  1. Status quo. And I don't accept the premise he goes "all in" every year. He wants a team that is competitive every year, within reason.
  2. If it's this season, doesn't matter who the replacement is, it will be an interim manager. It would take a lot for RR to get fired this month yet, and that would mean they're out of the race. His son could be player/manager at that point, doesn't matter. During the off-season, there's obviously more time to consider all the options. IF they do make a change (and I think it's a huge IF) they need to find a manager who will get players to listen and adjust. By all accounts RR is very hands-off, and doesn't like to tinker with how guys play. For the most part, I don't even have a problem with that. But there are times, and there are players who need to change their approach. Everyone has their own style, so I'm not looking for a certain "type" of manager. I don't care if they yell and scream, get results through respect, being a "players coach," etc. Doesn't matter to me. We just need someone who can get through to some of these guys that swinging at a fastball above your head on a 3-2 count with RISP isn't such a good idea. Again, just to be clear, I fully expect RR (and DM for that matter) to be back next year.
  3. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't have a problem with anything either Lucroy or Davis said in those interviews.
  4. Pure wild speculation on my part, but a guy like Gindl knows the team wants to see power numbers. Instead of letting the HRs come naturally, you start pressing to hit the ball out of the park. There has to be tremendous pressure on a lot of these guys who are pretty good hitters, but know they need to rack up HR count if they're going to be a part of the plan.
  5. I agree, and it is one tangible fault RR has. He confuses aggressiveness with undisciplined. They are two diferent things, and this is manifested at the plate, on the basepaths, and at times on the mound. He has said over and over again he wants his guys to be free swingers. I'm over-simplifying I'm sure, but what ever happened to "swing at strikes, don't swing at balls." Same on the bases. You take the game situation into account and decide when it makes sense to send someone home, try to steal a base, etc. RR doesn't care, he wants to run no matter what and keep swinging no matter what. No doubt, he has other strengths and weaknesses. But his "style of play" is something tangible. His love affair with griity veterans has also been a problem over the years, including this one. As mentioned above, they had little to lose by throwing Rogers and/or Clark at 1B a couple months ago already. Or even giving guys like Gomez, Valez, Halton a shot as the 4th OF. 1-10 scale, I have no idea what I would give RR. I'm not calling for his head, but at this point it wouldn't bother me if he was replaced. But that's not going to happen. Would love to start out next season with Counsell. I would even consider Matt Erickson.
  6. I'm coming up with nothing. There's always next y... nevermind...no...nothing.
  7. The more I think about it, I think the Brewers slide is Dead Simmons fault. Sure, when he first started posting in the IGTs, we all thought he was good luck. As it turns out, he may be a virus. Implanted months ago, activated 2 weeks ago. Can't prove it yet, but I'm not ruling it out.
  8. If by "put to use" you mean a couple PH opportunies a week, you'll be happy. If you expect much more that that, you need to read RR's management handbook. It clearly states, stay the course. And you absolutely never replace gritty veterans with guys just called up from AAA. I think RR's head would explode at the mere suggestion.
  9. Just amazing to me that Gamel, Green, Gindl all flamed-out. Never saw that coming.
  10. That goes without saying. So if thats true, shouldnt herrera be playing more?
  11. Maybe. But I dont trust anyone in that role right now, including nelson. I like a hard throwing guy like jeffress or nelson in the 8th, but somehow dont feel either will be the lights out kinda guy you want.
  12. Well his son died at 9 months. Which means his wife got pregnant well over a year ago. No one on this board can say if there were complications. Who knows maybe there have been family problems for the past year. Combine it with pitchers figuring him out some and he just hasn't been able to make adjustments. True. But by all accounts this was sudden. Hard to take this stance without sounding cruel, but im sure many players have serious family, personal, etc stuff they have to deal with. Just as we all do. Im even willing to give him a pass, but thats not even the issue. In this pennant drive should herrara be playing a lot more, thats the question.
  13. I think I have to agree here. I know it's a business and he has to perform, but every time I look at him I think of what he lost. I dont agree. Has nothing to do with whether hettera should be playing more. Plus. Segura has been this bat at the plate long before that tragedy.
  14. No question you don't HAVE to donate, and I'm sure many people don't. Although most people I know have donated (or at least saud they have.) At the same time, all the publicity has generated people to donate (myself included) even if they haven't participated in the challenge. So it seems like a win/win to me...
  15. There is no shortage of water in WI. Not sure how dumping a bucket of water in WI does anything to impact the drought in Arizona, Africa, or anywhere else.
  16. Or it helps prove how flawed a stat xFIP is.
  17. It's all about the change-up, otherwise he's a #4 or 5 starter.
  18. I wouldn't go that far. He COULD solve that need, and certainly worth trying. But no guarantee he can be that lights-out, dominant 8th inning guy lots of other teams seem to have.
  19. I would feel better about trading Yo if I was confident Jimmy Nelson could produce the same numbers or better. I just don't see him being a top of the rotation type of guy with his stuff. Then you have Fiers, and he is way too much of an unknown to make a commitment like that. (And I'm a huge Fiers fan.)
  20. Yea, with every start it is looking more and more like that.
  21. If this the "new normal" for Braun, his contract moving forward will be higher than his WAR would dictate. But at least you're still getting production out of him, it's not a total loss by any means.
  22. Far from over vs Dickey and the Toronto bullpen. Must say though, I liked the dominant, AAA version of Jimmy Nelson better.
