  1. Yuni up, 2 on nobody out. RR could: A) Let Yuni hit away. B) PH Green there. *To be fair, I don't think many managers would have done that. 1st MLB AB in that situation. C) PH Kotsay. D) Bunt. If he chooses this option, why not someone who can...you know....BUNT. Greinke for example. And can't he see everyone crashing? Doesn't that tell you to call off the bunt, since Yuni would have to lay down a perfect bunt? AND if you're dead-set on it, put in Counsell to run for Fielder. No guarantee any of these options would have guaranteed a run, but they're all better options than what happened. I don't care about the loss. I care that this team has shaky defense, the bottom half of the lineup is dead weight, so the last thing we need is a manager who may make these same mistakes in the post-season.
  2. I hope nobody uses "Fear the Beer", I think it should be "Drink the Beer". No, that would be plagiarism. LaRussa already has claimed that slogan.
  3. Forced nicknames annoy me. Sometimes they're fine if it happens naturally. I do predict we will see/hear "Fear the Beer' theme, since ESPN already mentions this from time to time.
  4. Upon further review, Wolf should get a start vs Atlanta. Braves hit .649 vs LHP, .729 vs RHP. That is a significant split, and Bourn brings that down even a bit further. Finally it's not like Wolf has been some type of serviceable #4 starter, he has been as consistent as anyone.
  5. Continuity. And that's a pretty weak reason.
  6. I like it Topper. Of course, if the Brewers win the NLDS in 3 or 4 games, you can have Greinke going game 1 of NLCS
  7. Yes, I believe these splits should factor in. As should a starter's recent numbers vs individual players. For example, if they do play the Braves, Greinke should get the 1st start, so he could pitch another game at home if needed. Then I would look at Yo, Marcum, and Wolf's numbers vs the Braves best hitters. It's all about match-ups and in the playoffs you only get one chance to get it right. Now, if they beat the Braves and face Philly, you start the whole process over again. You may need to tweak the rotation, add/remobe Wolf...jsut depends what the numbes look like, how many days off you have to work with, etc.
  8. There is a slim chance the Brewers catch the Phils, but it's the only goal left. So I'll be scoreboard watching until it becomes obvious the Phils can't be caught. Why? There was a slim chance the Brewers could play at thislevel for so long. Slim chance they could buils a 10 1/2 game lead so quickly. So making up 5 games on the Phils suddenly seems possible. Especially when they play them 4 times at home, and the Phils have to play a ton of games with no off days, DHS mixed in, and many games on the road. That will hold my interest for the rest of the regular season. Well, that and observing what antics LaRusa still has up his sleeve. Something just tells me a major brawl is coming at some point.
  9. If only I could figure out how to EASILY post pics.... it would be more "Packer crud." None other than former QB... Rich Campbell....
  10. It's also ironic you bring up the Giants as a team who won the WS with holes in the lineup, when a guy who played a huge role happened to be........a rookie.
  11. Not so fast, could still be a bottom of the 9th.
  12. Easiest explanation is that a move hasn't been made yet because it doesn't NEED to be made yet. No reason to activate Weeks or Gomez until they're ready to play. And they still have a week to decide if they want to bring up Gamel, Green, or anyone else prior to 8/31. Just makes sense not to make any moves until they need to be made. I rather have Gamel, Green, Gindl...anyone else continue to get all their ABs instead of sitting on the bench in Milwaukee for a week.
  13. Just responding to various comments posted so far: McGehee- Lots of talk about trading him, but they will probably better off keeping him. What would you really get? The time to trade him would have been after last season, as some here suggested. SS- I'll repeat my desire to go after Tejada. If the Mets sign Reyes, Tejada is just too good to rot on the bench. You're not getting any power, but you get everything else...including defense. Wolf- I agree this off-season would be a good time to "sell high." As with any trade, you just have to get fair value in return. Gamel/Green/Berkman- Sounds stupid maybe, but to me it depends on whther the Brewers win the Worls Series this year. If they do, I want to go with Gamel and Green, and for that matter Gindl as the 4th OF. I don't consider it rebuilding, just that I would be more willing to take a chance on all these guys at once with a WS under my belt. If no WS, then bring in Berkman, I'm fine with that if we can get him. Green/McGehee would make a perfect platoon, except Casey can't hit LHP. Just play with it in April, and those things usually take care of themselves.
  14. Insert Jim Mora in 3.....2.....1
  15. You don't need a "rubber arm" to pitch an inning two days in a row.
  16. How about Braun at 1B? With Prince out of the picture, it really gives the Brewers the opportunity to improve defense at various positions. Green is probably a slight upgrade at 3B, anybody is an upgrade over Yuni at SS, Braun would arguably be an improvement over Prince, and Gindl or any number of free agents or trade candidates woud be an improvement over Braun in LF. On offense, you're basically replacing Gamel with Gindl (or some other corner OF) in the "master plan." You're substituting power for defense. Now, in no way do I expect Braun to move to 1B, I just think it's worth considering. I'm just really concerned about Gamel's blind spot- the low and inside pitch. It just makes me nervous that he is apparently the heir-apparent to Prince's throne at 1B. I hope I'm wrong, because I would love to see Gamel produce numbers close to what he's been able to do in Nashville.
  17. I have no problem with a loss, but it seems like RR mailed this one in. Greinke could/should have been pulled after the first two got on. It was pretty clear he didn't have his good stuff to begin with. So why not Hawk or even KRod in that spot? Get out of it, and it's still tied or a 3-2 game maybe. But he lets Greinke stay and get ripped, then no choice really but to put Frankie in there to mop up. Yea, I know it was a calculated risk to keep Greinke in with a short bullpen and live to fight another day. And if this was May 22nd, I would even agree with it. But late August, plus the team on a role...you gotta get while the gettin's good.
  18. How about Ruben Tejada at SS? If they hold on to Reyes, the Mets may be open to moving him. Better defensively, and he has a nice swing. No power at all, but I think his OBP will get better.
  19. New ballparks play a role as well. Citi and Target Field to be more specific.
  20. lol at Ax warming up up 6-1 with 2 outs in the 9th. Faith in FDLC at DEFCON 4.
  21. RR pushed the right button again tonight, CC two hits and a walk.
  22. yea, save the fight for the Cards series. My money is on Ed Sedar laying out LaRosa.
