Braun's services. That's why we need to be realistic. Braun for DeLeon would be great. If you insist on one more really good prospect from the low minors, ok. But anything more than that is a pipe dream in my opinion.
  4. I'm not greedy. DeLeon straight up for Braun, I would be thrilled.
  5. DeLeon for Braun, get it done
  6. Credit where credit is due. Burgos with a great start.
  7. Agreed, and I was just thinking Erceg is catching up to Diaz on my excitement list.
  8. ...can both cause and reverse global warming in one swing of his bat.
  9. Wow, did not realize Biloxi attendance was so bad! And yea, Iowa City is way too small for AAA.
  10. Looking back at past #5 picks is in no way predictive of what kind of player Ray will be, the only conclusion to be drawn from such an exercise is that it's probably best to wait and see what happens before making any definitive judgements. Yet, the fact that he was the #5 overall pick (& an advanced college bat at that) will be brought up relative to his performance & expectations thereof for the rest of his minor (& hopefully major) league career(s). Well I agree with that. There are and should be expectations that go along with being the #5 overall pick.
  11. Yea, and if finishes the season at a good clip, why not let him start in CF next season. Even with his highs and lows, I still have more faith in him than a Reed or Wren...or Flores. Only guy to push him will be Brinson. And we'll learn a lot about Mark A's patience with rebuilding based on what he does with Brinson and Hader to start the season. Bringing up Arcia this early is one thing, but if Brinson and Hader start the season in Milwaukee we'll know Mark A is trying to accelerate the clock on the rebuild. (Ok, I know most of that was OT, but I thought of it while I was typing, so just went with it.)
  12. I don't see how we can draw any conclusions in looking back at former #5 picks. Some were great players, some were busts. How is that in any way predictive of what kind of player Ray will be?
  13. We don't know if Arcia starts next season in AAA. There's still over a month to go in the season, and that will determine where Arcia starts next year. Broxton was a bum, then suddenly a BF.net favorite. Arcia is capable of figuring some things out and finishing the year strong.
  14. Right, if you're switching from DTV to cable it will be less. For the first year or two- depending on the promotion. But then it will revert to their standard rates which will be roughly the same (my guess is a little more) than the cost for DTV. Not saying it's still not worth it, as long as you understand the cable rates are promotional rates for only the first year or two.
  15. Broxton has cooled off again the last few games. Jury is still out if he'll ever be more than a AAAA player. Sure, I would still put my money on him over Rogers though.
  16. Yea, it's why Kirk keeps getting starts. Without him and Scoot you have a full RH lineup. But that's ok with me for next season. It does show how important it is for a couple of the top LH prospects come through. Perez walk rate has improved, he will never walk a ton but if he improves it a little more it would be great. Optimistic about him for sure.
  17. Woody and Bickford with nice bounce-back outings tonight. Also, should be very interesting to see placements for all the OF next year.
  18. Do you really pay way more than cable? Seems like they're all the same. They will offer promotional rates for new customers that usually last the first year (sometimes two) then they convert to the standard rates. So there's really no way to escape the high rates unless you're willing to change every year. I have been with TWC forever. Costs way too much, but I have heard and seen first hand how easily satellite TV's signal goes out. With my luck, feed would be dropped during the 7th game of the Brewers World Series or something.
  19. May as well DFA him, I can't see a way he makes the 40 man for next season anyhow.
  20. Thanks, that's interesting. I guess if he's having issues hitting his spot with the slider, probably a good idea for him to throw a lot of them. He needs to master that pitch. If he's going to be a MLB starting pitcher, he can't just blow FBs by people all day.
  21. Occam's razor Yes, my cell phone auto-corrected to Hakim for some reason. Also, as far as how many millions Yount earned in his career, and has earned since then, it's irrelevant. Has nothing to do with how much money is spent, which is a conversation I seem to have a lot on the home front ; ) There are several studies on the large percentage of lottery winners that are broke within a year or two. Lots of ways to blow through cash. If I had my guess, I would bet he's not broke but isn't in the greatest financial position, and needs some cash. Yes, lots of former players don't have a shrine to themselves. But I can't think of any that have sold very meaningful items unless they "had" to sell them. Selling random balls, uniforms, etc. is housecleaning. But other items with more significance? If it's not about money, why not donate them to the Brewers, the MLB HOF, etc.?
  22. Still low amount of Ks for Ortiz, not end of the world for AA at his age, but it's worth noting. Also, this TRats line-up is something. Would love to see the turn it to 11 here at the end of the season.
  23. It's more than an endorsement deal. He has, or at least had financial interest. That was just an example though, no idea if he has had other investments, but he wouldn't be the first former athlete to find himself in financial problems due to bad investments. Simply using Hakim's Razor here for selling off these items.
  24. I still like Kissimmee, only because that would be ready next year. Didn't they say 2019 for Fayetteville? That would just mean another affiliate bouncing around for the next 3 years. As long as Kissimmee would be more of a neutral park, that means more to me than anything else.
  25. Not sure if they're still making it or not. But even if they are, he could be losing a lot of money keeping it afloat.
