  1. Being pretty familiar with the Packers BOD and Executive Committee, I would bet this is due to the ages of the GM/HC. As in "Don't worry, I will still have final authority over these young whipper snappers." Don't doubt it, average age on the BOD is 174. But is it is weird. And it's weird Murphy went on and on during LaFleur's press conf. Everyone wants to hear the new coach dude, not you.
  2. Not buying it. They don't nee insurance at SS. Arcia is going to play the entire first half. If they still need an upgrade at the AS break they can bring up Dubon if he's ready or trade for one. For short stints, they already have two guys who can play there at a competent level. Plus, it will take more than a one year deal. Just not a fit, IMHO.
  3. And your Milwaukee Brewers would truly become the Washington Generals. I dunno. There'd be so many guys as free agents it'd probably water down the total amount spent. Back in the day Charlie Finley, the A's owner, wanted every player to sign one year deals and every player would be a free agent each year. The players didn't want it because they knew it'd drive salaries down. Look at the roster. Sure, Braun would make a lot less but look at some of the others. Yelich, Hader, Knebel, Aguilar, Shaw, Burnes, etc. No way they could keep all those guys. They could use Braun's salary to pay some of them but they would lose Yelich for sure, probably Hader or Shaw. And that's this year. If Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Arcia all improve in the next year or two no way you can keep most of them either. Put in a hard cap, I will be willing to negotiate FA.
  4. 1) He has Hader hair 2) He gives up a ton of HRs, walks everyone, ERA a tick under 7.00 and WHIP of 1.7. WAR -2.0 for his career. That's really hard to do in just 114 innings. Other than that, great pitcher. 3) My advice to him, study the flight schedules between SA and Milw

  6. Interesting to see the story about complacency setting in. The players leadership apparently saw this as a big problem, some of us have been saying it for a while now. Truth is, Murphy got complacent himself. Held on to Thompson way too long while building sledding hills and ice rinks. Yet he's still around.
  7. The Spangy/Perez platoon would far surpass that .700-.725ish. Not sure why you would spend significant money on Marwin. I think if they add another 2B/3B it either needs to be a small salary depth move or get someone who is a definite improvement. Marwin seems to be in the middle.
  8. All of this depends on how much money is left to spend. We're getting mixed signals from the media (not surprising.) One source said Brewers not in on LeMahieu now that they got Grandal. But the same day it's reported they are still in on Moose. So do they have $10MMish per year to sign someone or not? If not, I don't see signing Harrison(very questionable bat and no position flexibility) and definitely not Walker. I keep saying it but Spangy/Perez would probably make them league average at 2B at least. Then Hiura may/ may not come up at some point and improve on that. But even league avg is a big improvement from last year, and they can always get someone in July if necessary. But I think Mark A would spend the money on the right player/deal. That's what my gut says. And I think that would be Moose. That allows Shaw to play some 2B as well, and a lot of 1B vs RHP. There would be room for improvement with Perez at 2B vs LHP, but otherwise the roster would be perfectly set-up. 2 RH on the bench, 2 LH. And 6/8 hitters in the line-up could be LH or RH without forcing it. Also, it would make me "feel like" they got Moose for 3 years in the trade, and I would feel better about trading Phillips.
  9. Well, we cant have this discussion without bringing up a salary cap so I will. I dont care about the owners, players, union, or agents. Im a fan of a small market team, along with millions of others. MLB needs a hard cap, and yes Im fine with a floor also. Even a high floor. Spit-balling here but say $90MM- $150MM. But wait, there's more. I would even allow a team to have one contract that goes over the cap. I could live with the 12-15 teams each paying a star a ton of money. Theres really not more than 12-15 superstars anyhow. If getting a cap meant the Yankees and Dodgers could still have that advantage, fine with me, at least it would be much closer to level. Also, all players would need to go through the draft. 16 year olds from the DR, Japanese stars....all of them.
  10. The only plate I would even consider paying extra for personalized plate: WOSOLVD
  11. Good point. But this approach assumes Hiura will be up in a couple months, so I could live with that temporarily. TBH though, we really don't know the plan for Hiura. Could be they have no intention of brining him up in 2019 unless they're "forced" to. Ideally, they get a Lawrie, Castro, someone who could be the full time 2B. Then you have a bench of Gamel, Pina, Perez, Spangy. Very balanced, position flexibility, and most of all not any junk.
  12. Spangenberg is really being glossed over IMHO. Compared to some of the names being thrown around, he is as good or better. He can also play other positions, and very realistically could hit .800 vs RHP. If they can get a guy that's better, I'm all for it. But a temporary Spang/Perez platoon until Hiura arrives would be fine for a plan B.
