  1. Garza could go the pen as an option. He has no trade value, especially since his contract extends past this season. I would rather see Jungmann get those starts, or Thornburg... Cravy...pretty much anyone else.
  2. I have tried to stay optimistic. But when I see what a struggle it was to get Miller Park built and Lambeau updated, hard not to be realistic. Those teams have much bigger followings, and it was a battle to the end. I know the public portion for the new arena is much less, no sales tax, etc. But still an uphill battle. Then I saw the plans, listened to the politicians and I was cautiously optimistic. Now that it has been removed from the state budget, I'm back to being realistic. How many up-state politicians will vote for this? Honestly, I think the city and county should have come up with the full $250MM. They are the ones that directly benefit from the arena and the surrounding development that comes with it. I just don't see anyone in Milwaukee fighting very hard for this.
  3. Titles don't matter all that much. I would bet Kidd has a huge say in personnel decisions, and maybe even gets his way and has the final decision. There will be rumors forever, but the million dollar question is who wanted Vaughn, Vasquez, Monroe, etc. My guess is Vasquez was Kidd's call, Monroe was a mutual decision, and have no idea about Vaughn. But again, that's speculation. Kidd is in a perfect position, he has a huge say in decisions but if anything goes south he can say "Well I wasn't the GM..." My bet is once they become the Sonics he will officially take over the GM job.
  4. No, Jungmann doesn't have an odd delivery or anything, but every pitcher is unique- and yes teams will figure him out once he faces the same team 2,3.4 times. Just ask Mike Fiers. He was nothing short of dominant when he first came up. Now he's someone I would call "worth having as the 5th starter for now." Not saying Jungmann will follow this same trajectory, just reminding people it's way too early to "crown him."
  5. I still don't like paying role players $14MM. It's not as simple as saying "that will be worth "x" 2 years from now." When the cap goes up, most of that new cap room will be taken up by new contracts that get signed then. Vasquez and Middleton are good players, and at least Vasquez is only for 1 more year. It's almost like they're trying to win NOW, and I don't think they're ready for that. Adding Chandler or Monroe on top of that is another big contract. I would much rather keep the cap space this year and wait a year to reel in a big fish or two. After another year of MCW, Giannis, and Parker playing together they will be in a much better position to know who they need, if MCW is the answer at PG, etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't think of any these moves are disastrous. I like the game of all the players being discussed here, including Middleton and Vasquez. It just seems like they finally got cap relief and they're treating it like they just got their allowance and can't wait to spend it.
  6. I would also note, you just never know. Jungmann was having a horrible year, gets a chance to start for the Brewers and has pitched well at the MLB level. Then you have a guy like Nelson who was nothing short of dominant in AAA, but has been mediocre in MLB. Jorge Ortega isn't even mentioned, yet find me a pitcher anywhere in the organization with better numbers in the first half. These things are fluid. It's fun to rank guys, I enjoy doing that too. At the end of the day, all the rankings don't matter. You just try to collect as many arms as possible, develop them, and see how it all shakes out.
  7. John, you're really reaching and you're not normally like that. Baseball never claimed it's "cleaner than football." They simply have had a very clear rule in place for decades due the Black Sox scandal. Nobody has said what Rose did was on the scale as the Black Sox scandal, we were explaining why the rule exists in the first place. It's a case where you can't be "a little bit pregnant." Maybe he didn't throw games, he probably didn't. But the danger is always there when you get into debt with sharks. There are all sorts of consequences that come from gambling. Finally, again, who knows if he had a compulsive habit he couldn't control. Maybe he did it for fun, we don't know. But assuming it was/is a compulsive disorder that is a separate issue. That's something he should have, or still should get help for. It's not a reason for letting him off the hook for doing something he know to be against the rules, and also knew the consequences.
  8. Any of these guys would make the Bucks a better team. Right now they have Pachulia at C, Parker at the 4/3, and Henson at the 4/5. That's really about it. I do think a defense first Center is what firs the Bucks. You can never have too many rim protectors and/or big bodied, physical presence. If he can score it's a bonus, but not necessary. If they sign Middleton, which it looks like they're going to do, scoring will need to come from Parker, Giannis, Middleton, and MCW or whoever the PG is. Plus you have the bench. So they really don't need a 16 PG+ type of Center. I like Monroe, but he's more of a 4/5 type of guy, leaving Zaza as the only guy on the roster that can match-up against certain centers across the league- and not match-up very well at that. Sure, they can play small against some teams with Monroe at the 5, Jabari at the 4, etc. but there will be plenty of times that's not enough size. All this to say this is a critical point in the Bucks history. They have ZERO big long term contracts right now, so they need to be careful before they get excited with all the cap space they have and just start signing guys that don't fit. Better off waiting if that's the case.
  9. It would help to be honest with the players as well. I have a feeling that had something to do with the start they had- getting mixed messages from management. That's what happens when you trade Yo, but then go sign Lind. Players are professionals and will act accordingly if they know the plan for the team, know if they are being shopped, etc.
  10. As long as we all agree "orientated" is not a word.
  11. Vasquez for Nerlens ; )
  12. I refuse to believe there are more than 4 people on earth that say "Let's go the Brewers game tonight so we can watch Jonathan Lucroy." Baseball fans will go because we love MLB, and also realize they are rebuilding. Casual fans go to tailgate, or they have a company even, reunion, BP, etc. Sorry, I don't buy Lucroy is some sort of "face of the franchise" that can't be replaced. No Catching prospects? True, then make sure you get a catcher in the deal- or in other deals for Gomez, Lind, etc.
