  1. I agree, it wouldn't be disastrous. Not one of those deals where I'm dead-set against it. I would love to see them go all out for Jordan, but there's so much behind the scenes stuff that the Bucks may already know through his agent or whatever that it's just not going to happen. I see Middleton more like the Sova contract. He didn't live up to it, but it's not like he was useless. I guess I'm just tentative because they're finally in a position where they have so much flexibility (especially when they shed Mayo's contract after this year.) They suddenly have so much money to play with, I fear they'll be too anxious to spend it. The tear down is complete, now they're rebuilding and every move is important.
  2. Of course, you can hurt yourself doing anything. It's about relative risk, and it kind of proves the point if he irritated his oblique going for a fly ball, imagine how problematic it would be constantly throwing across his body awkwardly at 3B.
  3. Don't the Brewers still use that program where they take video of the delivery and then software compares that to optimum delivery or something? I don't think we know enough yet about bio-mechanics to unilaterally say there is right way and wrong way to throw. Yes, I would bet some pitchers delivery is flat out "wrong" and will lead to injury. But with that said, there could be others that don't fit the profile and are just fine. (I'm thinking of different arm slot angles, including the side-armers out there.) Then you get into innings per game, per season, etc. I've always believed pitches per inning is the most important, because you're using those same muscles many times in a short period of time. But that's just my own hunch. Finally, I think kids are throwing curves, splitters, etc... pitches that are tough on an arm that is still developing. The "powers that be" used to be real strict on that, and the coaches cooperated. Now everything is so competitive at a young age, all of that is out of the window.
  4. How so? He doesn't have guys sliding into his legs in the OF. Not to mention having to charge balls at 3B and awkwardly fire it over to 1B. That's always good for the ole' oblique muscles.
  5. Briggs can speak for himself, but I don't think he ever said Wang cost them the playoffs.
  6. 15MM will still be a large contract, even when the cap goes up to the projected 108MM. Remember, that means the max contract amount goes up substantially as well. At some point Giannis and Parker will need max contracts, plus they still need a PG and Center- neither will be cheap. Look at tit this way. They need to pay their "Big 3" whoever they end up being max or near max contracts. I don't like paying a role player like Middleton $15MM. Don't even love him at $10MM, but that would be easier to convince me. I just like having the flexibility to go out and get a big time player when they're ready to do that.
  7. Yea, I looked at you, you needed better secondary stuff.
  8. I don't think it's as obvious as others have said, but I would say no. If he has 50 errors, that tells me he's not turning enough double plays either, not getting enough outs on 50/50 plays, etc. Basically, a SS that bad is not only committing errors, worst part is he's turning a lot of outs into hits and fielder's choice. Finally, it's not really an "either/or" choice. It's not like I'm saying no, a .950 bat won't be on the field. I would move him to 3B, 1B, LF....etc.
  9. That never happens around here
  10. Not unusual for no deals to be done yet. It's on the buyer's side, not the sellers. Contending teams don't NEED to make any moves yet. There is time to see if they can work out whatever they need internally before they go to plan B and look at a trade. Yes, we're anxious, but I rather wait a few weeks and get better value. In fact, that's my #1 fear in all this, not that Melvin doesn't want to trade...but that he'll push the button to soon and not get the return back we should with some of these guys.
  11. When I played beer league softball... But seriously folks... Ok if losing breeds losing, then they're doomed for next year no? And the year after that, and so on. I mean, if losing breeds losing, looks like there's no way out of this? Ever? You do realize that just saying "they need to win" doesn't make it happen?
  12. Medeiros is staying
  13. Tyson Chandler is a guy who would help if you're a contender. The Bucks are still building towards that. Anyone the Bucks sign should be part of the plan for 2017-2020 or so. That's why Jordan would be perfect. A pipe-dream maybe, but perfect. And I will stand-up once again for Brook Lopez's defense. How do we know he won't be a better defensive player in Milwaukee? Mayo was about the worst defensive player you could imagine, and Kidd got him to play D this past year. Parker was a below avg defender in college, so we probably shouldn't have drafted him? No, I'm a believer that once the bar is set within a team, most players are going to step-up. Am I convinced Lopez will? No. That's why I lean towards not signing him, but it's not impossible for him to be a solid defender.
