  1. I don't think he is. He's just swinging at pitches he didn't swing at in the past. Swinging and missing at off-speed stuff low and away, and hitting grounders on low fastballs out of the zone. That's the biggest difference I've seen in Braun.
  2. I am a re-born Bucks (and NBA) fan. My son got me back into it, actually. I walked away because of all the thugs, the street-style of ball, no defense, players seemingly caring more about themselves than winning, etc. It is better basketball today, due to most of those above issues are gone- or at least much improved. I always appreciate defense in any sport, because it requires effort and heart. Watching the Bucks, they have plenty of both.
  3. I don't recall seeing any MCW "haters" on this board. He had a great game last night, carried the team. Yet he was awful in game 4, didn't even finish the game. Off and on throughout the series. Most of the series Rose/Butler have torched him and the other Bucks guards. Last night tBulls were dead cold from 3, it happens. Not sure how Knight's defense can be extremely over-rated, I don't think anyone has ever thought of him as more than an average defender. Besides, the way the Bucks play defense it's not all about one-on-one match-ups. They switch basically every time there's a pick. And that's why MCW is the better defender. If he gets caught on a bigger player he can hold his own much better than Knight. None of that is a surprise. We can debate this to death, but I still maintain Knight's shooting would have helped this team in this series. In fact, if Knight was still here they would probably have played Toronto instead. But I'm done with all that. The trade is done, and MCW is a better long-term solution at PG.
  4. Again, how do we know ARod's contract is the same as Braun's? I would bet Braun's contract doesn't say anything specifically about PEDs, but it may not need to. It could have something vague like "conduct detrimental to the team" or something like that. Regardless of the likelihood that would hold up, it would put Braun back in the spotlight in a negative way and he doesn't want that. Plus, there's always a chance the Brewers could win that case. All depends what judge you get, they make crazy rulings every day.
  5. Happens all the time in the NFL. Also fairly common in the NBA (admittedly not 5 years beforehand- but 2-3 is common.) No idea if this is true, but there was a lot of speculation back then that Braun and Mark A had a relationship that extended beyond baseball, with Mark A's Hollywood contacts, etc. IF that's the case, it makes sense that Braun would want to sign long term early.
  6. I sense the Bulls win handily tonight, but if the Bucks can somehow pull-off another win it gets real interesting. No team has ever come back from 0-3, but I would bet that's because 90% of the time those series are over in 4 or 5. Bring in back home for game 6, and it's on!
  7. No, all that proves is the Yankees didn't take that route. That's not proof they couldn't have. Also, none of us knows exactly how the contracts were written for ARod and Braun. This is always quickly dismissed, but nobody has ever provided proof of why this couldn't be an option. (And I'll admit, there very well could be a reason why- I just haven't seen one yet.)
  8. Do we know for sure that the Brewers can't take this to court, claiming Braun voided the contract? I look at it this way. If he shows signs again that he is close to the old Braun, at some point they'll be able to trade him. Teams don't care about past PED offenders, and there would be plenty of teams that would pay that contract for a .850 hitter that still has a few years left in his prime. However, if he continues to struggle it's time to go to Braun after the season ends and ask to renegotiate his contract. If he refuses, there is the nuclear option. Cut him, don't pay him, and let the courts work it out. That could take years. My guess is that if the Brewers were serious about doing that, it would bring Braun back to the table to renegotiate. Would he be willing to not get paid while it's in the courts, risk losing and getting nothing, all the while having your name dragged through the mud again? Now I realize that would be a bold move by the Brewers, and the union would be up in arms. But would other players around MLB? I mean, let's face it, Braun isn't the most popular guy on the field. I just think with the amount of money involved, you need to consider all options.
  9. You could have a game where Yuni plays one inning at every position. Then again, RR may not get that it's a promotion.
  10. Again, it's the media's job to promote stories they think are interesting to their audience. Anyone that has video showing his actions- that will be a bigger story than a player with no video. Player with a bigger name? Bigger story than a no-name player. You can go on and on. Steroids, PEDs, there's just nothing new there. Now if Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers would get caught....huge story. That's just how it works folks.
  11. Guys, I don't think I could have been more clear. Never once did I say MCW won't be better than Knight- maybe he already is. I was talking about this playoff series specifically. You know it's not fair to throw in Knight's injury, performance with Suns, etc. None of that would apply if he stayed with the Bucks. To say MCW's stats are irrelevant puzzles me. It doesn't matter to you if he shoots 70% or 20%?
  12. I really think Melvin is going to step down after this season, or the 2016 season. Some signs are there, including the fact he hasn't signed a new contract. Would also partially explain why RR got extended a year. He doesn't want to bring in a new manager that the new GM has to inherit. No way to know if that's what's going on here, but that would make sense.
  13. You've just proven the front court is NOT the problem with those +/- numbers. (And I do realize that stat is far from being the be-all/ end-all.) Henson and Zaza have held their own, which has really surprised me. Have they been outplayed? Sure, but nowhere near what I expected. In fact, Henson has had a really nice playoff series. Also, Rose hasn't done all of his scoring with 3PFG, he's had plenty of drives as well. And no, I don't think giving him wide open 3s are the shots they wanted him to take. Especially once he's proven he's hot. Finally, I never said they lost because of MCW, I said Knight would have been a better fit for this team right now. Bulls are winning 3-0 because they're better at every position.