  13. If personnel decisions are made based on fan favorites, we're all in trouble. Fans move on quickly. Fielder and Hart were huge fan favorites, then Braun, now Lucroy and Gomez. Heck, even Scooter is popular. There's always a "next" and I wouldn't even think twice about any of that when trying to rebuild this team. And by the way, nobody will be a favorite if they don't rebuild the right way and have 10 seasons of lousy baseball.
  14. It is spooky, but I just accept the fact whatever goes to the cloud can be used by anyone at all. Our government, other governments, hackers in Russia, Google, Amazon, whatever. It's probably how companies get away with it, enough people like me that don't get upset about it- and probably should.
  15. I don't see him playing multiple positions- he is a wing. Never will be a post-up guy, just a guy that hangs on the 3 point line knocking down shots and driving to the basket. As you said, they already have that more than covered. But the bigger issue is defense. I just don't see him being able to guard bigs whatsoever, and will struggle trying to stay in front of smaller guys. He can get better, but just the type of skill set he has, I can't imagine him ever being a good defender. He ended up in a perfect place for his skills.
  16. It does make me wonder if MCW is on the move (or Mayo), and Vasquez is a temporary solution to help man the PG position- maybe a little at the 2. Otherwise I don't get it either. I don't know why you would want to add $6MM to the cap- even for one year. Just seems like that limits them in trying to sign Middleton AND a big man FA. (For example, just saw a report that the Bucks are 1 of 4 teams that will be visiting DeAndre Jordan the day FA period starts.) I like the Vaughn pick. Must say it would have been fun to take Dekker, but I get why they didn't. He just doesn't fit what the Bucks are trying to do. If Vaughn was a couple inches taller I would be ecstatic. But by all accounts he's a hard worker, a good guy, and of course a great shooter. That's a good start!
  17. Never thought of that. Easy way out is to make sure you start the sentence with their first name ; ) Beyond that, I have to believe it would be capitalized. starting a sentence with a lower case letter just seems very weird.
  18. I was there, but must have got in too late for a hat. I remember the group I was with knew about Fielder, but didn't know much about Weeks. Told them he's a future HOFer. Oh well...
  19. Any word on when Trent Clark is expected back? Doesn't look like they have put him on DL?
  20. There are at least 20-25 players who can play right away. However, some teams prefer to take guys who aren't quite ready but have a higher ceiling. It's like in MLB where draft a HS player instead of college. Neither is right/wrong, just depends on what each team is looking for. As far as the trade rumors go, if you look hard enough you would probably find rumors about most teams trading up or trading down. Talking heads need something to talk about. Could be as simple as Reporter: "Are you looking at trading up?" GM: "We're open to that" or "For the right deal, anything is possible" Suddenly that translates into Team X is looking to trade up. In the Bucks case it does makes sense though. They have pick high enough that it still has value, an addl 1st round pick next year, and young assets- all of which can be mixed and matched to move up if they really want a certain player. We all pretend to know who that might be, but we have no idea how confident they are in getting a Center in FA or via trade. Ditto for another shooter. So whatever they do in the draft is partially dependent on what they plan to do in FA.
  21. Has anyone heard if Inglis is going to play in the summer league?
  22. Parker, Henson, Mayo, 1st round pick for Cousins? No thanks. Too much to give up for a questionable character guy. After the Sanders debacle, no way I want anyone else that plays when they feel like it. Agree on Tyus Jones, I too have a feeling he is special but doesn't really fit what the Bucks want at PG.
  23. Did I miss something? I don't remember Rose playing for the Bengals. What in the world does MLB's rules have to do with the NFL? Do you suggest the Brewers can go for an extra point after hitting a HR? Secondly, unless you are currently treating Rose, how do you know he has a sickness as opposed to just enjoying gambling? But let's say you're right, he has a sickness. It's STILL against the rules. Just like today, with the new banned substance policy in MLB, a player can't keep failing tests and use the defense "I have a sickness." Finally, again, there doesn't need to be proof he threw or tried to throw any games. That is not the bar. He gambled on baseball, case closed. It's near impossible to PROVE someone is actively trying to throw a game, which is why gambling is prohibited period. There have been times college basketball players threw games, it was proven later and they admitted it. But at the time, nobody had a clue. That's why all this banter about did Rose throw games, did he bet on the Red or just other teams, did he bet only to win....doesn't matter. It is binary. Did he gamble on baseball? Yes or no? Yes = You're out of baseball. Something he knew perfectly well.
  24. How was Fielder leaving the Brewers any different than Pujols leaving the Cardinals? Sure they have the ability to pay more for players, but the fact is they don't waste what they have. Who was the last real bust the Cardinals paid any significant money to? Cards have great farm system? How is that? They aren't drafting high and they aren't trading off assets for other teams gems. The Cardinals are better because their front office is smarter and their player development staff is light years ahead of the Brewers. Brewers tried the build it from the ground up approach in the early 2000's. What did they get from it? A wild card berth in 2008 and a division title in 2011. Whoppee! That's about all we can expect for the next 3-4 years of agony during which a lot of Brewer fans will die off spending their last few years on earth watching a 100 loss team. Doesn't seem worth it to me. Besides all that, a wholesale dumping of players now, most of whom are at their lowest ebb in value, just compounds the error. This team needs to A. Draft better B. Develop players better and C. Stop signing aging FA to their last big contracts and concentrate the limited resources on talent that's in their primes and producing. Pretty sure you just agreed with me, but may have not realized this.
  25. As Nelson is approaching one full season of MLB, I refuse to believe he that "unlucky." Just too many starts under his belt. His FB just isn't special enough, and if he doesn't locate it gets hit. His secondary stuff is nasty when he's on, just not consistent enough. Add all that up, and you get the ERA he has.
