  1. I think Jimmy did some pitching in fall instructs. If so, that's still a far cry from throwing 100 pitches every 5 days. I'm super curious how they'll handle him. Would they put him on the DL going through extended ST? It would be tough to argue he's still hurt. Does he have an option we could use to have him open in AAA where his workload can be monitored more closely? Or does he show up well enough that they simply go for it and have him pitching every 5th day? A lot of options. He's still coming back from injury, so DL would not be a stretch at all.
  2. So he starts by saying its a normal ST, but then points out all the ways its not normal. I will stick with my default, if he can help its a bonus.
  3. Yea not interested at 4%. I just figured deferred fixed annuities may be getting towards 7% if CD rates have climbed to 3%. Dont know much about them yet, just figured they would give you a lot higher interest rates than a cd since the time period is so much longer.
  4. I dont see how another LH infielder helps anything. If they add anyone, it would be to get Shaw out of the lineup vs LHP. So Perez can play 2B or 3B, but hey still need one more RH bat.
  5. I 100% agree with your second paragraph. For the first, it simply because he was not good at all in the second half. So, through the ridiculous first half we were all saying this is likely a fluke and way above waht he can do. Second half happense where he wasn't good and it's then very reasonable to think he's closer to 2nd half than 1st. I'm hoping he dropped a few pounds and of course am fine rolling him out there basically full time again to start the year as I expect him to be in the middle of the two halves last year. But if the first 2-3 months are like the end of last year you then start looking to recude his ABs vs righties a bit and finding improvements somehow. Basically, it's not really likely for him to match his numbers from last year because that 2 month crazy stretch isn't gonna happen again. Fair enough. But he did hit .760 in the 2nd half, it's not like he was horrible. Point taken though, I wouldn't bank on a .900+ season from him. Possible, but would definitely feel better with a backup plan.
  6. Aguilar hit .876 vs RHP last year, there is really no need to platoon there. Even in 2017 he had solid numbers. For some reason a lot of people still doubt him, but he's only 29 and I don't see why he wouldn't put up similar numbers again this year. Thames really needs to be traded, there is just no room for him- especially since he plays only one position. Shaw, Braun, Grandal could all play 1B here and there to give Aguilar some days off. The final position player spot needs to be an IF that can play multiple positions.
  7. He hasn’t looked great in the MLB but he’s done extremely well in AAA, while calling Colorado Springs home. He also has only pitched in a total of 6 MLB games. Clearly the org likes what they’ve seen at AAA and think he can eventually help the big league team in some capacity. Yea, AAA has never been a place strictly for prospects. You need some guys to round out the team.
  8. A little too much hyperbole there for my liking. Bandy was beyond bad. Susac was beyond beyond bad. But Vogt and Kratz were average to above avg backup catchers. Nottingham, we don't know what he will be yet.
  9. Doesn't every region of the country THINK they're polite? Southern Hospitality, Northwest is kinda known for being hippy-ish and real polite, the Mid-West(which is really about 2/3rds of the states depending on where you're from). I feel like the only people NOT concerned with being polite come from a small cluster in the Philly, NYC region. Not that they're rude, they just don't really care if you think they're polite. I'm guessing some forum sites are not considered a region [sarcasm]... what a dumb thought...[/sarcasm] IGT forum must be Midtown Manhattan.
  10. Sounds like his agent/ union got in his ear. That's fine, he's a grown man and can make his own decisions. There is injury risk and at his age performance risk. I would have jumped on a 4 year deal, but that's just me.
  11. Regarding Dubon, I would only add if he had finished the season last year he would have likely been #2 on our Top 25 list. The injury delayed his development, but didn't erase his skills. We really don't know what their plan is for either Hiura or Dubon. Part of it, probably a big part, is in their own hands. But Stearns/CC have always said they'll bring a player up when they think they're "ready." Without paying all that much attention to Super 2 either, FWIW.
  12. That's my pick as well. He's already shown stretches where he was right on the ball. Now that he has more MLB experience, I have a feeling this year he will put it all together.
  13. From my experience in life, I find that for some reason, society, in general, is more annoyed with the person who points out another person being oblivious or rude than they are at the person who was actually oblivious or rude. This is why I really enjoy Larry David's brand of humor that puts a spotlight on this behavior. I could see this being a situation in "Curb your enthusiasm". Larry shows up at a party held by someone who did not bother to respond or show up to a gathering that Larry was hosting. Larry brings up the situation to the host at the party and everyone listening to the conversation gets upset with Larry. I feel like something close to that did happen on Curb. But you're right. For example, try calling out someone for line cutting, and you're the one who will be seen as a big jerk.
