  1. There is no controversy, other than it doesn't look right to some old timers. It is beyond proven that it works, either hitters can adjust or not. I'm an old codger in a lot of ways. I hate the DH, I think Pete Rose should never see the HOF, and I think there's still a time and place to plunk someone. Don't get me started on instant replay. But things like defensive shifts, using the pitching staff in different ways...things like that have always been within the rules- it's just that now teams are finally taking more advantage of it.
  2. This is how I feel. We have always tried to balance "enjoy it while you're young" with save enough for retirement. There's no right or wrong way, and I'm not complaining that I will work until I'm 65/67. We enjoy going out, enjoy vacations (often times expensive), concerts, sporting events, etc. No regrets.
  3. Reading the full quote it sounds like that is their plan. Sounds like he is going to report to ST like normal and isn't doing something special this winter. If he has issues in ST...then yah, get worried. I am not too concerned. Strength training all winter and no pitching should pretty much make him good to go. He seemed like he was pretty much there at the end of the season, but now there is no point to keep making him rehab...just let him rest now. Could he be rusty come ST and need to go slow? Maybe, but I don't imagine major problems. Personally I am betting he is in the bullpen come the start of 2019 (or whenever he officially starts playing). Just a guess. If he ever pitches effectively again in any role, ever, I will be pleasantly surprised.
  4. The only comment that got my attention was the comment about Nelson. Nothing even promising like "We hope to have him ready for ST." Just a general "we have no timeline" which doesn't sounds very good at all.
  5. I don't think Stearns will be actively trying to trade any of these guys. But if someone offers a deal that values one of them more than he does, sure he'll do that deal. You know, it's interesting to me that rebuilding teams don't take advantage of these types of players. Davies, Anderson, Guerra, Santana, Broxton, etc. They always want younger talent, but as Stearns has proven you can really speed up the rebuild by adding MLB ready players to the mix. Players like this don't cost too much in terms of prospects or money, yet they rather have a couple A ball studs.
  6. Haven't been to a game yet, but the Forum sure sounds quiet. The BC was as well, so I don't know why I'm surprised. I just figured the new arena would bring more juice. Maybe Yelich needs to tell Bucks fans to get loud too?
  7. Wow, shocked he has no options remaining. Pretty simple, either he's traded alone/package or he's in camp competing for a spot.
  8. Only one explanation. Stupid Counsel.
  9. 67 is my goal. Although I hope to start throttling down at 62. Man, teaching has its challenges as all jobs do, but being able to retire that young with a pension is pretty sweet.
  10. Don't rule out Stearns acquiring another OF. He has always shown he will sign just about anyone, regardless of position, to improve the roster. If that means he's able o sign or trade for an OF, they'll make it work. Just like last season, with all the fear of where will everyone play in the OF/1B it worked out. Also, part of me wants to just roll the dice with Dubon at 2B if he looks ready in ST. I rather see him than the laundry list of Saladino/Sogard types. If Dubon can hit MLB pitching even decently, he can slide right over to UT eventually when Hiura comes up.
  11. Thats CS though. He took more walks earlier in his career. When youre getting enough meatballs to hit .350 why try to work a walk? If I remember right, his k rate has always been low too. Ideally he could be UT, but he needs regular abs.
  12. Barring another injury, Dubon will be in Milwaukee at some point next season. Everything is there except for the power, and he even showed improvement in that area. (Although that could be the CS effect.) I think it depends on Arcia. They cant afford to have two middle IFs trying to find themselves at the plate at the same time.
  13. Stearns said something very similar about Moose. Theres a chance he'll be back, but no way Schoop will be.
  14. 100% agreement. We have never had a player with this level of punkiness on our roster before. Hope we never do.
  15. Henson played 4 total games and 86 total minutes over the last two playoff series (just 12 minutes 2 years ago and 74 last year). I don't know what you're remembering, but it's not John Henson. I was remembering the Bulls and Celtics series. Wow, time flies that was 4 years ago.
  16. We're making the mistake of thinking of starters the traditional way. What we could very well see is a continued expansion of the "out getters" approach. "Start" Chacin, Anderson, Davies, maybe Gio..Nelson...who knows. Then in the "pen" Hader, Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta, Guerra. All guys capable of pitching multiple innings. If the starter has a lead after 4-5 innings, you can go to Hader/Burnes and win that game. Still have Knebel/ Jeffress to "close." If you're losing, go to Guerra. In theory, Hader, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta would get almost as many innings as they would being a starter, but used in games they're more likely to win. I don't know if Stearns will take it that far, but I assure you they are looking at how to maximize these very talented young arms. They all need work with their off-speed pitches. Very often their curve or change is little more than a "get me over" pitch. It's all a work in progress. They all have 4-5 years of control left, so there's time to develop them into more traditional starters. Until then, we'll see what Stearns comes up with in his pitching lab.
  17. Speaking of invisible, looks like Maker isn't part of the rotation. I get it, with Lopez and Irsan coming in there's only so many minutes to go around. They're going with Wood for now to pick up some minutes. It's a long season, guessing Maker will get his chance. Just goes to show that the roster is deeper this year when guys like Maker, Brown, and Delly can't find minutes.
  18. That's what makes Bledsoe attractive, there are always teams who want/need an expiring contract. As for Henson, you can't just look at points and rebounds. If you watched the last two playoff series you'll know he played very, very well and was a defensive presence. Yes, he can get pushed around by huge centers, no question. But I never said he was Shaq, just that I think his contract is fine for what he gives you. I keep hearing Snell is a 3/D guy but I really watch him play sometimes and he's not all that great defensively. And he was deer in the headlights in the playoffs shooting the 3. That's not on Kidd, he had wide open looks in the corner and missed horribly over and over again. Snell does nothing better than everyone else on the bench, and most of it worse.
  19. They throw fastballs 118% of the time, not sure you need to steal signs.
  20. Very hard for fans like us to accept, but oh so true. We want to constantly fix things after a small sample. The real answer is what people dont want to hear. Yelich and Cain carried the offense all year and all you can do is hope they get hot. As you said, that can happen in a day. Braun plays, Moose plays. Perez or Shaw vs LH starter, at this point Im fine either way. Really the only change I would even consider is what I mentioned a couple days ago. Santana in RF, Braun to 1B.
  21. You trade your 3rd best player if you can get a different 3rd best player who is a better fit. What's the problem with Henson's contact? Come playoff time, he's been one of the best players on the court for the Bucks. Do you mean Delly and Snell?
  22. This is my feeling exactly. It almost seems like they are tired. Dodgers must be more tired then, since they struck out even more those past 2 games.
  23. No love for our 1-0 Bucks? Man they looked great for most of the 1st half. As Giannis said, they really need to learn to stomp on some of these teams when they build a lead. Offense went back to 2017 in the 2nd half. Hot takes: Giannis has to stop forcing things all the time. I honestly believe this team is better when he scores 20-22 and makes everyone else better. Snell has no reason to ever be on the floor. Great having Irsan back to do the dirty work and hit a couple 3s. Really hope they can trade Bledsoe. Divenz.....the rookie looked good. Can knock down 3s and plays all out on defense. Rotations should be interesting, would like to see more Brown and Wood but not sure where those minutes come from.
  24. Those two things don't add up. I agree this is a bad team, but they need more than one good draft class. They also need goo FA signings next year, and hope a couple current young players turn into studs. All that can happen, in the NFL these days a team can take massive steps forward or back in a year. I have zero faith though as long as McCarthy is still around.