  14. I was the one who "shrugged you off," but I didn't mean to come across like that. Very simply, you can't just say a team had a horrendous start, and under .500 since so they're "not that bad." Yes they are. The record doesn't lie, and there are swings in every season. Could they have a 15-5 streak? Sure. But they're also likely to have another 5-15 streak. And I wouldn't say no one cares how they've been since April. People are still going to the games, still watching them on TV. I still watch most of the games. I don't think very many people WANT them to lose and get the #1 pick overall. But we can't control what they do, so I don't think there's anything wrong with saying there is an upside if they are the worst or 2nd worst team this year. No, I don't watch 150 games a year hoping they lose, that would be pretty depressing.
  15. Yes, that is one of the things being talked about a lot. And not just middle-good players, great players too. Reason being, max contracts will go up as the salary cap goes up. I don't know enough about it, but I suppose teams could get creative with their contracts and sign a "great" player in 2015 at max, with a clause the contract will increase to the new max in 2017.
  16. This reminds me how much there is to see and do in Milwaukee- especially during the summer. We get looked down on nationally, but we look like New York compared to KC. Above suggestions are good, but really that's about it. And I like KC, but other than great BBQ and a couple museums (WWI museum is another) , not a whole lot to actually see/do there.
  17. It is nice to see signs at least, but he also struck out 3 times. He is definitely over-matched in A ball at this point. Gatewood on the other hand, as has been said, is really hitting the ball. The Brewers have always like to keep groups of players together, so maybe that's why Gatewood will still go down to Helena with Harrison.
  18. Now that they shed Sova's contract, I would love to see them make a legit run at Jordan. Will the Clips really give him a max deal when they still have Paul and Griffin that require max deals? And I know the Mavs are the other team being thrown around, but they're still convinced they can contend- sort of stuck being a good team.
  19. First, from everything I've read they expect Middleton to get an offer for $12- $15MM. Nobody knows for sure, of course, this is just speculation. Keep in mind the NBA cap is going WAY up in the 16-17, 17-18 season. $67MM for next season, projected to be $108MM by the 17-18 season. So that changes everything. With that said, you're right they will need to sign Giannis and Parker to max contracts IF they end up being the stars we hope they become. And then this is the part that isn't talked about enough. They will still need a PG and a C. Even with the huge cap expansion, that's a lot of money they'll need. So, while I like Middleton a lot, if it does get up in that $12-$15MM range I would let him walk. We have seen this movie before, and bad things happen when you're stuck with big cap numbers on role players.
  20. Gatewood is a SS, did you mean Harrison?
  21. I'm sorry, but talking about a 17 year old being a 40/40 player is a little over the top. Do you know how many players had EITHER 40 HR or SB last year? Much less both? And we have NO idea if he can be a so-so MLB SS yet. Let's wait for him to play a game or two of professional baseball before we project him as an MLB SS who can hit 40 HRs.
  22. Yea, that's getting close. The numbers I have show they will be $26.6 under the cap next year after the Sova salary dump. They would still need to sign their 1st round draft choice, of course, but I think that will be less than $2MM where the Bucks pick. Since I like round numbers, that gives them $25MM under the cap to sign Middleton and/or other free agent.
  23. What's the alternative? Draft guys with great defense and hope they can eventually hit? Those guys have a much higher flame-out rate than the other way around. "The bat plays" is a saying for a reason. Sometimes those guys develop into decent or even really good glove men, sometimes they don't. But if they're going to rake, at least they serve a purpose. There is no purpose for a SS or 2B that hits .180. You talk about the corners, but you do realize that's 4 out of your 8 position players, so what's wrong with filling those positions with big bats/limited defense? There's a lot of guys from the recent draft all the way up to AAA who can play 2B,SS,CF. I hear what you're saying, but frankly that was more the 80s and 90s Brewers than what we have today. As for Lara, I don't think anyone is envisioning 1.000+ OPS. In fact, I think most of us aren't envisioning anything, other than raw potential. Again, he is 17 years old! To worry about position at this point is crazy. I'm sure he will get a look at SS/3B but if it becomes clear he doesn't project as an MLB SS, why waste time?
  24. The Bucks will save $7.9MM on next year's cap by trading Sova, assuming they cut both Butler and Williams. Sova only had one guaranteed year left.
  25. Worked pretty well for Ryan Braun didn't it? Besides, the Brewers have developed SS. Escobar, now Rivera and Arcia. Would be nice to have 5 tool guys at every position, but that's not very realistic.