  13. Just throwing this out there. We have heard nothing about Starlin Castro this off-season.
  14. Same was said about Andre Rison, he had even more issues. That worked out alright. In fact, Favre was a problem child before he came to GB. Every player, every situation is different. I share your concerns, but I'll trust the Packers to do their homework. And if they feel uncomfortable at all, I agree with you- stay away. Apples and oranges situations. That 1996 team lost its superstar receiver, Robert Brooks, to a devastating ACL tear, and while Antonio Freeman and Derrick Mayes were promising, they were both very young and somewhat unproven. Don Beebe was that team's wily vet, but he wasn't the type of starting WR that a Super Bowl team should have been counting on. Desmond Howard had proven by that time that he was never going to be the type game-changing WR he was in college. Rison was a superstar-level talent available at a supremely discounted price. He was the perfect fit for that team. But it was telling that the Packers didn't try to overly hard to resign him following the SB win. Yea, but that wasn't my point. I'm not talking about production or what quality a player he was. I'm saying he was perceived as a problem child, and didn't cause any issues when he came to GB. Point being, same could be true for Brown. Just because a player said or did something in the past doesn't automatically mean he's a jerk. (Usually does, but not always.)

  16. In years past, that's a loss. It felt like a loss coming in, then throughout the 1st half I figured they were done. Of all the positives we talk about, one huge thing they have this season is confidence. They understand runs happen in the NBA, they absorb it and then move on and take the game back. Love it.
  17. No, you're good, I approve. Then again, huge Yount fan here. Can't wait until you fly past me and cut me off. I start cussing then notice your plates and say to myself "it's Patrick, I'm cool with that"
  18. This is how I feel. Mack was available, now potentially Brown. Not sure if they should get him, but this is the TYPE of move I'm looking for. However they do it, need to bring in a couple true impact players this year. I always worry about the prima donna WR, but truth is none of us knows any of these players beyond what we see in the media. Packers would need to do their due diligence to see if he would be a problem. That would start with "Are you ok not catching 150 passes every year?" Because they do have Adams, who would have to be on the same page with this move as well.
  19. I watched them both as well, mixed feelings. The format is weird, I would have preferred they went with either a true documentary or a factual made for TV series. Instead it's a strange combo, and it's distracting. I'm always open to playing with the format, I just don't love how they're doing it here. Still, intriguing enough I'll probably watch the rest.
  20. 1 Gold Vault? Probably just their initials actually. Which should go under the "What's Bugging Me" thread, people who pay for personalized plates and just have their initials, or something like this nobody can decipher.
  21. The "Getter" part is the hardest part for me... Out Converter? Out Actualizer? Out Enforcer? Out Generator? Out Accumulator? Out Aggregator? Out Collector? Out Capturer? Initial Batter Terminator?
  22. That was my "off the top of my head" guess as well. 30! Well 28 if you remove Kratz/ Perez. Initial Out Getter- Yea, it sounds weird. But I get why they're using that language. They want to reinforce with their pitchers that they're all equally valuable. These guys have gone through their whole lives and careers with this ingrained in their heads: Starter >>> Closer >> Set-up Man > middle/long relief. So while I don't really love the term, I get it.
  23. Slightly OT, but related. Without looking, how many pitchers did the Brewers use last season? Ok...now you can look. (I knew it was a lot but I was still surprised- even throwing out Perez/Kratz) Everyone's "plan" looks pretty solid so far, but it will change significantly by April, and throughout the year.
  24. Agree. He struggled in a man coverage defense, both on the outside and in the slot. Josh Jones is much better near the line of scrimmage (more of a SS), so I'd like to see Jackson as more of a FS (along with Tramon Williams). Really like the idea of bringing back Breeland as the slot CB. King/Alexander on the outside, Breeland as your nickel back and then Jones/Jackson/Williams at safety is a starting point, but could really use more talent at safety and more depth at CB. Really shocked to see Jackson struggle so much, especially in the slot. Is he that slow, or maybe just not playing with much confidence? I'll have to trust the staff, but yea I could definitely see a change to safety. I think we need to view King as the Jimmy Nelson of the Packers. I would be anyone here he won't play 12 games next season, let alone 16. It's not like it's one year, he's always been injured, even coming out of college. I would be fine if they used a 3rd or 4th on another CB.
  25. Remember, they will have somewhere around $50M in cap space, maybe a little more if they can restructure Graham and Perry. The draft isn't the only place to source starters. This draft is so deep at DL and to a slightly lesser extent OLB/Edge - and fairly weak at OT and to a lesser extent OG - that I think they go DL/OLB early because they will likely be the positions with the BPA and go the free agent route to shore up OG. There is a lot of depth in free agent OG's too, and the supply/demand could work in their favor and the better value could be OG in FA. Pass rushers and defensive linemen cost a lot more in free agency than guards. I could see an OT early to (hopefully) develop for a year, but don't want to reach for one just for the sake of spending a high draft pick on an OT. Oh, I agree, doesn't have to be through the draft. In fact, I will be surprised if they keep those two 1st round picks. I fully expect them to trade up and/or down with those two picks. I mentioned the draft because over the years the end of the 1st usually has O linemen left at the top of the board. And then the early 1st round pick may get them a stud OT. Use all that cap space on the defensive side of the ball, maybe a WR. Don't get me wrong, just a version of how I could see it all shaking out. There will be lots of twists and turns, and you get the best players you can however you can get them.
