  1. I was at the game in Green Bay last night, so I can provide a few random observations. (With the caveat I understand this is the first pre-season game.) Kidd had Parker guarding Zach Randolph for a stretch in the 1st half, and as would be expected got eaten alive. They will definitely need to match him up properly on defense playing 3 or 4 depending on who the opposing team has out there. Parker and Giannis really struggled with their jumpers, the one things keeping them both from being stars. But that will come in time. I don't like Knight at point, I just don't know who else would start at PG. To me, he is an ideal 6th man. But with this roster he almost has to start. Sanders and Henson were both active. Still both challenged offensively, but altered shots, got boards, all the things you want from them. Middleton is the hidden gem on this roster, in my opnion. Plays good defense, smooth on offense, and can really shoot. I couldn't stop looking at MAyo, even though he didn't play. Looks like Jesus Shuttleworth's father (Denzel.) I swear he lost 350 pounds from last season. Didn't see enough of Dudley, Marshall, or Bayless to really have any kind of opinion yet. O'Bryant won't get many minutes this year, but I'm convinced he can play in this league. Have a feeling the jack rabbit will be the odd man out this year, and won't see the court much either. Leuer looked good by the way.
  2. That's true, of course, but they could be a player in FA next season already. Zaza and Ersan would be easy to move in trades, even Mayo if he plays well early this season.
  3. Normally, no they wouldn't. But when the Owner males a statement that the entire coaching staff including RR are being evaluated at some point you need to announce the conclusion. So he can't just say nothing, if RR is back he'll need to say so in some way.
  4. One of my biggest pet peeves as well. What makes it even worse is most people don't excuse themselves from the conversation before they turn to their phone. You're jsut talking and all of a sudden notice they're not even paying attention to you anymore. So rude. The few times I check my phone while having a conversation, I say "I'm sorry, I just got a text I'm expecting from my son letting me know he's home." (As an example.) I've come full circle on this. I used to find it necessary to constantly check for texts, emails, etc. I have learned not to let my phone dictate how I spend my time. All we can hope for is this will eventually come full circle, but I think it will take a while. Wish I could say it's just a teen thing (I have one) but I swear adults are just as bad. And it's not just women either, it seems to be everyone. Quick story. Last weekend our family got together for dinner and my sister was constantly texting. My dad turned to her and said "Is our company not as interesting as your phone?" Zing!
  5. Here we are on October 8th and still no announcement on RR. At this point, it doesn't exactly scream confidence in your manager if it takes this long to decide you're keeping him afterall.
  6. This. They can't get caught up in having to start certain guys, or making sure all these guards get equal playing time, or any of that. The goal this year is to find players and combinations that work, so they have a better idea what they need next season and beyond. It won't do any good short term or long term to give Parker of Giannis roles they're not ready for. Believe me, I get the excitment. I'm excited too. But Parker is a rookie and Giannis is still very raw in some areas. The Bucks marketing dept can and should hype these guys, but it shouldn't determine how Kidd uses them. For example, Mayo is in great shape and seems to realize he needs to have a good year if he ever wants another contract again of any size. So maybe he plays a lot at the beginning of the season, and is good enough to find a sucker (I mean team) that will trade for him. So there's a bigger picture here. They have to develop the young talent, but they also need to get rid of dead weight that won't be part of this team 3 years from now. But while all of that is going on, the #1 goal is to find out who is part of the futire, and in what combinations.
  7. Starting means almost nothing in the NBA. It's about minutes, and who's on the floor at the end of games. There's no reason either one HAS to start. I get the PR angle of this, but it won't be good PR either if the locker room is a mess from day one because Mayo, Sova, or some other vet isn't starting. I'll leave it up to Kidd to decide who starts, because PArker and Giannis will get plenty of minutes either way. I know there's been a lot of press about this, but I think we need to tamper our expectations here. 1) The Bucks already have a bunch of PGs on the roster and 2) Giannis' handles are not good. I get it, it's exciting to think about a 7'0" PG, or point foward, whatever you want to call it. And he may be capable of doing that one day, but now.
  8. I'll give you advice you didn't ask for either. Why not set up an account with Schwab or Fidelity, etc. and have x amount automatically deducted from every paycheck? Then you can't piss it away, it's exactly the same as taking extra tax money out. The difference is, your money is growing in that account instead of sitting in the IRS. How much would I have to pay one of those types of companies. Probably $0 in most cases. If you open a new brokerage account and set up automatic paycheck deductions, I would be surprised if you had to pay any fees at all.
  9. Actually, it really doesn't matter who starts. I'll be curious to see who is on the floor at the end of games, and how that changes as the season goes on. I also don't think either Giannis or Parker are locks to start by the way. Sanders is the only lock to start, and probably Knight. (Although I would WANT to see Knight be the 6th man.)
