  1. It was a rhetorical question, the title of a 30 for 30....but yea
  2. Says one guy from CBS Sports. Easy to say that in May, but give it a couple months. If either/both are pitching well at the time there will be teams who need/want another vet in their rotation due to injuries, etc. Rivals can be skeptical about a Segura trade all they want, but why would that stop them from making a legit trade offer if they want him?
  3. Not that it matters, but he also looked ridiculous complaining about being tossed from the game.
  4. Mickey Crowe was the first thing that came to mind. Also, how about Wisconsin golf? How did a state in a cold northern climate become one of the top destinations for golf in the world?
  5. I must have missed this somewhere along the line. Where is Johnny Davis? Also, any update on Michael Ratterree?
  6. As I'm reading all these posts, here are few random thoughts: Braun will never play 3B again. 1B could be an option down the road, never 3B. Lind has more value than he's been given credit for. If he keeps this up there will be teams that would love to have a LH bat like that. I hope they aim for better talent at lower levels than mediocre talent at higher levels for guys like Lohse, Parra, Ramirez. I don't want good prospects in AA or AAA, would rather have great prospects at A, A+, etc. If KRod keeps this up, they better get a great return for him. Wait until at least 2 or 3 contending teams need a closer, and break their bank on prospects. I just don't see them trading Lucroy, so it's a mute point. Braun and Gomez during the off-season is realistic. And yes, I could see a blockbuster deal in the hot stove league. Any combination of Braun, Gomez, Lind, The Count, and name your middle IF Forget win now- or next year. Look at the rotation! Best bet is Peralta and Nelson can find a way to be more consistent and closer to their ceiling. Throw in a Fiers/Thornburg, etc. as the 5th starter. Hope that Wagner or someone can be the #3 guy in 2017, then add a Lohse type as your #4. (Or you get real lucky and can add 2 guys from the system to the rotation. Which is possible if they make the right trades this year.) Part of their target in trades should be young bullpen arms. Enough of starting from scratch every year with has beens and never will bes. Develop a core of 4-5 guys you will have in the pen for 6 years. Finally, bottom line is most of the talent in the system is at AA and below. So, in any trades, that's where they should focus. Build up Appleton-Biloxi so you have a rush of talent at the same time in 2017,2018. That is no guarantee of success, but I do believe it is the best option on the table.
  7. That may be true, but it should have nothing to do with the draft. It may be cliché, but they really do need to pick the best player available. They can't worry about trying to find a shooter, that's when you reach. If, for example, they think Looney is the best player at 17, you take him. The Bucks are still young, and they should be drafting the best possible talent they can. Either the piece fits, or it doesn't and you trade that player later on. But if you really are drafting the best possible talent, you win either way. Or, as I said earlier, if they really want a shooter they can trade up and get the best shooter in the draft- Booker. That would be fine, because they would be taking him in the slot he should be picked, not reaching.
  8. I just looked at some mocks for the first time in a while. Initial reaction is this year's draft is almost as good through most of the 1st round as last year's draft. Trading up for Stein isn't an option, he's going to go around 5-7, and I don't see how the Bucks can move up that far without giving up a lot. I do think it could make sense for them to trade up a few spots to get Booker- probably the best pure shooter in the draft. That would take what? A couple of 2nd rounders plus the 17th pick? That would be something worth considering. If they stick at 17, there are some really nice options that could be there. Portis, RJ Hunter, Looney, Tyus Jones. I would be fine with any of those guys. Preference is probably about in that order. A lot of people are down on Looney, but he is another freak- just needs the proper coaching in my opinion.
  9. Then there may be no need to bypass AAA. They can repeat at AA next year, then go to AAA the following year wherever that may be. Or, they may want to take a shot at Wagner and add him to the MLB rotation next year. A lot of that has to do with what happens to Lohse/Garza, and if Thornburg is healthy and effective enough to join the rotation. As far as why I'm not overly excited, well, let's just say I've seen this movie before. For those of you who have followed the minors for many years, you know we've been here before. AA loaded with pitching talent then there are injuries, guys who crash and burn, others who become mediocre, etc. The Brewers have a long history of proving they can't get their pitchers to reach and maintain their ceiling, and until I start seeing it I will remain cautiously optimistic about the AA guys, Wang, Medeiros, or anyone else.