  14. No, ESPN isn't driving it. They are reporting it, which is their job. What's driving Hardy's suspension if the fact that he abused a woman. Whatever punishment he gets, he deserves, no matter if it's consistent or not. Plus, we don't know all the facts in any of these cases. Whether someone is a serial offender, if they've done other things besides what the media knows, etc. Either way, I don't feel bad at all Hardy got a bigger suspension than player B or player C.
  15. Well, that's pretty condescending. Instead of throwing out a cheap shot, care to elaborate on why MCW is so superior? Here are the facts. MCW's playoff performance: 39% shooting 0-4 3FG 4.5 Assists (Pumped up by huge minutes in Game 3) +/- -11 But wait, look what he does on defense! Ok, let's look. Rose has dominated in this series. Is that all on MCW? Of course not, but he is the primary person guarding him. Besides all that, everyone saw him standing and dribbling time after time this playoff series, including the entire 2nd OT. With all that said, MCW may or may not be a better PG than Brandon Knight now or in the future. But there's no doubt in my mind Knight would have been a better fit in the playoffs this year for THIS team. They sorely needed someone who could get hot and knock down 2-3 threes. Brandon Knight can do that, MCW can not.
  16. The Bucks have no control over the secondary market. (Stubhub, ticket brokers, etc.) That's where the Bulls fans got the lion's share of their tickets from.
  17. Tmw, Alcon smith incident happened before Ray Rice. I'm trying to explain there's consistency ever since the Ray rice and Adrian Peterson media circus. Also, I don't care if it's not exactly the same suspension. You do something wrong, you pay the penalty. If I get pulled over for speeding I may get a warning, I may get a ticket. I accept the consequences, regardless of how many people may only get a warning.
  18. Fixed that for you. I don't mind the fix, wouldn't disagree with your additions. Point remains the same, regardless of their motivation they have been consistent since the whole Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson thing. And guys, please, enough already with the "late for work" debate. It's not even a good analogy.
  19. You can't compare Stallworth to Hardy. One is pre- Rice/Peterson, one is after. NFL has been consistent ever since they realized it was getting out of control last year.
  20. Looks like bringing PrinceXXX back is winning 4-2, with one abstaining.
  21. While we're looking into the past, let's also remember the Brewers very well could have won the WS the year they had Greinke/Yo/Marcum. Marcum had a great year, in fact he was the best SP for a big stretch of that season. But his arm was dead by the time the playoffs started. (RR still should have started Yo in game 5, but that's a whole other debate.) Point being, the trade worked, just had some bad luck. If they would have won the WS that year, I rally doubt anyone would care about losing Lawry and Cain. Similar situation in the Sabathia/Yo/Sheets season. Sheets arm is done right before the playoffs, which changed everything. Now, to be fair, I still don't think thy would have won the WS that year even with Sheets- but we'll never know. The position we're in today has something to do with those trades, but I still believe they were worth it. When you have Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Hart, Yo, etc. in their prime, you go for it. Who knows when they will have that much home-grown talent at the same time ever again? Finally, I said above the Greinke, Marcum, Sabathia trades had something to do with where we are today- but nowhere near entirely. The way the bullpen was built this year is a joke. Decisions they made on the bench players was a joke. No SP depth. Most of all, a very pedestrian Braun has really hurt.
  22. This would need to be worked out with security, but how about "Provide the gas to the bullpen" night? Fans that bring a gallon of gas for the bullpen to throw on the fire get a 5% discount in the Brewers Clubhouse Store than night.
  23. Let's not get bogged down talking about PAST trades. This thread is to discuss the FUTURE. I agree with most of what you said Reilly. A few points to add: - I don't think you can be afraid to trade Segura or Davis. If some team really wants one of them, you take a deal if it benefits the team in 2018 and beyond. We have Arcias, Sardinas, Rivera, plus who knows who else in the lower minors that could emerge. - Honestly, the more I think about it I would add Peralta to the list. He will have his 6 years in by the time this thing turns around again. If he returns to form, you can't afford to sign him long term. If he's mediocre, well then you should have gotten great value in the trade. -Above all else, I think you need to hire a GM from within a successful franchise. Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals, etc. Someone who understands how to build a staff that knows how to identify and develop pitching talent above all else. This is crucial. -Starting pitching is going to be tough during this period. IF they do what they should, and deal Garza and Lohse. You're essentially left with Peralta and Nelson. MAYBE Fiers. After that, there's simply nothing there that's anywhere close to a sure thing. But the need to avoid the temptation of spending money on fill-in guys like Suppan/Wolf. -Beyond that, it's faith and patience. Build up the system with as much talent as possible, and wait for it to develop. No guarantee we will ever again develop Gallardo, Fielder, Braun, Hardy, Hart, Weeks, etc. all at roughly the same time. But it is the best chance we have to be a legit contender.
  24. He's tried to re-join the forum under other various monikers since he was banned. I don't think the steering committee is exactly feeling willing to give him another chance. If bf.net were a democracy, PrinceFielderx1 would be let back in. Please, I beg you. We have five more months of nothing but pain and tears, Prince's contributions would be a ray of sunshine in an otherwise cruel, cruel world.