  10. I don't think anyone has used "Yo" and "ace" in the same sentence for at least a couple years now. Years back, it was talked about a lot because he was the best pitcher on the staff. And it was a legit debate over whther he was a "true #1" type of pitcher. I think we've all come to accept Yo isn't an ace, "true" or otherwise.
  11. I see it both ways. Downtown would be nice (and I realize also that's where it's going) but the Valley could have worked. Unfortunately, the "powers that be" really messed up a long term plan. Now, we're stuck with attractions scattered everywhere. The Zoo, State Fair Park, Miller PArk, Poto, Downtown/ new arena, Summerfest. Can you imagine how cool it could have been to have all or most of these venues together in one entertainment district? But alas, that ship has sailed.
  12. I'll give you advice you didn't ask for either. Why not set up an account with Schwab or Fidelity, etc. and have x amount automatically deducted from every paycheck? 13. That sounds good, but how do you prove that? Unless someone says "Yea, I don't care about winning." Plus, what if you believe a couple of those guys firthat mold that can't be easily moved? I know Reynolds is a guy they're not happy with, and that could be the only one. Just curious how they're going to determine who else doesn't care about winning.
  14. I don't think we can expect that at all. Sure, that could happen, but there is just as much chance they will regress. Actually, Davis and Scooter tailed off already in the 2nd half of the season. You could make the case one or both are headed down the Segura path. Hot MLB start, then cool off and stay there indefinitely.
  15. Braun's situation is different in a very important way- PEDs. I understand the contract is guaranteed, but that was based on a PED-free Braun. They could explore going down the road of breach of contract. Would Braun really want his name dragged through the mud all over again? Or just agree to lowering his salary by 20% or so, as an example.
  16. Actually, I've been thinking how it would have turned out if we signed Abreu, and if we ver legitimately had a shot to begin with. I think DM handled the end of the season about right. He got two players who helped this year, and will be back next year, without giving up much. If you make a Sabathia type move every year you're "in it" the Brewers would have no Peralta, Nelson, Gennett, Coulter, Tyrone Taylor, Wagner, who know who else. It's a fine line, especially with the Brewers.
  17. I don't want to speak for others, but I don't think many would call it a "good" contract. Acceptable contract may be the right word. I plan to dig into the numbers soon, but it seems like .850 OPS is the new 1.00 OPS. And 20 HRs is the new 30 HRs. Just seems like HR, BA, lots of offensive numbers are way down from where they were a few years ago. Anyhow, as I said ina previous post on this thread, I think it's worth exploring restructuring Braun's contract to make it more team friendly.
  18. Ok I understand, but do you think the Cardinals will drill the Brewers less if "we" retaliate more? Seems to me it would make the situation worse. I know it's frustrating to get hit so often, but as long as you have guys like Plush and Gomez you're going to attract HBP. I don't like it, it's stupid, but that's the way it works.
  19. Yea, I've been worried from the beginning that the power brokers in Milwaukee would find a way to screw this up. This is going to take way longer than it should, and the project could end up not being as nice as it could be. (Arena itself, along with surrounding area.) I still don't rule out the possibility this never gets done and they move to Seattle. Probably about 5% chance, but still a chance.
  20. Sounds like you do have a hole somewhere if mice and snakes are getting in. And you may have far more mouse activity than you think, which is attracting the snakes. Mice don't always take the poison, and even if they do they would be more likely yo go outside to get more oxygen and die out there somewhere, and you'd never know.
  21. They are trying him there in the instructional league. I don't think they know yet what position(s) he will be playing in 2015.
  22. I have no proof, so I could be dead wrong, but I believe the Brewers record has absolutely nothing to do with the Brewers beaning or not beaning anyone- including the Cardinals. If anything, it could cost a game by getting our pitcher tossed. If the Cardinals, Pirates, or anyone else wants to play that way, let them.
  23. I'm optimisitc that the starting rotation really stepped up in September. There's been a long string of quality starts, many of those oustanding starts. As much as the position players have choked down, at least the pitching staff did the opposite.
  24. Braun has always had a good eye? Not so sure about that. Here's yet another idea. Ryan, we signed you to a long term contract before we know about PEDs. We are going to ask you to restructure your contract, since you are not the same player today. Then I tell his handlers behind the scenes that he can certainly refuse to do this, but he will look awful in the public eye. After all that's happened does he really want to go through another round of media bashing? Yes. that's playing hardball. And it probably wouldn't work. But I'm open to considering it at least. Make his new contract say 67% of what it was, and he can back to original amount through incentives.