  10. I agree. I lost track, when do they expect to find a new for the AAA team? In the meantime, I would just keep a similar roster to what they have now in AAA. Has beens, never will bes, AAAA guys, etc. Mix in guys that are not top prospects, give them a chance in AAA. Also, I'm not overly excited about the AA pitchers. Numbers look good, but it's very early in the season.
  11. And they have Rivera who's numbers have been outstanding since the middle of last season. So yea, at some point they need to make some decisions. Key is not to just give someone away because you have depth there.
  12. True, and I guess he would be very easy to trade as well.
  13. Problem is, it's going to take more than 9-10MM. More like 12-15MM is what I'm seeing.
  14. I'm worried about signing anyone else to $10MM plus, including Middleton. If you look at the roster construction 5 years from now, they will have Giannis and Parker at max contracts most likely. You still need a PG and Center. I know the cap is supposed to go way up, but all that does is create more cap space for everybody. Look at every great team in the history of the NBA. They either had (have) someone who can control the game with the ball in his hands, or a dominant post player- or both. Giannis and Parker are neither. Middleton doesn't fit that description either. All three are very talented, and will probably get better. But none of them are "give me the ball and I can dominate" type of guys. Someone who can knock down a 3, or drive and score. So how do you keep all those guys, then save a max contract for a guy can do that? I don't have the answer, but this is the way they need to be thinking moving forward.
  15. Anything is possible, but I would be shocked if this team can get to .500. The bullpen is just plain old bad, and it's not like there's reason to believe it can suddenly be better. Rotation, yea, I can see maybe they can be a little better. But with no depth at all, only a matter of time for someone to go down with nobody to step in. Thornburg?? Maybe....I guess so. After that? Nothing. The hitting will come and go, get Lucroy back and maybe they can score enough runs and carry the team to .500. I just don't see it when you look at the whole picture. Finally, as far as the whole discussion on streaks.... Sure they will have a hot streak. But streaks work both ways, and they could very well have another 5-21 streak.
  16. Colorado Springs may catch them, but I doubt it. TRats line-up is just brutal. Denson really needs to get it going.
  17. Yea, but it's not about that. It's about selecting a guy who has numbers that support him being named to the team. Otherwise you could just add 7 closers who can all pitch one inning. A couple guys with blazing speed as pinch runners, a guy who can bunt really well, etc.
  18. I don't think the Blazers let him go. Plus, he's not a center so you would have to figure out how to play him with Giannis and Parker, etc. He would be a good get though, no doubt. Something just tells me they need to wait another year before a big FA pick-up or trade. See how all the current players fit together for another year, and we'll have a much better idea what type of player is needed.
  19. It won't matter if a position is stacked, they'll have to pick someone from the Brewers who has numbers that aren't embarrassing.
  20. Gasp. Free Agent interested in one of the few teams with a ton of money to spend under the cap! No desire for Lopez. Bucks don't need an offensive C. They are about to get a better Giannis back next year, and a guy who should be taking 10+ shots per game in Jabari Parker as well. He's interested because of Kidd. (Obviously the money as well, but that goes without saying. A ton of teams have the money to pay him.) Why don't the Bucks need an offensive center? Neither Giannis or Parker are centers, so not sure why they were cited. And I don't know that it's fair to dismiss his defense. He has consistently been among the leaders in blocks. Also, Kidd has already proven he can get his guys to play defense. Mayo was about as uninterested in defense as you could be, Kidd was able to get him to play defense. There are reasons NOT to do this, but saying you don't want a center that can score 20 a game isn't a very good reason.
  21. Humor is a funny thing. I've never understood how someone doesn't think Seinfeld is funny. Then again, I know a lot of people LOVE Big Bang Theory. I don't think it's funny at all, in fact I can't stand it.
  22. Yea, I guess it would be Lind. Was beginning to think KRod would be the guy, 14th in MLB in saves. But yea, Lind would be a legit choice as of today.
  23. Someone mentioned this to me the other day, and it got me thinking. If the All-Star game was this week, who would the Brewers representative be? Going into the season you would have thought Lucroy, Gomez, Peralta, maybe Braun would be in the running. Realizing the selections are largely based on basic stats, who in the world could you even pick right now? I guess I would have to say KRod?
  24. Jeffress hasn't exactly been a world beater either. He's been better than Broxton, but has a pretty high WHIP for a late inning guy, high BB rate, etc. Bottom line, the bullpen is pretty bad and you need more than one guy pitching in late innings anyhow. It's not Counsel's fault (or RR's fault for that matter) there's guys like Cotts in the bullpen.
