  1. There's a difference between a calculated risk and insanity. Every team takes calculated risks every year. The Brewers did it last year, handing the LF spot to Davis. This year, they're throwing Nelson into the rotation. Trying to get one more productive year out of ARam and KRod. These are all calculated risks. Same is true with Scooter, but I can see it either way. I would give it a try, but can see why others would not want to play him at all aginst LHP, or at least hit him 8th.
  2. Willy Nelson was/is rebellious also. But I agree, I like a lot of different types of music, and it's not determined by the wholesomeness of the content or the artist. Same goes for movies, I probably don't agree with 99% of what the movie stars promote as their causes, how they live their personal lives, etc. Ditto for pro sports. It's all entertainment, and if everyone had to pass the wholesome test, I would have nothing to watch or listen to. With country, I have honestly tried to like it but I just don't. Every once in a while there's a cross-over song I like here and there, but that's it.
  3. Nah, I don't think the Badger players are gassed. These guys are used to playing a ton of ball in one weekend from back in their AAU days, not to mention Bo/s practices aren't exactly a walk in the park. Plus, the Tourney adds a lot more commercial breaks, and they're longer breaks. So plenty of down time. I'm sort of glad they beat Oregon with Kaminsky having a bad game. Get that out of the way, save the best for NC and beyond. Oh...and hope AZ or KY somehow get upset. We can dream. As for the rest of the tourney, yea I picked NC State over Nova. Also picked Mich St over Virginia, have the Izzos going to the Final 4. Not gloating though, because most of my other upset picks didn't go so well.
  4. I disagree. I have no problem giving Scooter the chance to lead-off against LHP to see how he handles it. It's now or never. It's worth the exercise, because if he's even decent you have your lead-off hitter for the next 5 years. Just because he wasn't great in the minors or a limited sample size in MLB doesn't mean he's not capable of doing it now. I have no proof that he can, other than a gut feeling he can. But I must say, this year I have no idea what the line-up should be, and I haven't felt that way for many years. For example, I could see Braun in the 2-4 spot. I would really love to move ARam down in the line-up because I smell a decline. Lucroy you can put virtually anywhere. Would like to experiment again with Segura at #2, but he's probably the odd man out. Lind I would like to see higher in the line-up, but just no room. There are just so many variables. How important is having the line-up R-L-R-L-R? Do you want Gomez at the top or in a run producing role. Ditto for Lucroy.
  5. If I ever got a jersey, it would be Yuni. That way I could wear it to games and easily identify my fellow bf.net members. Either that or SOLVVD. Come to think of it, that would be awesome.
  6. When you think about it, these top programs would be even more dominant if the one year requirement went back to three. At least now KY and the other have to almost completely reload every year and start over. Can you imagine Kansas with Wiggins, Embiid and others for 3 years? Duke with Jabari, Okafor, etc. for 3 years? And Kentucky?? Wow. 8-9 of the best players in basketball together for an extended period. I think there would be far more domination if they extended the one year policy to 2-3 years.
  7. I don't think it's an assumption. It's about ratings and money, so I doubt these stations would go to that format if the audience wasn't there. Which, as long as I'm here, I'll add this to "What's bugging me." If you like country music, fine. But quit trying to convince me to like it too. If I hear "but the new stuff is different" one more time... I get it, it's not Loretta Lynn anymore. But it still hurts my ears, so quit trying to make me like it.
  8. I had similar access, experiences in Chandler, so maybe it's more about the organization than facility? I don't really mind Maryvale, other than (for whatever reason) I like the other side of town more. Scottsdale down through Chandler/Gilbert.
  9. I understand where you're coming from. But it's not like Kentucky wins it every year, heck they didn't win it last year. If anything, doesn't that make it more interesting for you? A team to root against? Kansas didn't even get close last year, even though they had the #1 and #2 picks in the NBA draft. UCLA has several guys go in the 1st round of the draft last year, they didn't even get close last year either. So this idea that a few teams get all the "one and done" players and it's unfair really doesn't hold up. Kentucky and Duke just happen to have outstanding coaches and would be in the mix every year even if they had all guys who stayed four years.
  10. To each his own, but my gut reaction is to snicker at someone who puts their own name on a jersey. I am not a Brewers player, why wear a jersey with my name on it? With that said, as I've gotten older I really don't feel like wearing any player's jersey or shersey either. I will wear generic Brewers stuff because I support the team, not an individual player. Yes players come and go, and we really don't know a player so I'm not going to fall into the Favre, Braun, etc. trap again. But again, that's just me. Just please, I beg of you, if you do get your name on a jersey don't be "that guy" who picks a certain number in the 60s.
  11. Gonzaga is the biggest consistent choker every year, so it would make sense they would somehow end up in the Final 4 this year...
  12. N Iowa is in the East, not West. But I agree, I don't trust Nova or Virginia either. That's why the East, to me, is almost as easy as the South. N Iowa seems to be one of trendy picks this year based on what I'm hearing from the talking heads. I have Mich St making it to the Final 4 from that bracket. I'm usually wrong, but I just see the MW and West going way more according to the chalk than the East/South.
