  1. Short answer is no. Unless they make exactly the right moves, everyone stays healthy, have a little luck, and everyone performs at or above career norms. Even if Greinke is signed, we lose Marcum. Who replaces him next year that can put up the same numbers? How can the bullpen get a massive upgrade? I'm not as concerned about the bats. Gamel and Gonzalez will be back, plenty of hope Weeks will return to form, etc. It's the pitching that really concerns me, even if Greinke is back.
  2. Good thing RR got his contract extended. This team plays smart, fundamental baseball every night. I swear they screw up so often we forget half of them. Gomez doubled up at 2nd on a routine fly ball tonight just one of many, many examples. At some point doesn't that fall on the Manager? I get they've had a lot of injuries. But that doesn't forgive all the bone-headed plays we see night in, night out.
  3. A little trivia. Ransom is the 48th player to play 1B for the Brewers this year.
  4. 1) Giving up Nelson Cruz for nothing. 2) Not matching Yankees offer for Sabathia. Now THAT would have been going "all in." WS Title last year very likely with Sabathia/Greinke/Yo. Although that may have been a Mark A decision, not Melvin.
  5. Three guys that intrigue me are: Moe Harkless- Quick, lanky, length. Translates well to NBA, Improved as the year went on. Like many young guys, needs to work on jumper. Royce White- That X factor type. NBA body. Finds ways to score. Can defend, rebound. Brings lots of intangibles. Seems like at times he can play bigger than he is, and also plays smaller when necessary. He does have a phobia about flying. If that can/ has been handled I like him a lot. Festus Ezeli- Here's a guy who really improved as the year went on. Long, shot blocker, real defensive presence. Developed some post moves by the end of the season. I think he'll continue to get better. Reminds me of Hibbard. All three of these guys would be considered a reach at 12. But like them all better than Lamb, Zeller, Meyers, Sullinger, or Jones. Rivers is the only guy near the 12th pick that I like. I don't like guys like that who are surrounded by a ton of talent and don't really stand-out. And as others have siad, Meyers just looks dis-interested. Now give him some money, and really watch him disappear. This franchise needs to role the dice on upside. Fast forward 3 or 4 years and I'll bet you my 3 are better players than any of those other guys.
  6. Well put. This also manifests itself in sticking with players too long, and not recognizing when he has someone better right in fromt of him. Took too long for Aoki to play every day, and I doubt he would be doing so today if it wasn't for some injuries. Veras was penciled in as the vaunted "7th inning guy" and it took forever for RR to see he is a below average pitcher. Last year it Loe in the same situation. Stuck wth McGehee forever. He wants Gomez at the top of the lineup come hell or high water. He just seems to convince himself of certain things, and it becomes very, very diffiuclt for him to make the necessary changes. He has to realize the way this season is going, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. A bold move last night would have been to leave Parra in for the rest of the game as long as he wsn't getting into trouble. You could always bring Ax in during the 9th if necessary. But no. The law is a relief pitcher must start the inning. I'm all for having set "rules" for the bullpen if you have the arms and results you need. That's not what we have this year.
  7. Mental laziness too. You know Escobar isnt swinging 1st pitch. So groove a fastball, get ahead and now you can mix in the curve.
  8. I wouldn't necessarily trade him for young talent. In fact, I would rather package together a Hart/Axford/Ramirez type of deal for a premier SS, starting pitcher, or legit power bat.
  9. Why is Lucroy, Braun, Gomez, and Hart on that list of regulars who are under-performing? Every one of them is around or above their carreer OPS.
  10. I'm assuming you mean best BF thread after WHOA SOLVVD?
  11. I have probably watched it 10 times over the years, just an oustanding job of film-making. I owb the DVD set and will still watch it when it's on TV. By the way, I tried to watch the Pacific and barely got through two episodes and never watched the rest.
  12. I think Green needs to play at 2B once a series for two reasons. 1) Weeks isn't producing. As long as that's the case, he has no God-given right to play every day. So I wouldn't sit him a couple games a week to punish him. I wouldn't sit him in hopes that will get him out of his funk. It's simply a matter of production. 2) As long as Green is in Milwaukee, he needs more ABs. No, he hasn't set the world on fire but at his stage of development he needs consistent ABs. If he gets 3 starts a week at 1B,2B,3B plus some PH opportunities that would be ideal. Beyond that, all you can really do with Weeks is wait for it to turn. Too much money invested in him, and too much history to give up on him.
  13. Actually Dillard has been ok, as long as his role is last arm in the pen. Veras has been worse. Higher ERA, much higher WHIP, and higher BB/9 than Dillard. Even worse, Veras has been given the keys to be the "7th inning guy." And it's not like one bad game has inflated his numbers. He's had control problems all year, and has no business being anything other than a mop-up guy, at least right now.
  14. They stop the game and say the previous play is under review and then wait around for a few minutes for the guys in the booth to tell them the call. Even the obvious ones take a while. If you are going to have replay then you have to get it right 100% of the time (which they dont) or the mistake will be shown on ESPN over and over. Therefore they watch every play from every angle to be totally sure when in theory they only needed a quick 5 second look from one angle. Plus they review way too many obvious plays Which is why I lean against replay in MLB. You'll never get them all right. I have been in the IGT where where we've been 50/50 on plays at the plate, plays at 1B, etc.
  15. No way I believe that, you have to function in resetting the ball and players etc too. Plus they review every single touchdown when there is no need But they do it instantly and in the booth. No waiting for a red flag, walking to peep show booth, etc. 90% are no brainers and take almost no extra time. Not even saying I want more replay in MLB, but it could be done quickly.
  16. Right, but reply in the NFL wouldn't need to take that long. Big 10 reviews usually take less than 30 seconds.
  17. He hurt his hand due to an accident in his hotel room, as he described. You can speculate all you want, but that's what happened. He was there, I think he would know. The accident he described is actually far more believable than most of the theories I've read here.
  18. I don't think anyone is talking about selling NOW. But if they're 8-10 games under .500 late July, early August you have to consider selling.
