  1. Well yeah turnovers are the biggest factor in determining wins and losses. And since there was only one in the game it gave NE a huge advantage. Yea, as the game turned out it certainly was the turning point, but it didn't HAVE to play out that way. They just needed a big play to respond to that, and they couldn't come up with one. It was still 17-17 and the Pats had it relatively deep in their own territory. At that point the game was far from over, or at least it shouldn't have been. They simply have no ability to play 4 full quarters of football. So Jones is the excuse, but they gave up 14 points after that and couldn't come close to scoring themselves after that. MM just looks and sounds defeated, not the same person who was always confident, even defiant in the face of adversity. Maybe it's just me, but he just looks like he's punching the clock every week and knows he's done at the end of the season.
  2. It is actually possible for both to be true. Players made bone-headed mistakes, AND the refs were "wrong" in my opinion. (Whitehead, and roughing the punter.) I've never seen an ejection for something that minor, and by rule it was not roughing the punter. So yes, the refs blew those calls, and the players were at fault for putting the refs inposition to make those bad calls.
  3. Giannis has always said he's loyal and wants to stay with the Bucks for his entire career. Athletes say that all the time, but Giannis is a very genuine person. He has already extended his contract once instead of becoming a FA. Yea, the lure of NY, LA, etc. doesn't mean anything to him. If they get terrible, sure I could see him looking around. Especially if he can be part of a "big 3" somewhere and has reason to believe the Bucks are regressing. That's a long shot though, because with him around it will be tough for the Bucks to be a bad team.
  4. No doubt. It's not easy being a superior athlete, we need constant fine tuning.
  5. Right, but that's the bias of hearing 99% of fan talk coming from Packers fans. If you listened to Vikings or Bears fans that often, you would come away with a much different opinion, believe me. Like you said, impossible to prove one way or another. No doubt the Packers fan base is full of really bad hot takes. That comes with the territory with any fan base. But Packers fans in general at least know more 3 players, they know some history of the team, general concepts of offense/defense, etc. So you may not think Packer fans are smart, until you compare them to the fans for every other NFL team. I'm grading on a curve ; )
  6. My take-away from the Celtics game is the Bucks adjustments will be easier than the Celtics. They have no answer for Giannis in the paint. Bucks didn't move the ball very well, didn't hit enough 3s and still could have won that game. On defense, Coach Bud can make the adjustment and make sure Irving doesn't get all these open 3s. Even if that means come playoff time having Divencenzo guard him- because he actually did ok defending Irving.
  7. Jordy Nelson was legitimately one of the 10 best WRs in the game for a few years, and was a good guy both on and off the field. He was a shell of his former self last year, though. Yet, when they released him, I thought there was going to be thousands of mid-30s housewives showing up at 1265 Lombardi Ave. with flaming torches and pitchforks. I know every team has fans who are idiots, but it just seems that the Packers have an inordinate amount. The good teams know when it's time to let a player go, and Thompson was guilty many times of hanging onto guys a season or two too long. I like what I'm seeing from Gute in that regard so far. Completely disagree. Packer fans as a whole are smarter in general about football. Most don't understand or want to understand how the cap works though, which is no different than fans of any sports franchise. So they see Jordy getting cut loose, and many can't put it in context with the cap. Again, I don't think it makes them idiots.
  8. It is a rational explanation, but definitely not the only one. Many other possibilities have been mentioned in the thread, most of which are equally rational. Everyone is replaceable, that includes CC and Stearns. In fact, Stearns is very young and will likely want another challenge in the near future. I'm not saying I want to lose him, but the world goes on.
  9. 1) DJ wanted out for reasons we can only speculate about. 2) He wasn't as irreplaceable as we think he is, at least in Stearns opinion. 3) Stearns bungled this and lost him. At least one of these things are true. My guess is #2. Ricky raised a good question earlier. DJ may not like how the pitching staff is used. Lots of baseball didnt, even though it worked. Maybe he didnt like being in the middle explaining to starters why they only got 2 innings, or were kicked to the side altogether. All speculation, but I dont believe its just money. If he wanted to be here, and Stearns wanted him he would still be here.
  10. Bill Schroeder was hated by Packer fans for the most part. The rest, yea pretty accurate. I don't see why anyone would be calling for krumeroy now, WR hasn't been a problem at all with some of the young guys stepping up and doing well. It's come up because he's eligible to return. And to be honest, if the decision was based on performance then Kumerow would be added, Moore cut. But that's not going to happen since Moore was a high draft pick this year.
  11. Randy Wright. Boom! I don't think any of those guys you listed were loved by most fans, other than Kuhn- who was a very good FB in his prime.