  13. It's an organizational issue because Sedar makes far too many mistakes under the guise of "being aggressive" and he is rewarded for it because it's exactly what RR wants his team to do. I do agree, we notice the Brewers mistakes more since we see every game. I'm sure many teams have lots of mental errors also. With that said, I dismiss any stats trying to quantify base running, since it's just too subjective.
  14. Have you ever watched West Wing? It is one of my all-time favorite shows. Seasons 1-4 are better, IMO, than the remainder, but it is a very solid show. Yes, I watched it when it was on live, and re-watched the whole series a few years back. Excellent writing, casting...just a solid show.
  15. As I filled out my bracket, I realized just how difficult the West is compared to the other brackets- especially the East and South. Duke has a cake walk to the Final 4. Over-seeded Gonzaga, IA St., and Georgetown as the 2-4 seeds.
  16. Agreed. A team like the Brewers shouldn't be spending large amounts of money on a declining 3B and a "sorta" closer. Bank that money and use it when the stars start to align so you can jump the payroll up another $5-$10MM when it can really make a difference. But the Brewers strategy is now clear. Start the season every year with a "competitive" team. Then come July/Aug make a decision whether to be a buyer or seller.
  17. Cotts. Cotts? I said LEGIT LHP. I am really starting to get worried about this pitching staff. Jungmann looks nowhere ready to be the #6, and serious questions about Nelson at #5. Beyond that, who else is there for the rotation? Thornburg maybe, but that's asking a lot from a guy coming back from injury and not in a starting role for well over a year. Bullpen isn't much better, only one LHP, Henderson looking like he won't be an option, etc. Jeffress and someone else like a Kintzler will really have to step up. Still won't be surprised if Melvin pulls off a deal before the season starts.
  18. Would much rather be the #2 Seed in the East, a much easier path to the championship game. Oh well, that's what you get for earning the #1 seed- virtually the same path as last year.
  19. If the extra $5-10MM was added to the money saved by not having Broxton and ARam, then we would really have something. All those guys do is make the 2015 team respectable, not a contender. $23MM for those two guys is crazy.
  20. OP asked about Netflix specifically. Just an FYI, they don't have any HBO/ Showtime TV series, which eliminates many of the best. SoA would be a good choice. As someone said House of Cards for sure. My darkhorse is West Wing, which i will start watching once I'm done binge watching HoC season 3.
  21. Is Smith the only legit LHP? How did that happen? I am terrified RR is going to miss-use the bullpen this year by not using Smith the right way. I can see him burning through Smith, Jeffress, and Henderson too early in games, leaving no options for the 9th. With the guys they have, it will be critical to use these guys properly, at times set up Smith for the save if opposing teams has a couple LH coming up, or using Jeffress at times in that role, etc. Instead, I see RR using the "conventional" approach. Krod is the closer, Broxton gets the 8th, and some combination of Smith/Henderson/Jeffress get the 7th. If they do that, good luck, because I just don't see that working out very well. I continue to hope there will be another LH option via trade before the season starts.
  22. When I look at the bench, I'm most interested in PH role. Yes, defense is important for backup catcher, maybe even middle IF and 4th OF. All of that is covered with Maldy, Hector Gomez, and Parra. So, for the last two spots I don't care about positions or defense. If a player is needed for a longer stint due to injury, a better mid long term fix can be brought up from AAA if necessary. I want two guys who are capable of stepping to the plate in late innings and delivering a base hit. All that brings me to this point. Logan Schafer has no business being on the 25 man roster at the start of the season, yet he probably will be. I would be comfortable with Clark, Jimenez, Long, Peterson probably in that order. Rogers would be nice, but better served playing every day in AAA, for his glove as well as his bat. Same with Rivera. At some point, maybe even later this year, one or both could be on the bench.
  23. I think it's very simple at this point. Beat Mich St, and they're a #1, lose and they're a #2. I just can't see the committee not rewarding a team that won the Big Ten regular season and tournament. Especially since every year they say how important it is to win the conf tournament, and the seeding has proven that over the last few years. When it's close, a team that wins their conf tourney gets the nod. By the way, nice to see Dekker really step up his game just in time for the tourney. He will be the key in how far the Badgers can go.
  24. No they won't. Not until they add players that can score. Knight was the only guy who could create his own scoring (with the exception of Giannis or Mayo at times.) They have nobody who can put the team on his shoulders and score 25-30. Plus, not sure how long Dudley is out, but he was one of the few 3 point threats. Now they have a bunch of long guys who are very good players in a lot of ways- but not scorers. Certainly not shooters. Long term, this may still have been a good move. But like I said from the beginning, this will really hurt the team the rest of this season.
  25. Yea, if he really was about the money, he could have just showed up and do nothing until the Bucks were forced to cut him and pay him the entire amount.