  14. Let's wait a bit, there have been instances recently where the team option did end up being a mutual option. It does sound better already, but I want to see the official details.
  15. It's a cultural thing. Saying "No" in the midwest is viewed as rude and people will do anything they can to avoid saying it. "I can't be there." is like this taboo thing to say. My friends from New York call people out on this crap all the time (and I've started doing it too). We live busy lives, it's okay if it's not your thing or you can't be there!! That's what's odd, because it's also a cultural thing in the Midwest to be polite.
  16. Keep in mind the profits just don't go into Mark A's wallet. At some point Miller Park is going to need repairs, refurbishing, etc. They need to fund for that appropriately. For example, at what point are they going to need to replace the roof, or at least make major repairs? That's not going to be cheap. As others have said, Mark A wants to win. And I think it would be hard for him to say no if Stearns brought him a deal he feels strongly about.
  17. With interest rates going up, I wonder if annuities make more sense these days? Every broker/ financial advisor I know says annuities a re bad idea- which tells me I'm on to something. I would never lock up all my money in annuities, even when I retire. But I've been flirting with the idea of putting a chunk in a deferred annuity if I can get the interest I need- thinking even 7% would be pretty appealing to me. I doubt they're up to 7% yet though.
  18. Didn't let him go, he chose to go to Taiwan.
  19. Depends (as always) on the return, but also on how they really feel about Nottingham. I take anything the team says about a player with a grain of salt, you never know what they're saying is true or jedi mind tricks. If they have a lot of confidence, makes a Pina trade easier.
  20. A platoon would likely put up similar numbers than Cabrera with better defense. Although I would definitely take Cabrera over Harrison. No idea what Cabrera is looking for in terms of a contract. Cabrera is at best a minimal upgrade over Perez. No thanks. If you can get Deitrich or Solarte (and unload Thames) to play most days vs. RHP, I think either or those two are better bets than Spangenberg or having Perez facing RH pitching. Both can shift over to 3B or 1B to give Aguilar a day off too. Even if those guys are better (arguably) than Spangenberg, it's too late they already have him. So they have Spangenberg and Shaw vs RHP. What they need is another RH bat so Shaw can sit vs LHP.
  21. The same person is directly responsible for managing both. It's stupid not to understand a simple job description. I'm not saying he was distracted, the leadeership on the team said it. Complacency set in, and Murphy didn't notice. Nor did he notice TT declining abilities.
  22. First, they're not going to rush Hiura no matter what. Stearns and CC have both talked about this in the past, they won't bring up a player until they are "ready." That's not just numbers, but if they feel the player is mature enough, etc. That said, I see your point if the platoon fails then what? Well, same thing could happen with almost all the names people are throwing out there. And if you look at their numbers, they've both been pretty consistent if used in a strict platoon. Anything can happen, but hard to see that platoon hitting under .700 as a floor, and the ceiling is .800+
  23. They don't share that revenue, that's the beauty of it.
  24. Thanks, I do remember that now. Don't take offense to my lack of recollection previously, that's just my seeming increasingly short memory these days. I think the media struggles to understand what Green Bay is as an organization, and fails to understand the things they need to do to be successful that other organizations in the NFL do not. If there's criticism about the Titletown District, is there also retroactive criticism about the Lambeau Field Atrium levelled at Bob Harlan? Of course not, because it's one of the better financial decisions the team has made. When the district is done, I think the results will be looked at similarly. That said, isn't that what the President of the team should be focusing the bulk of his time on? If anything, doesn't this seem like a 'want it both ways' arguement? Most don't want Murphy involved in stuff like hiring the coach, but then stuff like this says that he should be focusing more of his time on the football aspect of the organization, rather than the financial side.... isn't that incredibly contradictory? Yeah, I don't think you'd hear anything about TD being dumb if they were winning a bunch of games. It's just low-hanging fruit. "You should spend your time on X instead of a skihill!" It's kinda dumb. It's like the reaction when Obama fills out an NCAA bracket and he shouldn't do that because X is still a problem. Titledown District is a must-have in pro sports today. You can't just be a famous stadium. It's simply not enough anymore. That's a kinda dumb comparison. Filling out an NCAA bracket takes 5 minutes. Focusing on an entertainment district is a full time job.
