  1. Pay schedule has changed multiple times. Benefits have changed twice. I have to work during the summer since I dont get paid a lot. I also have to take classes and training over the summer, but yea, you nailed it. These are the types of responses that I hear often and why the profession is looked down upon. I don't look down on the profession, I look down at most of the teachers. Which is a shame, because I have a ton of respect for the really good ones. Yes, pay and benefits may have been tweaked a little but by and large you knew what you were getting when you started. So the claim of "I have to work summer because I don't get paid a lot" is exactly the type of whining I'm talking about. "Welcome to the real world" is exactly right. Every other position people work full time all year AND take continuing education courses that are required. (And rarely have any pension at all.)
  2. My wife is a teacher, has been in three different districts in her career. Also subbed for a few years in several other districts. I know exactly what I'm talking about. It's like a feeding frenzy, teachers getting each other worked up about everything and anything. Every job has challenges, but there's something about teachers that make them feel entitled. It just never stops. My wife was a big supporter of Act 10, and got out of the union as soon as she could. Obviously, nobody talks to her at her school anymore but she's ok with that. It is telling how childish teachers can be though. I get it though, from day one a new teacher is exposed to this toxic environment, and it's just embedded in the system.
  3. This is why "TOR" starters don't fit the Brewers plan, they are the most over-priced assets in all of MLB. Starting pitchers in general, actually. Exceptions of course, but as Free Agents they are over-priced. Why? Because teams feel the need to get that old school 7 innings from them every start, ignoring how the vast majority of them really suffer the 3rd time through a line-up. Now, if you stumble into a guy like Burnes who CAN do that, great. Even in his arby years he would be cost-effective. But going out and getting a SP in FA for multiple years and massive salary is a really bad idea.
  4. Political Forum would be the appropriate place for teachers to voice concerns about their massive pensions, pay schedule they knew going in, months of time off, and complete job security.
  5. Having an option left is basically being glossed over, but shouldn't be. The way the Brewers use the pitching staff, the more players with option the better. When they hit those stretches where the bullpen is burned out, Claudio is yet another guy that can be shuttled down if/when necessary. As far as his stuff, yea, we all like guys throwing 98 coming out of the pen. But I don't mind having one or two guys with a great change-up, it's a change of pace. MLB hitters can't hit a good change-up, it's why 56 year old KRod was a really good closer just a few years ago. Most of all though, this must mean Hader moves into the starting rotation.
  6. I feel bad for Alex Claudio. He's about to be the new whipping boy in the IGT, and he has no idea it's coming.
  7. So you want 5 NY area teams? My argument against that is current media contracts probably wouldn't allow it. Number two, even in NY they wouldn't support 5 MLB teams. If you're currently a Yankees or Mets fan, why would you suddenly become a Manhattan Rays fan or Brooklyn Marlins fan? I question Portland also. Not a huge market, young demo, and competing against NBA and MLS- which is extremely popular there. Just a wild guess, but I would think Vegas, Charlotte, Indy, Nashville, maybe even Rochester would be better choices. Tampa and Miami both need to go, but I'm sure MLB wants at least one team in FL no matter what.
  8. Already have a younger, better version in Dubon. That said, I'm open to looking at any options for a LH bat. Yelich and Shaw, that's it. So it would help if the UT was LH, not sure if that's a good enough reason to select Schrock.
  9. If ever a team needed Coach Cooper...
  10. Makes me think he doesn't feel he has a definite need. He's a GM, which means believe the opposite of most things he says. We see this over and over again. Last year, the last thing anyone thought Stearns would do last season is get an OF. He got two. Does he need a 2B? Of course, right now Perez or Shaw would be the starting 2B. They have had discussions internally about Hiura, and we simply don't know what the plan is. But for all we know the plan is to start him from day one. Maybe use a filler until his Super 2 is passed. We also know they're very high on Dubon. No, Stearns is all about value. And I will not be shocked if the biggest move me makes this off-season is for another OF. I don't know who that will be, but he'll be LH. Maybe Brantley. Perfect fit for this team.
  11. We'll know a lot more after this weekend. Packers obviously need to beat the Bears, and hopefully Vikes lose to the Dolphins. Very tough to see that happening, but if it does now we're down to Packers beating Jets/Lions and the Vikes losing 1/2. Seems much more doable at that point. (I'm assuming Redskins, Panthers, Eagles all lose a game. That seems like almost a given.)
  12. It's not admitting to a mistake. He made a decision at the time that made sense, but things change and he wouldn't hesitate to trade for him if it made sense today. (Which it really doesn't anyhow.)
  13. Plus, all GMs have egos. Even Stearns, even though he's been better than most when it comes to admitting his mistakes. Going out and trading something of value to get Gennett back would be some pretty big egg on the face for a guy who gave him away for nothing 1 1/2 years ago. I understood the move to get rid of Gennett at the time, but it has turned into some pretty crap irony that his bat since then is exactly the type of bat that may have put them over the top. Completely disagree. I don't believe for a second Stearns would let that sway him at all- period. He is a very logical guy, and understands you can't make decisions based on what you did yesterday. That said, I agree with all the other reasons mentioned by everybody why this move is extremely unlikely.
  14. I've heard opposing players are clowning on them, asking "Do you want fries with that? They do look like a bad take on McDonalds uniforms. As for Wilson, the least he could od is build up his body over the last couple years. He can shoot, and obviously has some athleticism. But that's about it. Horrible on defense and on the boards, and just sort of drifts around on offense. I was talking to my son about the Bucks last night, and he posed an interesting question. Middleton, Brogdon, Lopez, Bledsoe. Which one would hurt the most if lost for the season? Honestly, Middleton comes in last for me...maybe a toss-up between him and Brogdon. But sort of telling as far as the priority for signing these guys after the season.
