  1. I get where you're going with this, but it doesn't work that way. What if nobody is ready to pull the trigger at that deadline? Also, not the reputation you want as a GM, throwing ultimatums around. I get the sense some people think Stearns is holding out for the "perfect" deal, and that's not the case. It's just too early, and yes it makes everyone (including us) anxious. But this is a huge trade chip, and you don't want to cash that in for a mediocre deal just to get it done.
  2. Guerra's value has nothing to do with salary. Contending teams don't care what they have to pay a guy for a month. Issue is track record. Very doubtful someone gives up a good prospect for the unknown. You see the same thing with relievers. It's why the Cards traded for a mediocre Bronson last year for example. Better off signing Guerra cheap for another year. Can always flip him next year if he's still effective.
  3. I was positive the TV crew said tonight that both Diplan and Peralta were promoted, but I've been unable to find anything on Diplan, Ereckison didn't mention it in the post game interview either. For the record I'm not in favor of promoting Diplan this season given the current status of his control and command. They already pushed Medeiros up before I feel he was ready and I'd rather they not push Diplan up simply because his ERA and peripherals are nice and shiny. I'd much rather Diplan works on his control where he can have success without it in WI and be promoted next year, then if he struggles so be it. Contrary to what some people here claim, the Brewers have actually been pretty aggressive in their assignments and promotions. Most of the top prospects are young for the level they're playing at. Arcia, Nottingham, Medeiros, Isan Diaz, Peralta and others. Plus the aggressive assignment of Ray to BC. I don't know much, but seems that pitchers should be more complete before they advance to BC. Medeiros should have started in Appleton, I agree with that.
  4. Ponce, wow. Really great to see a top prospect other than Diplan dominate like that, it's been a while. Also, Tyrone Taylor keeps hitting, great to see he was able to mentally deal with a horrible start of the season and turn it around.
  5. Finally watched the game. Initial thoughts on Maker, he's not the twig everyone says he is. Sure, he needs to add muscle but he already has more than I thought. He can handle the ball better than Giannis at this stage, and his jumper is pretty smooth. Just a long, athletic guy with plenty to work with. Broxton looks like a tweener, which isn't a killer in today's NBA. But he will need to hit his 3s to be an NBA player. I agree Vaughn doesn't impress me. I don't like his game. And if he's supposed to be a shooter, he misses wildly way too often. Hes young, anyone can improve, but I don't see much to like yet.
  6. Yes, it does really depend on equipment. I have a Primo ceramic, and temp control is never an issue. Stick smokers, kettles, drums, they all work differently.
  7. Trying beef ribs for the first time today. Look and smell great so far, so crossed fingers they'll be good.
  8. Telly was a great pick up, especially for the price. Delly fits because of the D, and he is much better shooter off the ball, which he'll be with Giannis basically playing PG.
  9. Just put my brisket on. Not sure what side is what, a beer or eight in me.
  10. Tyrone Taylor slowly and quietly has been heating up, at least showing there's still a little life in his prospect status. Still young for AA, so there's a ray of hope. Also, predicting Diplan shoots all the way up to top 5 status in our next poll.
  11. And so it has begun. Someone had to start it off, hopefully Stearns will be a busy man in July.
  12. From the "in case you missed it, or care" department, Inglis and O'Bryant waived.
  13. 8 walks in a row?? EIGHT. Also during those 8 PA: 3 WP, 1 PB, and an E. Oh yea, that's only part of the inning. Let that sink in a minute.
  14. Great Q&A Mass, very helpful! Q: When can a Major League and Minor League club who are parties to an agreement renew that agreement? A: The parties can agree to extend a PDC at any time during its term. Does this mean a team can essentially lock in an agreement for 4 years? Sign the agreement for 2 years, but it can be renewed any time. So renew it one day into the contract to gain another two years? Also, assuming that moving to a new city doesn't have any effect? For example, Manatees moving out of Brevard doesn't mean they have to wait until Sept to renew PDC with the Brewers correct? Manatees just choosing to wait to see what the other options are?
  15. Yea, depending on how things shake out I could see bringing both Reed and Wren up. Not worried about the 40. Wilkins, Goforth, Cravy...there's a few guys they could take off. But Santana will be back from DL too. So sending Broxton back down evens that out. But then you need to do something with Kirk and/or Flores to make room for Wren/Reed. It's not like there's a deadline for any of this, so it will probably work itself out naturally. But if this season is about the future, Reed/Wren should get a look for half a season if Kirk and Flores got that chance.
  16. Walsh had his chance. Should he have had more opportunity? Maybe, but when you're a fringy player you have to make the most of the chances you get, he didn't. Does not matter that Elmore has no power, it's a short term fix and all he needs to do is PH. If he's clutch in that role maybe he hangs around for a while. Not that I think this is ever a reason for adding a player to the 25, but at least it shows future players that the Brewers are willing to promote these AAAA guys when they produce in AAA, and at least give them some time in the Show.
  17. Elmore can play anywhere, plus having a contact hitter to use as a PH isn't a bad thing.
  18. Yes and no. Not anyone is better. Boyer, Torres, Marinez are all about the same guy as Blazek. With that said, managers always shy away from using the hot hand in the BP. Blazek started the year as the "8th inning guy" so good luck changing that. I get you can't keep changing it around every series, you need some consistency. But when a guy is really struggling like Blazek, quit trying to force him into a role he can't handle. Torres has been pitching well, let him take the 8th if Thornburg isn't available, at least for the time being.
  19. I believe if a starter is hurt or traded we'll see Peralta, Burgos, or Suter.
  20. Yea, that's what I always do as well. If our share is $52, I'll throw $60 out there. Most of the time people will throw a few dollars back at me, but if they don't I'm cool with that. What irritates me about the situation I outlined earlier is people not following the social norm. When it's clear you spend far more on the tab than others, you make a gesture to make up for that. Then the other person can accept the gesture or not. It's really more about that than the money itself.
  21. Wrigley Field is 10 times worse than MP. "Fans" are constantly standing in the aisles, in the row of seats, etc. taking selfies and pictures of each other. Constantly moving around, and generally being annoying. Mostly because a lot of those people aren't Cubs fans or baseball fans at all, just there so they can post pics on social media that they're at Wrigley.
  22. Yea, that's why I don't think winning has very much to do with MiLB attendance. I didn't say it has NO effect. But I think tradition matters, cities that have a history of supporting MiLB. Promotion matters, and I think that's what is helping Brevard this year. Overall quality of the management team matters, as that helps generate season ticket sales, more groups, company outings, etc. And weather matters. Bottom line, supporting the local MiLB team either becomes a fun thing to do (like in Appleton) or it doesn't. Casual fans don't care about wins. They go to have a good time, or go because their company is having an outing, etc.
  23. Could be wrong, but seems like they've gone long stretches with an 8 man BP fairly often over the years.