  12. I'm one of those idiots. Well, I don't have Twitter so I'm not technically one I guess. Kumerow looked really good to me, although I don't get how white has anything to do with it. Donald Driver was the most cherished WR ever by Packer fans. And returning kicks is dead in the NFL, they don't need anyone to do that. Only problem is there's really not a spot for him in the WR core at the moment.
  13. When will the Marlins want MLB ready players? I mean, they could get a couple top 100 prospects and change, but will they ever have any fans? Brewers rebuilt quickly with guys like Shaw, Pina, Anderson, Davies, etc. Not world beaters, but provided a foundation to grow from. Why wouldn't the Marlins want to go that route? Brewers could trade some combination of players from a group of Aguilar, Thames, Pina, Nottingham, Santana, Broxton, Anderson, Davies, Guerra, Knebel, Jeffress, etc. Probably left out a couple. It's not sexy, and that's the problem. But they need to walk before they run, and adding a few of these guys would be a smart move for them. Yea, I know it's not happening though.
  14. Do we know how the Brewers' catching position compared to the NL average? Only reason I ask, C position may not be as bad as we think it is. As of today, I would roll with Pina/ Nottingham, with a vet or two in AAA for insurance.
  15. You posted a link with your own Brewers prediction? Really?
  16. I wouldn't take credit just yet for your prediction after 7 games. As frustrating as they've been, they have been getting better as the season has gone on. Dealing with Rodgers bad wheels for a couple games there too. Division is still up for grabs. As we all know by now, you just need to get to the playoffs. Record doesn't matter, losses in September don't matter. The teams playing good football and relatively healthy can do a lot of damage, even win it all. I'm not predicting that, but way too early to declare "I was right that they were going to suck." I wasn't real optimistic about this season either, no idea if I ever posted that or not because what does it matter? What I have said in the past is I have no faith in MM and don't think he can ever win another SB here. But I'm open minded enough to realize it's still possible, even this season. If the defense can play at the level they did vs the Rams, they are a contender again.
  17. That has sort of been debunked. Reporter asked if it had anything to do with his contract situation, and he winked. Not saying he didn't have a family matter, but may/ may not have been the "real" reason he was late.
  18. It was guaranteed they weren't re-signing him because they weren't about to give him any sort of significant amount of money/ cap space. He is a very unusual player. There are spurts within a game where he looks like an All-Pro. But then vast amounts of downs where is in invisible. He obviously wanted an extension, and was late to mini-camp (or was it regular training camp?) to prove that point. Just no way are the Packers going to commit to someone like that, and I can't blame them. With Rodgers huge contract you just need to be very careful who else gets sizable deals. Someone will take a shot and throw a bunch of money at him, glad it's not the Packers.
  19. Coach Bud getting a lot of love, and rightly so. But we need to give Horst some props too. DiVincenzo was a great pick at that point in the draft, got mixed reviews on the pick. Irsan was a great signing. Lopez, another great signing. Lots of naysayers on that one. Connaughton. Under the radar signing that looks to be another win. Another guard, like DiVo who can rebound (and score) and is more athletic than I thought. So far so good, next moves will be tougher decisions. What to do (if anything) with Bledsoe, extend Middleton?, I think Brogdon will be a FA, what changes does he make this season, etc. At least I have more confidence in the decision making these days.
  20. Doesn't matter, even if some of that is true. I have wanted MM gone probably longer than you have, but none of what you have written has anything to do with making a bone-headed play when the game is on the line. Even if he didn't fumble, it was still a horrible decision- especially if he was specifically told to kneel down. So no, I don't have any empathy for him. In fact, these hybrid players are all the rage in the NFL today, so the Packers did him a favor. Problem is, he's just not explosive enough.
  21. If it was a couple years ago, I would agree. But the salary level they're at now, I just see very little chance they pay Schoop $10MM or Moose $15MM.
  22. Memo to Bucks fans: Please stop with the "MVP" chants, it makes us look ridiculous.
  23. Tunnell is surprising. Coles seems like a case of "about time to try a new voice." Dan Wright? Who knows, sports medicine, training programs for pitchers, etc is changing rapidly with lots of different approaches. Could be the doctors the Brewers use suggested someone, etc. Back to Tunnell, really have to wonder if its something personal, not directly related to job performance. I generally like the concept of continuing to shake things up with coaching staffs in pro sports, so as usual Ill trust Stearns since we dont even have half a clue what these coaches do, how the do it, if they get along, etc.
  24. Yea, I think that happened right before my time here. All I can say, Coach Cooper would never stand for the players' dads getting involved with his team.