  15. Of course he is. But he's not a catcher, he was an offensive lineman for the Bears in the 40s.
  16. Hard to argue with any of that. Great points. A number of friends that are fans of the queens or bears blame Rodgers broken collarbone for the crackdown on roughing the passer calls and the mild rule changes...yet it seems we have been generally screwed over on the majority of these types of calls this year. I personally am a bit more annoyed at what kind of (expletive) would cheap shot a sliding qb like that...regardless of whether it is technically legal or not. The ESPN segment "Jacked up" was pulled off the air for a reason, that isn't how football is played anymore. If I had my way, I'd try filtering thugs like that Falcons player(and the guy who celebrated his dirty hit) out of the game before I'd worry about incidents like the Kareem Hunt. Wait....what??? I would worry about Kareem Hunt before anything that happens on the field. Players choose to get paid to play a violent sport. Women don't choose to get smashed in the face.
  17. It's not a matter of whether we think it "should" be a penalty. I'm not sure myself if that type of play should be a penalty or not. But that's not the point. According to the rules, and how they're calling it this year, that WAS a penalty. I'll say again, please take the too early/too late out of it. That's also not the point. He led with his helmet, drove into Rodgers with it. That is a penalty. In fact, a just such a penalty was called against Atlanta later in the game. It's just ironic that QBs are the primary reason all these rules exist, and Rodgers got hit illegally twice without any calls. Both in the open field where it was easy to see.
  18. Taylor's biggest hurdle is being RH. Braun, Santana, Broxton already all RH. Plus, Dubon and/or Hiura likely to be called up at some point, two more RH. Along with likely both catchers, Aguilar, Cain, Arcia, Perez. Really believe via trades and FA they are going to try hard to find a LF for the 4th OF spot.
  19. If we're talking MLB ready players, what about Aguilar as the headliner?
  20. Yes, that part was fine. But you still can't lead with your helmet, which he did.
  21. Whoever made the call on the first Julio Jones catch should be fired today. What I haven't heard much about though, two fouls on Rodgers that weren't called. First, his helmet was grabbed and twisted. Technically not facemask, but I'm 90% sure you can't grab a player by the helmet opening- it's basically the same thing as facemask. Then, on a scramble a player comes and nails him leading with his helmet. As announces said, I don't think it was late but he did lead with his head. They kept saying shoulder, but it was clearly helmet. That's even how it looked live. I get officials are human, but every week there's more than one huge mistake- even when they review.
  22. Doesn't someone here have a signature along the line of "David Stearns doesn't panic like you do" ? Seems to sum it up. If you expect the Brewers to spend as much money as the Cubs and Dodgers can and do, you will always be disappointed.
  23. I think it's fair for fans to speculate about a Middleton trade. He's a FA after this season, and apparently expecting a max contract. Bucks can't and shouldn't offer that. Then he gets benched, now he misses a game for some vague reason. Wall doesn't make much sense, but anything is possible I guess. Beal would be great. But there's plenty of others that would make sense, should be interesting. Am I crazy, or could this year be the best chance the Bucks have to win it all? Doesn't seem to be a dominant Warriors team this year, Toronto has been playing great though. Thing is, how can they possibly replace Middleton, Bledsoe, Brogdon, Lopez with similar talent and cap number the next couple seasons? Just seems like this may be the best they're going to be for the next few years.
  24. You've said similar things before, and I don't understand it. You don't think fans of lots other franchises in various sports expect to win? That's ONLY Packer fans? Seems like a bit of a strawman argument. I think the vast majority of Packer fans DID expect this team to make it to more than one SB over this long TT/MM era. I think that was a reasonable expectation. Losing multiple times at home in the playoffs and blowing the game at Seattle lands on the HC. Is he 100% responsible? Of course not. But you also can't say he doesn't deserve any of the blame. Packer fans are no different than any other fans. A coach becomes unpopular, everyone piles on. As I said earlier, I agree there's no need to be gleeful about it either. But some fans that wanted him gone are openly gloating about it, and that's fine with me too. It is a sport, and fans are allowed to get excited about these things. I don't feel sorry for MM. The man has a SB ring, a street named after him, millions of dollars, and will coach again. I said only Packers fans in WI. Not only Packers fans. The Packers following has more in common with the St. Louis Cardinals than a lot of us would like to admit, and yes many of them do strike me as extremely entitled. One too many of them have taken the "we own the team!" stuff a tad close to the heart. McCarthy worked his rear off and ran his course. He gave the franchise his best for 13 years, that's what the fans deserved. He worked hard? Super. Everyone works hard. With all the talent they had and Rodgers in his prime, they should have had been in the big dance more than once. Deserves got nothing to do with it. I do agree the fans who use the "Im an Owner" thing is both funny yet irritating.
  25. Extremely small sample size. Isn't that telling in and of itself? Probably dozens of guys that were qualified for NFL jobs over the past couple of decades, and there aren't many that got an NFL calling. Is it because NFL GMs don't think the game translates well between those levels? It really is the guys like Carroll who cut their teeth in the NFL, have success in the NCAA, then come back and have some NFL success. The guys with the 'innovative college offenses' haven't jumped well, historically. Good points. NFL is evolving though, offenses are starting to look more like Texas Tech. 20 something GMs in MLB was unthinkable not that long ago. All Im saying is you need to be open to it, dont limit your options just because it hasnt been done.
