  1. It is certainly the majority of it but do you think Harper is buying a cheap house? Yea, but its an investment not a cost. More than likely he would make MORE money in San Diego selling his house vs Philly. Not to mention he may not even want a house in Philly. All that said, its a non-issue anyhow since its a small fraction of his salary. What IS a real factor is state income tax. My guess is PA taxes are high, but CA even higher.
  2. This makes a lot of sense for me too. One thing worth noting is their farm system is insane, and most of the insanity is pitching related. Signing Keuchel likely blocks guys at some point, but I suppose that's a good problem to have. Also you have to figure Keuchel will play up in a big stadium and with a good defensive infield. Tatis and Machado at SS/3b with Hosmer at 1b...that's a great start to an elite IF defense. My thoughts exactly. Heck, he could be in the running for CY pitching in that park. And never, ever worry about blocking someone- especially when it comes to pitching. 12-13 pitching spots available, plus Keuchel could be traded in a couple years, trade a couple prospects for another big name at some point- so many options. As Walter White once said "No more half-measures." They got Machado, Hosmer....why not get a SP who's just sitting out there. Of course, same could be said of the Brewers I guess.
  3. Don't rule out the Padres.
  4. bWAR last 3 seasons: Harper: 7.5 Cain: 15.2 Wow did the Brewers get a way better deal. Yea, I know Cain was 5-6 years older when he signed, but they'll get the end of his prime years and probably a couple decent years at the end. Phils paying way more for less production, with a huge risk attached if Harper falls off drastically early.
  5. Based on all the reviews I've seen, not sure why I would try anything other than YouTube TV, and then add Philo if I want a bunch more channels. I could see if I was already using a different streaming service that I'm used to and fine with, why change. But starting fresh sure looks like YTTV is the way to go. (I couldn't deal with no MLB, and quirky using antenna for CBS- two channels I watch for sure.) I also expect some mergers, etc. in this space by the end of the year.
  6. I'm always unsure about to handle these situations too. My opinion, I would collect the cash and then buy flowers and have them sent to the funeral home along with the card that comes with the flowers from your team. (Rather than give your employee a card with cash.) Other than the official HR stuff, about all you can do beyond that is a sincere "Anything at all I can do to help?"
  7. Special season, I'm going to relish every win. Horrible start vs Bulls, my brain is hard-wired for them to mail in a loss and live to fight another day. Nope, put the hammer down for another cruise control win , without Giannis of course.
  8. Wife: You need to salt the walk and driveway Me: Yea, but theres like an inch of ice, it will take like 400 lbs of salt and that may not even do it. Wife: Is that a lot?
  9. You can add Philo for $16/month to pick up a bunch of channels Youtube TV doesn't have. When i have time, Im going to test them both for a week. First I have to choose a streaming device, and lots of different opinions on Reddit about the best way to go.
  10. I think we are lucky for him to perform even average ever again. Rooting for him with everything he's going through, but I've never been optimistic about his return.
  11. YUNI 4VR WMILL ED RUNNINRR
  12. Refs got it right. Look closely, and Lopez didn't exactly tip it. It rested just a bit on his hand. One of those you could call either way and be right, depending on your definition of "tip."
  13. Just saw this one earlier this week. It was 1992AB I think?
  14. I expect the 5.2 avg again this year. Maybe a tick or two up/down, but that's about right. They simply have too many quality arms in the BP/AA that can pitch multiple innings.
  15. Nobody's stopping you, go for it!
  16. Probably because there isn't any open display of religious sentiment for valentine's day?
  17. Then who takes his place? Brown? Wilson? Either of those options would be a big drop off.
  18. I think we're getting caught up with semantics. Piggybacking, bullpenning, long man, etc. Bottom line, in general starters will not go deep into games, just like last season. Third time through the lineup will be avoided whenever possible. They will use their pen a ton, and shuttle guys up to cover innings so nobody is burned out. We'll also see more than 5 starters, so that will keep the starters innings down as well. None of this should really be a surprise, it's what they did last season- and not just September/October. That's when they took it to the extreme, and no we won't see that level of "bullpenning" for the entire season.
  19. I think BBQ matters a lot to Sterling, pretty rare to see an NBA guard with a gut. Question about what you have outlined above. What if Middleton, Bledsoe, Lopez don't accept the Bucks' offer and go somewhere else? Can the Bucks then use that salary slot/exemption to sign a FA?
  20. Irsan is making a case for keeping his minutes when Mirotic starts playing. I think they go big more often. Brown hasnt shown much lately, Wilson either really. Havent been awful or anything bit Mirotic's minutes have to come from somewhere.
  21. If your goal is to completely wreck the back end of the bullpen by July, this is a great plan. Joe Maddon would be proud. Why do you say that? Hader, Jeffress, Knebel handled late innings in close games all of last season and none of them were over-worked. I think what we miss sometimes is this list of 13 is just the initial list. They will use at least 10 other pitchers over the course of the season. That's how the middle innings get eaten up, even some of the starts.
  22. I'm still not counting on Nelson being a factor until/unless he can show the same velo he has pre-injury. Even then I won't be optimistic until I see he can maintain it throughout even 3-4 innings over several games. First he has to touch that upper range, then he needs to be able to stay there. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but all this "on track" talk is better than the alternative but still doesn't mean much to me.
  23. Thanks for explaining all this CH Luke. NBA cap/contracts has always been a murky haze for me. Apparently I'm not alone, as even the Bucks owners are saying things about attracting big FA when it makes no sense to do so. Seems they are stuck, but that's not all bad. Just a matter of spending a lot of money but they can keep everyone. So, the next question is how would a future trade work? Example, let's say they wanted to put together a package to trade for a stud player in 2020/2021. Could they trade Brogdon/Middleton/1st round pick? Just curious, because it looks like if they do keep all these guys they won't have any flexibility for several years?
  24. Mountains??!! phhhh no problem
