  1. Actually I will pounce on your Parra statement. While I agree that he shows promise and has value, to state that has far more value to the franchise than anything he'd net in return is way too strong. If we were told the Brewers could get Buerhle by including Parra in the deal, they'd be all over it.
  2. I'd just as soon treat Braun and YoGa as our mid season acquisitions and get up and go.
  3. Darn Brian that's what I was going to say. I heard DM one time say that any minor leaguer is actually treated as a liability. They're investing $$ and getting no return. Anytime you trade a liabilty for an asset it must be considered as a viable trade. There should be no minor leaguer considered untouchable, no matter the perceived upside of the minor leaguer. For every John Smoltz and Jeff Bagwell we read about, there are dozens even hundreds of minor league guys that never panned out.
  4. Ladies and Gentlemen, your undefeated Arizona Brewers! Atta boy SS Miguel Vasques. BFN better run out and get a profile on Miguel in a hurry, so we can place him in directly into (knee jerk reaction) prospect status. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Sarfate with 4 walks to take the loss. Jeepers, doesn't he know how hard we are all rooting for him?
  6. What Brian said. On the other hand, West Viginia held out on the Brewers and made them sweat while they looked for a better offer this last re-up.
  7. That seems like it may be the plan. Now it remains to be seen if LaPorta will cooperate by playing well. You never know until they get there. It would be even better if Gwynn, Cain, Ford, Gillespie, Brantley or Fermaint (et al) would gunk things up a bit by developing into something special.
  8. This is just so great a learning process for Inman. He's throwing the ball well and learning what it will take to really be an effective pro. The jump to AA is usually he acid test and even though his first couple of outings won't show a "W", it looks like he's going to be more than fine.
  9. Keep 'em all as long as we can. You can never have enough pitching. Our everyday line up seems to be more than above average for the forseeable future, so no pressing need to go looking for an upgrade there. Just because we may have supposed surplus in the area, does not mean we have to trade. If there is any surplus from which to trade, it should be the prospects starting to bunch up in the minors. Let someone else take the chance that a prospect might pan out or not for a while.
  10. I think I'm the only person who did not get excited about Gillespie tearing up a bunch of HS kids last year. I thought his promotion to BC was premature and now going to Huntsville would be absolutely crazy. It seemed to me that they valued Ford more as a prospect by letting him stay in WV an extra 1/2 yr to get his game together at Gillespie's expense. If they value Gillespie as a prospect he will stay at BC and not be shoved up the ladder again.
  11. Head Football Coach Terry Hoepner dies from brain cancer. That's just too wrong. Thoughts and prayers to his family. He was just starting to make an impact there when he got sick last year. Sad, sad news. A loss to Indiana, the Big Ten and college football. He was a real good footbal coach.
  12. I also listen to Helena all the time. The time difference always seems to allow us to listen to the entire game. The announcer is real informed and entertaining. Can't wait until they get rolling.
  13. Brewers are 11-3 in games Vargas starts. I know some of his other peripheral stats are shaky, but this stat says alot to me. edit: add link
  14. Just for the record, I'm the only person who squeaked when Wendte did not even get a sniff on the Power 50. Seems his being 24 in A ball eliminates him from consideration. I don't necessarily disagree. But the boy has strung together a season, no matter his age, he's got results.
  15. I was thinking te same thing, but I wonder if Salome only playing part of the year due to injury may just signal all catchers move up after the season. Especially with Angel being only 21. Even if his bat stays hot, there's still a lot to learn about honing his craft behind the dish.
  16. The episode with Daniel Radcliffe(Harry Potter) playing himself as a horny teenager(flicking a condom accidentally into Dianna Rigg's hair) was hilarious.
  17. Help me out here. - LaPorta and Gillespie are the same college class. - LaPorta goes back as a senior because of injury and raises his stock to the # 7 pick in the 2007 draft. - Gillespie(even though he is college player of the year) is a 3rd round pick last year (#92), and spends that same year in the minors, tears it up against high school kids in Helena for a half a year and is very average in A+ so far this year. - Therefore it is logical to assume that Gillespie is a solid prospect for 2009 and LaPorta is questionable for 2009. I do not understand the logic involved in reaching that conclusion. Please explain further, as I believe JohnBriggs is correct.
  18. I vote for 2003/2004. There had been such a dry spell for sooooooooooooooooo long that the idea that we actually had legitimate players on the come was really exciting. I took my kid to college in NC in 2003, but we had to stop in Huntsville for a game to see Hart (play 3rd), Hardy, Krynzel, Adams and Nelson. It was very cool.
  19. He better be shooting 1,000 jump shots a day, if he's truly serious about being a pro. Otherwise he will need to learn Turkish so he can play pro ball with "Bucks Rockie" Rashard Griffith.
  20. I think I stared at those standings with all the Brewers' farm teams in 1st place for a half hour and never blinked, except to wipe away a tear of joy..... or 2. All 3 in the playoffs? C'mon Helena and keep 'er going Nashville!
  21. 2 walks and an HBP by Gulin lead to a run on a SF for Birmingham. So Brendin Katin decides to tie it up with a jack. 1 - 1 in the 5th for Huntsville.
  22. Looks like Perez is now hitting the "wall". He started out hitting around.100, then knocked off the rust and really started to hit, getting almost to .230. Now he's back under the Mendoza line as of today. Paying the price of inactivity over the past 2 years. Still, he's in AA, and next year may be the real indicator of any actual chance to make it.
  23. I think we all know people who are cocky as all get out, who are legends in their own mind, and not worth a rip.
  24. Stars win!! Captain Lou ingnites the rally. Carlos Corporan with game winning RBI.
  25. Gotta be cocky to be good. Such a fine line between supreme confidence and cocky. I always give the guy the benefit of the doubt, unless a pattern of bad behavior develops. It is so hard to be good in this game, gotta cut 'em some slack. In fact it looks to me that Braun has settled down a bit as he gets more comfortable.
